Remember when these guys were hard-hitting, power-ballad-less rockers without a hit? Well, times have changed, and songs like "Name" and "Iris" have turned these guys into softies. On Dizzy up the Girl, the band rocks back to its roots, perhaps to win back its frustrated fans of old. Yet, apart from the inclusion of their City of Angels hit "Iris," the Goo Goo Dolls rock like frustrated old men trying desperately to rekindle the flame that once burned brighter than Keith Richards' cigarette (not that there's anything wrong with that!). Fortunately, they do get some redemption in short helpings of bliss, but this ain't rock 'n' roll ecstasy, just some momentary dizzyness that will soon pass. Don't worry guys, there are always more soundtracks to score.
