Well, you're looking at it from a physical
standpoint, and if we took it further, we could
say everything that will ever happen is
'predestined' by the way the universe formed.

Or you can jump all the way to the other side,
that we are what matters and that the universe is
just a product of the mental world, our thoughts
and whatnot.

Of course, then we could be like Rousseau, who
said that one is not dependent on the other, but
that both effect eachother (the physical and
mental worlds), yada yada yada.

Of course, generally people fall in between,
saying that one is dominant over the other, but
that the other is important too, and there are a
million different ways to look at it, et cetera.

Anyway, it's all what you want to believe, so I
wouldn't suggest trying to come up with a 'right'
answer, because we can't really be sure if one
exists.
