Garth Brooks Performs Live Concert Exclusively for Wal-Mart

Nov. 17 Show to Go Live Via Satellite to Over 2,300 Wal-Mart Stores

NASHVILLE, Tenn.--(ENTERTAINMENT WIRE)--Nov. 2, 1998--Garth Brooks, whose current concert tour has sold over 5 million tickets in less than three years, will perform a special live concert exclusively for Wal-Mart customers on Tuesday, Nov. 17, at 9:00 p.m. (EST). The special will feature Brooks performing his classic hits with his band from a studio in Los Angeles, with the concert being beamed via satellite to televisions in more than 2,300 Wal-Mart electronics departments across the country. Various special events are being planned locally to bring the concert excitement into each store.

The concert coincides with the release date of Brooks' first live album, a 2-CD set called ``Garth Brooks Double Live,'' which will also hit stores on Nov. 17. Featuring 25 live recordings (over 100 minutes of music) including three new singles, the 2-CD set will offer a tremendous value for consumers, with sale pricing beginning at $13.98.

``Garth Brooks Double Live'' will come in a variety of limited commemorative packages reflecting major events in Brooks' career. While each 2-CD set will contain the same exact recordings, consumers will have several options regarding the look of their purchase. The artwork for each package, including booklet photos and special designs on the discs themselves, will be retired after a run of 1 million copies, resulting in a completely different package for every million copies produced and shipped in the U.S. The cassette package is entirely different from those for the CDs. Each CD booklet also contains a diary of Garth's personal reflections on his career milestones. Covers available when the album is released on Nov. 17 are: The First Edition (marked with a silver foil seal); Central Park; Dublin, Ireland; World Tour II (1996-1998); Texas Stadium 1993; and Reunion Arena 1991. Wal-Mart is guaranteeing a First Edition copy to all pre-sell customers making a $2.00 deposit before Nov. 10.

The Wal-Mart concert is the first of two specials Brooks is doing that week. On Nov. 18, he will host his sixth NBC television special, ``Garth Brooks Double Live.'' Featuring Garth in front of a studio audience, ``Garth Brooks Double Live'' will be broadcast live from the NBC Studios in Burbank, Calif. Brooks will do three different live versions of the specials -- one for Eastern/Central time zones at 8:00 p.m. EST (7:00 p.m. CST); one for Mountain time zone at 7:00 p.m. MST; and one for Pacific time zone at 8:00 p.m. PST. The one-hour special will spotlight exclusive, never-before-seen concert footage of Brooks performing new songs from ``Garth Brooks Double Live.'' Brooks will also interact with viewers live via satellite, show clips of his favorite performances from his previous specials, and perform live.

Brooks, the reigning CMA and ACM Entertainer of the Year, has received every accolade the recording industry can bestow on an artist, including: 2 Grammys, 11 American Music Awards, 11 Country Music Association Awards, 16 Academy of Country Music Awards, and 9 People's Choice Awards. On August 7, 1997, Brooks drew the largest crowd ever for a concert in New York's Central Park. ``Garth Live From Central Park,'' airing on HBO, was the highest rated original program on HBO in 1997, as well as the most-watched special on cable television in 1997, drawing 14.6 million television viewers.
