Daytona, FL NASCAR- Daytona Speedway - Dale Earnhardt Tribute Concert
June 28, 2003
From: Michelle

The WOG girls got to the speedway at about 9:30am and there were people already in line even though the gates did not open until 12. I did not get there until about 11:30 and rzezniksangel let me cut in line (thanks Melissa!) When they opened the gates at a little after 12 it was complete madness. Several gates had opened at the same time and thousands of people just went running for the stage. I seriously thought I might get trampled. It was crazy because we had to stop for them to look in our bags and then for them to scan our tickets. And let me tell you, that infield is HUGE and it was a long way to the stage. By the time we got up to the stage, the whole rail was already taken. Some of us decided to go to the other side to see if we could get closer because Kim said she saw some room on the other side. The rail was split in two with a walk way down the middle for security - it did not go straight across the stage - so we had to walk all the way around a huge area to get to the other side. It was so unbelievably hot and I just told the girls to go ahead and I would meet up with them. After a ladies room stop and splashing some water on my face, I tried to get to where they were and it was impossible because of all the lawn chairs. I hung out for a bit and then got a call from DisneyGoo that she was on her way. When she got there we just found a place on the lawn further back and decided we would wait for Goo and then try to move up closer. Oh, yeah, did I say how HOT it was?? HOT HOT HOT and the concession stands kept running out of water. Ok, so, at aabout 4:30 or so, these HUGE BLACK CLOUDS appear. I'm thinking, OH NO! Please don't rain now!! Well, it did rain and not only did it rain but it was a torrential downpour that lasted for quite a while. Many of the people on the field just got up and ran, leaving their chairs behind. The field was a mess, but it actually worked to my advantage because so many people left that I was able to get up to about 3rd row behind the rail. I never did see any of the WOG girls until after the concert was over The rain finally let up but it did rain on and off during the Goos set and they started almost an hour later than scheduled. Now for the GOOd stuff!! First of all, John was all belly tonight!! OMG!!! He had on a black tank top with his camos and his whole belly was showing!! In fact, he treated us all to a very nice view of his Tommy Hilfiger undies sticking out of his pants too!! It was worth getting soaked in the rain to see that! Anyway, back to the show, John and Robby seemed to be having a great time, John was pretty talkative, told the hot as a hooker in chuch joke and some other funny stuff. Here is the set list:

Dizzy
Long Way Down
Slide
Here is Gone
Black Balloon
Big Machine
Smash
Tucked Away
Name
Broadway
Sympathy
Iris

John had some technical difficulties during name, Damage brought him another guitar - still problems, so he took the guitar and threw it down and kept singing. He didn't seem pissed, he seemed to think it was funny. During Iris - more technical difficulties, took about 3 different tries with different guitars - he told Greg to start the song without him. Seemed weird to see him singing it without the guitar. Finally, a guitar that worked right, then John slipped and fell on some water on the stage. He got up and shook his head, started laughing, looked at Robby, they were both laughing and then I think he realized he broke a guitar string or something when he fell so again he took his guitar and threw it. After Iris was finished as the Goos were leaving the stage, Robby ran and dove and slid across the stage on his belly in the water that John had slipped on. Then, John dove and slid across the stage too on his belly!! VERY FUNNY STUFF!! All things considered, it was an awesome show, well worth the trip and getting soaked for. It was great to meet all of the wonderful WOG ladies and see some of the people again that I have met at previous concerts. I had a great time and I'm looking forward to my next GOOey adventure!! After Iris was finished as the Goos were leaving the stage, Robby ran and dove and slid across the stage on his belly in the water that John had slipped on.
