Place Melkweg
Amsterdam, Holland

On Wednesday June 30th I went to see GGD in Amsterdam (The Netherlands) in a place called De Melkweg. De Melkweg is a venue that can hold about a thousand people and it was sold out.

Opening for GGD was Flight 16. They performed really great but the fun really started when GGD got on stage. Things turned crazy. The whole place was one big party.

When the lights were dimmed everybody was waiting anxiously but when the keyboard sound which preceded the show were joined by the guitars and the lights came back on revealing the band on stage everybody surged forward wanting to be as close to the stage as possible.

It was only a matter of minutes before the first diver chose to get on stage and dive back into the crowd. All through the performance this would go on with John uttering a "be careful" while singing. Halfway through some guy even climbed onto the stage by swinging from the ceiling and landing on one of the speakers. It was great. It was one big party.

The guys on stage were really enjoying themselves as well, some songs John even had to laugh while singing ^cause something happened on or offstage, like a guy diving from the stage crashing into the concrete ^cause nobody caught him. They played mostly new material from Dizzy Up The Girl, sometimes getting back to A Boy Named Goo, with just a couple of songs from before that. When Iris came on everybody sang along (It's actually the only song that ever made into the charts in The Netherlands.).

During "Broadway" a girlfriend of mine (Sabina) was thrown on stage by a couple of guys. She didn't quite know what to do when she was up there, so she decided "oh, what the hell" and went over to John and kissed him, with the crowd cheering. (She's still talking about it)

The concert ended with John an Robby playing together and John crashing his guitar into the ground.

All in all it was one of the best concerts I've ever seen. The songs were great, the performance was perfect and it was just one big party. Let's hope they will come back to The Netherlands in the (near!) future.
