SUMMER TOUR BACKSTAGE PASS:: GOO GOO DOLLS "I used a Marshall amplifier for a pillow," says John Rzeznik, lead singer of the Goo Goo Dolls. Before they were famous, Rzeznik, bassist Robby Takac, drummer Mike Malinin would camp out in the richety old van wiht all of their equipment when they travled. Now life's a lot more cushy for Rzeznik & Co., thanks to the triumphant success of tehir double-platinum CD, Dizzy Up The Girl, plus their three Grammy nominations. Yet they're still loggin in plenty of raod time. After a spring tour across the country with the New Radicals and Fastball, the Goo Goo Dolls are bound for Europe. Sugar Ray and Fastball will join the band when they return to the United States on July 16 for a 21-city tour that ends on September 1. No matter which side of the Alantic you're on, you should be able to catch the Goo Goo Dolls in concert. "It's such a thrill to preform live," says Rzeznik, for whom touring can still sometimes be a pain in the head. "You never know if you're going to get hit in the head wiht a bottle or a bra."
