But TT5B NOW!

The original site from 1998

In 1994 the first incarnation of this site was born, it was called the Intergalactic Planetary Beastie Boys Site and was not hosted by Music Fan Clubs (MFC). It was a small site but well designed and it included MP3's of some "rare" tracks. The webmaster was called TriggerX and he hosted it on his own web space.

At some point around 1998 the site was moved to MFC and the MP3's had to go.
Regardless of the fact that there wasn't much on the site it still managed to have a huge amount of people visit it and became a favourite with search engines, such as Google.

Fast forward to April 2003 and I, Jim Gaunt, was looking around at Beastie Boys sites getting inspiration for my own which I wanted to create. I came across this site and realised it had not been updated in a long time. I tried contacting TriggerX to see if he still ran the site but his contact details were out of date and did not work.
At this point I asked MFC if TriggerX was still the webmaster and if he wasn't if I could take over his position. They agreed to let me take over the site after I submitted ideas for what I would do with the site.

My first design, note the amount of information that was there

I made a quick, clean site with a white background. I kept many of the things TriggerX had started and added many of my own. I now had made a super site which would become the second best Beastie Boys site after Beastiepad stopped getting updates and the Audio / Visual Site closed.

The new style. And people thought the white hurt there eyes...

Unfortunately some people complained the white hurt there eyes so I decided to redesign the site and make it blue, which most Beastie Boys sites seem to be. Taco Zip was going to help me with images but unfortunately he became busy so I left the images off and decided I would upload the half finished site now and finsih it later. I never ended up finishing it though so the site was even worse than before, although some people did like it.
I made up for bad design by uploading lots of downloads and keeping an up to date news page.

Alternative darker version, never finished

I was going to make a darker version of the site but because I am still in school, currently in my final year, I found I was too. I was now also too busy to update the news anymore so I gave the job to two friends from the Beastie Boys Message Board. That was fine until people became so desperate for news that the news on this site was becomeing as bad as that on the Message Board. In frustration over how bad the site was I pulled it down stateing it was down for "maintenance". In truth I never planned on bringing it back, although I did make some designs now and again.

I still like this but by now I wanted to steer away from the blue

One design that partially made it onto this one was a blue site, much like the old one, which had logos and all the images were put through Photoshopshop's 'Cutout' Filter to give it a weird look (see the FAQ were I liked some of the images made so I kept them). I then decided I didn't like that design and it was discarded.
The next design was all red with yellow text and was based on the new Parrot T-shirt that is avaliable at the Beastie Boys Store. I liked that one a lot, even though it was hard to read, and nearly finsihed it but Minton was going to provide me with a High Quality image of the Parrot T-Shirt before he became increasingly busy. When I did get the image I had been playing around with Templates in Dreamweaver and decided I would make the site useing one of those. I then downloaded 20 or so that I thought would look good.

The logo says "Life size Website. Lots of Downloads. Contains $5 Extra Zine, News & FAQ. * No Discography See Beastiemania.com"

I decided to plan the site out on paper first and then make it. What I designed wasn't like any of the templates and I decided to go Old School and make a basic site which still looked good.

I kept the logo and the pic of them and borowed the robot which I animated in ImageReady.
I then made this site, which was all Grey and I uploaded a screenshot to DeviantArt were there is also a screenshot of the Parrot site. I showed the site to Minton and he liked it and so did I so I decided not to change it to much, maybe just ad some colour. I wanted to ad a picture from the Body Movin video since there were great colours in there. I had decided on a pic of Mike D's face after MCA's head got cut off when I found the pic of Mike jumping at the camera in the Alive video. I then edited that into the background (which was still Grey) on the front page but it didn't look right.

Going through colours in Dreamweaver and Photoshop I came across the red that is the current background. I think it's a great colour because it's not too dark and not too light so it won't hurt people's eyes. Unfortunately the Mike D background didn't look to great so I moved it here.
I wasn't to sure what I was going to put on this page until I went through my notes on the sites design and saw I had written an idea for a "Makeings Of" were I would discuss how I made the site, so that's what I put in.

Other ideas that didn't make it were that when you put your mouse over the Parrot image it would play a sound file with a parrot going "Squark!" as well as that the Robot (borowed from the old BeastieBoys.com site) was going to display a random Beastie quote, but I might ad that later.

I would like to give special thanks to Minton and David both who serve as inspiration and help me with my sites when I get stuck. Also special mention to taco Zip who gave me the idea for the countdown to June after reading his post on the Message Board were he said it was 100 days etc. till June.

Also none of this could be done without the great people at Music Fan Clubs who host this site and allowed me to take over from TriggerX.

If you are interested in seeing what this and other sites look liked in the past go to www.archive.org and type the sites name into the Way Back Machine.

UPDATE June 02 2004:

The previous version that I was talking about above looked like this:

Version 4 Final version

I had thought about redesigning the site for a while in a album theme and the album art and colours for To The Five Boroughs was extremely inspiring. But then Beastieplaza redesigned their site in a TT5B theme and I put the thought to the back of my head.

But on June 02 I started to make my own TT5B design just for fun but liked it so much I put it up instead.
Special thanks to Taco Zip for helping me with the random image generator on the front page.

UPDATE Juley 01 2004:
