Subject: goo GOOIER GOOEST and a lil more GOO GOO GOO From: "desparate tears" Date: 1998/01/13 Message-ID: <69ergc$8t7@bgtnsc01.worldnet.att.net> Newsgroups: alt.music.goo-goo-dolls [More Headers] heh hehh.. hi there. i love superstar carwash and a.b.n.g. but i was wondering.. other than one other one, i havent really heard much by the goo'z. i saw them in concert and i knew every song that they played. i think i also heard or read somewhere that the earlier stuff.. they didnt like. and this is what they are about now. is that true? anyone got opinions on their earlier stuff? From fabfay@aol.com Tue Jan 13 06:04:16 1998 Sure. The older stuff is definitely punkier sounding. If you like ABNG and Superstar, the best progression for you would be to listen to "hold me up" next (my fave Goo album) and then on to JED and the First Release. "hold me up" is where they became more "pop" sounding, more radio friendly, in my opinion. I'm surprised that it wasn't more of a break through hit for them than it was. The older stuff is good, too. It's all in what you like. I happen to like ALL the Goo stuff and can't get enough. But, if you find that you enjoy only the more recent stuff, then stay with that. There's plenty more Goo ahead for all of us!! Fay From gtrjo2@aol.com Tue Jan 13 19:57:43 1998 I was in a band from Toronto, and I remember we did a show in Buffalo with Motorhead and they put the Goo Goo Dolls right after us and before Motorhead....I think it was the Hold Me Up album that was new at the time.....since then I have been a big fan.....I enjoy their older stuff quite a bit, but their newer material is equally as good.......shows the musical maturity, and the talents of these fine gentlemen...... From mreiter@osf1.gmu.edu Wed Jan 14 10:06:11 1998 I agree with Fabfay's take on the early stuff. The first record is unfocused and a bit goofy but still sports a couple great tracks. "Different Light" comes to mind. The song writing (and playing) improves exponentially on Jed.
