On August, 15, 1998, I saw the Goo Goo Dolls for the eighth time at Artpark, in Lewiston, NY.

Fuel was the opening band and they played for about an hour. They played almost all of the songs from their cd, Sunburn. Although most of the crowd didn't know anything more than their radio hit, "Shimmer" , I have seen them before and I thought that they played a good set.

The Goo Goo Dolls came on at about 9:30 p.m. and started playing. Robby played barefoot, as he has in the past at the Buffalo shows that I have seen.

The set list for the evening:

Long Way Down
Fallin' Down
Close Your Eyes
Stop the World
String Of Lies
Already There
Naked
Lazy Eye
Slide
Name
Just The Way You Are
Lucky Star
There You Are
Dizzy
Fool Forever
Another Second Time Around
Broadway
Flat Top
Iris

Encore:

Eyes Wide Open
Personality
Girl Right Next To Me
Between "There You Are" and "Dizzy", Johnny introduced Nathan December, and the keyboard player, Dave Schulz, who is from the Buffalo area. Before they played the new songs which were "Slide", "Dizzy", "Fool Forever", and " "Broadway", Robby said that it was important to them that the fans liked the new songs.

Johnny and Robby were both very energetic and appreciative of the crowd's enthusiasm and support. Most of the songs they played were from Superstar Carwash.

The highlight of the night was "Iris", when a small group of string musicians from the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra came out and took their places behind Mike. It was a wonderful way to enhance the sound of "Iris". The show ended a little after 11:00 p.m. I thought that it was a good mix of both old and new songs and I look forward to seeing them on tour.
