Step one - Downloading an FTP program

The most commonly used FTP program on the Message Board is SmartFTP so if you have that then it is more likely you can be helped if you ever have any trouble with an FTP. If you already have an FTP program then you don't have to download SmartFTP if you don't want to, but this article deals exclusivly with SmartFTP so if you are new to FTP's then I would advise you do download SmartFTP.

NOTE: The website is in 5 different languages, if English is not your first language and your language is avaliable then perhaps try one of the others by clicking the flag. This will hopefully help you understand the site better.

The program, SmartFTP, is also avaliable in 19 different languages. They are listed below:
Bulgarian, Czech, Catalan, Chinese, Croatian, Danish, Estonian, Finnish, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Norwegian, Portugese (Brasil), Russian, Spanish, Swedish and Turkish.

When at the site you will see a huge image asking you to download SmartFTP (see image below).

Either click on the button or on one of the many 'Download' links, such as the one to the right of the button. You will then be taken to this page:

Under the SmartFTP Full Setup heading there is a link for 'Full Setup' (as shown below), click this and your download window will open asking you were you want to save the file. It does not matter were you save it although I would recommend a folder that you use often and that is easy to get to, such as your Desktop, so that you begin the instalation as soon as possible.

The file is about 6MB so it could take anywere from 30 seconds to 30 minutes depending on your connection. If you want to install the file as quick as possible then I would advise you stop all other download and uploads while this is downloading, but thats entirly up to you.

When the file is completely downloaded it should look like this:

We can now begin the instalation. NOTE: If you experince trouble trying to install SmartFTP then the file might be damaged and you should download it again. If the problem persists then I suggest you conatct the team at SmartFTP here.
