From the Gusto insert of the Buffalo News: - NIGHTLIFE - Around and About "The next Goo Goo Dolls single will be "Broadway." The song details Johnny Rzeznik's feelings about drinking in a bar on Broadway and Scene think it's one of the best tracks of the Goos' career. Looks like the Goos might play a local gig in early September..."
In the UK, Iris is still number 43, it's no 9 in the nme charts and in the HMV charts dizzy up the girl is 35th!! (Thanks, Andrew!)

The Goo's were voted best local rock band of Buffalo in ARTVOICE -- here`s the article:
ARTVOICE--7/15-21/99 -Best Of Buffalo--(Reader`s poll winners) Best Local Rock Band Goo Goo Dolls Though they garnered the most votes, the Goos are hardly local anymore. They belong to the world these days and reside more on MTV than at the Continental. Nevertheless Robby and Johnny still hold a place in the hearts of their hometown fans who names the Goo Goo Dolls the Best Local Rock Band. Sending one of our own out into the world and then to have them come back certified superstars says something about our good tast and judgement don`t ya think? Even if they don`t play much around their hometown anymore they stiil belong to us.(Thanks, Jessica!)
Added Olga and Adam to the Goo Fans Photo Album!
I'm the volunteer VP of Development of an organization with the name of
Rock and Wrap It Up! I've been doing this for 5 years. Our website may be
seen at

volunteer)
When I'd met the Goos in Myrtle Beach, I asked each of them if they would
be willing to sign some certificates for us. The certificates recognize
students (elementary/junior high/high school) for actively fighting hunger
in their community by working with their school cafeterias to get edible,
not-purchased food to local homeless shelters. John, Rob and Mike were all
enthusiastic and have since then signed 150 of them. When we find out that
that the Goo Goo dolls are a students favorite band, we provide them with a
personalized, signed certificate from that artist. You can imagine that
the Goos are in demand.
In addition, they have signed on with us to have all their leftover,
backstage catered food wrapped up and brought to a local homeless shelter
in every city that they play.
For your info, anywhere from 20 - 75, 100 lbs. of food can be gleaned from
shows. Soup kitchens make one meal with 3 lbs of food. (Not a large meal,
I know, but when someone goes to a soup kitchen and sometimes even has
children with them, they are grateful). When required, we work with
national and local food gleaners throughout the country. We deal mostly in
perishable foods.
Take care and as usual, thanks for the unbelievably informative website!
You're awesome!

On the Behind the Music topic, MTV/VH-1 has asked me to post a call for fan input on the show. Debby Whalen is producing the show, and a huge part of making the show great is incorporating things from the fans. They are looking for magazines, memorabilia, footage, and especially PHOTOS (the older the better). The way to get in touch with Debby is via email at [email protected]. Serious, topical responses only.
For immediate release July 8,1999 GOO GOO DOLLS' DIZZY UP THE GIRL CLIMBS UP CHARTS AS BAND READIES FOR SUMMER TOUR; SHOWS WILL INCLUDE SPECIAL FILM BY BILL BARMINSKI. Dizzy Up the Girl, the double-platinum album from the Goo Goo Dolls has climbed sixteen spots in the past two weeks on the Billboard Top 200 chart, from 82 to 66*!! The band's third single, "Black Balloon," is tops in radio adds around the country, while "Slide" (on Billboard's Hot 100 Singles chart for forty two weeks) is now at No.29. The Goo Goo Dolls are just back from a successful European tour and have begun rehearsals for their headline USA Summer tour which features special guests Sugar Ray and Fastball. The tour kicks off July 16th in Phoenix, Arizona. Goo's band members John Rzeznik (guitar), Robby Takac (bass) and Mike Malinin (drums) will be joined onstage by guitarist Nathan December and keyboardist David Schulz. The Goo Goo Dolls have enlisted renowned artist Bill Barminski to direct a short film to be shown during their live shows. Barminski, best known for his "Absolute Bar Min Ski" ad overlooking Sunset Blvd. and for directing the Baz Luhrmann video "Everybody's Free," will direct the five minute film which will consist of animation and stock footage. The working title is "Greed in Action." The Goo Goo Dolls hope to involve their fans in several pro-social efforts while on tour. First, the band will be distributing MTV's Fight for Your Rights: Take a Stand Against Violence CD/Action Guide at every show. The CD contains music with comments by popular recording artists on ways young people can reduce violence in their communities. In addition, representatives from PAX, the anti-gun violence organization, will be on hand to gather signatures for the PAX Youth Petition and to sell a special Goo Goo Dolls T-shirt. All proceeds will go directly to their effort to end gun violence. As with the band's Spring tour, the Goo Goo Dolls are asking fans to bring non-perishable foods to the concerts to be distributed to the needy. U.S.A. Harvest, the nation's largest food delivery organization, will pick up the food and deliver it to local shelters in each community. During the Spring tour, fans donated over 30 tons of food, an amount equal to 130,000 meals! The Goo Goo Dolls have several upcoming television appearances, including a performance of "Black Balloon" on the Tonight Show with Jay Leno on Friday, July 9th. Scheduled to debut on July 14th and airing several times in July, the group will be the subject of MTV's Fanatic series, where a lucky fan meets and interviews their favorite band. The show was taped in Las Vegas earlier this year. Lead singer/guitarist John Rzeznik was recently the subject of MTV's BIOrhythm series which gave viewers an in depth look into his life. The Goo Goo Dolls have had three No. 1 singles in a row: "Name" from their 1995 album A Boy Named Goo and "Iris" and "Slide" from Dizzy Up the Girl. "Iris," originally recorded for the multi-platinum City of Angels soundtrack garnered three GRAMMY nominations for the band this past February. "Iris" was recently honored at the BMI Awards as 1998's "Most Performed Song from a Film," and according to the music trade publication, Airplay Monitor, it was the most played song of 1998. Tour dates are attached. For information on U.S.A.
