Not really sure, but here are some ideas:

1. a girl named "Iris", granted not a real exciting idea
2. could be a reference to the eye, since an iris is part fo the eye, and
how the world views him and how he views someone he loves (possibly from a
distance)
3. although the iris could refer to the eye, "I just want you to know who I
am" seems to have a much deeper meaning than pure visual knowledge.  like
someone seeing you at a club or party and them seeing you, maybe feeling a
vibe, but not a true knowledge of each other.
