Warner Bros. recording artists the Goo Goo Dolls are taping a segment of Sesame Street this week. The band will sing a rendition of their No.1 hit "Slide" accompanied by Muppet star of film and television, Elmo. With new lyrics, "Slide" becomes "Pride" and is aimed at the young viewers of Sesame Street and the various tasks they can feel proud of. An air date will be scheduled sometime after January 2000 when Sesame Street begins their 31st season on PBS.
In other millennium-related news, the Goo Goo Dolls will be ringing in the new year with a live performance at MTV's exclusive New Year's Eve Millennium Bash in New York's Times Square on December 31st. The band is also joining the music television for their "Fly 2K" promotion where winners will be picked up in several countries and flown in a private party plane to New York City for the Millennium Bash. The Goo Goo Dolls will fly with winners from a yet-to-be-named city, providing in-flight entertainment as they travel to New York. MTV viewers can enter the "Fly 2K" contest on November 29th when a special 800 number is revealed. Other performers involved in MTV's party plans are Bush, Blink 182, 98 Degrees and Christina Aguilera.
The Goo Goo Dolls are currently headlining MP3.com's Music and Technology tour in support of their double-plus platinum album Dizzy Up the Girl. The band will tour overseas military bases in December, including a stint on board the aircraft carrier, the USS John F. Kennedy.

For immediate release September 30, 1999 GOO GOO DOLLS TO PLAY FOR U.S. MILITARY OVERSEAS. "CHRISTMAS TOUR" INCLUDES PERFORMANCES ABOARD THE AIRCRAFT CARRIER U.S.S. JOHN F. KENNEDY AND TUZLA ARMY BASE IN BOSNIA. Warner Bros. recording artists the Goo Goo Dolls will perform at U.S. military installa- tions in Europe this December, playing to thousands of Army, Navy and Air Force personnel during a six date "Christmas Tour." The tour visits military bases in Spain, Italy and Germany and will include two very special performances by the band: one aboard the aircraft carrier USS John F. Kennedy (at an undisclosed site in the Mediterranean) and another at Tuzla Army Base in Bosnia. The group will be transported throughout the tour via military aircraft, helicopter, buses, and jeeps. Goo Goo Dolls' guitarist Johnny Rzeznik says "We've done shows for military personnel here in the States and they're always a great audience. This tour is especially important to us because we'll be performing for sailors, soldiers, airmen and women who can't be home for the holidays." The "Christmas Tour" is being presented by U. S. promoter Glenn Smith Presents. Tour dates are attached. After a year on the Billboard Top 200 album chart, the band's sixth album, Dizzy Up The Girl is still in the Top 50 (at 44 this week) and has sold almost 2.5 million copies. The latest single "Black Balloon" is 16* on Billboard's Hot 100 Singles chart. The group has two songs in the Top 10 on the Adult Top 40 chart: "Black Balloon" at 7* and "Slide" at 10. Before heading off to Europe, the Goo Goo Dolls will headline MP3.com's first Music and Technology Tour. The tour is scheduled to begin October 5th at the University of Iowa and will continue through mid-November. Band members Rzeznik, Robby Takac (bass) and Mike Malinin (drums) will be joined onstage by guitarist Nathan December and keyboardist David Schulz. The Music and Technology Tour will visit approximately 30 college campuses and will feature special guests, Tonic. Additionally, there will be performances by local bands whose work is available through MP3.com, as well as a village area with technology booths and downloadable music displays. Confirmed dates are attached and more dates will announced as they become available. In December, the Goo Goo Dolls return to their hometown of Buffalo, New York for three exciting performances at Shea's on December 1, 2 and 3. The first two shows sold out in record time and due to overwhelming demand, the third date goes on sale Saturday, October 2nd. As with previous tours this year, the Goo Goo Dolls are asking fans to bring canned and other non-perishable foods to their shows for people in need. USA Harvest volunteers will pick up the food and deliver it to local shelters and other social service agencies. In the past eight months, Goos' fans have donated enough food to feed over 300,000 people! The Goo Goo Dolls, VH-1's Artists of the Month for September, were highlighted on the channel throughout the month in videos, interviews and special programming. VH-1's "The Goo Goo Dolls: Behind the Music" premiered on September 5th and will be shown other times during the year. This popular series chronicles the band's career through a decade of endless touring and the personal hardships it took to achieve "overnight success." In-depth interviews with the band along with never before seen film footage are included in the hour-long program. The VH-1 Big Backyard Barbecue with the Goo Goo Dolls presented live on Labor Day is still being aired. An Oxnard, California resident was selected from 2.3 million entries when he won the fourth annual Backyard Barbecue contest. He and 100 of his friends won an all-expense paid barbecue and a one hour performance by the Goo Goo Dolls in his back yard. In other television news, the Goo Goo Dolls will perform at GQ's Fourth Annual Men of the Year Awards on October 21st in New York City. Hosted by Dennis Miller, the award show honors sixteen men of distinction selected via a poll by GQ Magazine readers. Garth Brooks and Lenny Kravitz will also perform at the event, which will air on VH-1 on October 29th. The Goo Goo Dolls have had three No. 1 singles in a row: "Name" from their 1995 album A Boy Named Goo and "Iris" and "Slide" from Dizzy Up the Girl. "Iris," originally recorded for the multi-platinum City of Angels soundtrack garnered three GRAMMY nominations for the band this past February. "Iris" was honored at the BMI Awards as 1998's ^Most Performed Song from a Film," and according to the music trade publication, Airplay Monitor, it was the most played song of 1998.
