The Pumpkins on CNN's Showbiz transcript

Billy- "We're a cantankerous group. Right, we don't take shit from anybody. And the minute that we got one step down the knives come out. And that's it"

Narrator- The Pumpkins with a persecution complex, not really, It's just that their new album Adore is underperforming, it's not selling as well as the last, and the smashing pumpkins blame some fans for not following them into new musical direction.

Billy- "Because by at this point they should have enough faith and confidence in us. It's like I have faith and confidence in the bands that I admire, and if they don't then they're not fans."

D'arcy- "We're not about, each style of music, we're about putting out great moving music."

James - "And it's it we had to change or we couldn't keep doing the same kind of thing or we wouldn't be a band anymore, cremated, just a retake of our last record"

BC- "Thank you, thank you very much."

Narrator- They donated over 419,000 dollars to this home for abandoned babies in Harlem. Charitable causes in 13 other cities on this tour are also the recipients of the band's benevolence.

Billy- "You walk into a place and you see these babies and you see the love they are getting and you also know the situation they're coming from. And it makes you want to cry. We get attention and we get glory and people want our autograph I mean this is a real hero right here, this is really a big fuck you to everybody. Its like ok if we can do it, if we can do it what about you, you know, Mr. 'making 20 million dollars a movie', you know Mr. 'sports star earning 10 million dollars for playing in a 162 games'."

Narrator: Philanthropy Smashing Pumpkins style, in the face of less then charitable treatment from some of their critics.

Billy- "Well, we proved everyone wrong before and we'll prove them wrong again."
