She can't remember the title of the song or the name of the band/artist. The only thing she does remember is this line: "1, 2, 3 malignous" or it could be "1, 2, 3, malignant" I know that's not much to work with here, but if you recognize that line, please email me. Staff Writer Chris Nelson reports: The first concert tour produced by downloadable-music website MP3.com got off to a confusing start last week. In the first four dates of the MP3.com Music and Technology Tour, which the Goo Goo Dolls are headlining, organizers stopped charging for admission to the tour's Village area ^× featuring lesser-known bands and digital-music technology displays ^× in the face of low attendance. They canceled the Village at one stop and clarified that the Goo Goo Dolls would not be appearing on all dates. "This is the beta test of what it is we're going to do offline," MP3.com Senior Vice President John Diaz said Monday. On Saturday the Village was canceled at the University of Illinois in Champaign, Ill. Diaz said the decision to bag the fair was made Friday evening because of heavy rain. Earlier that day, the Village was moved inside the Assembly Hall concert site, but it could not stay there Saturday because of the Goo Goo Dolls' setup. But several Assembly Hall employees, including marketing director Gary O'Brien, said Saturday's Village was already canceled by Friday morning. On Friday the Village "did OK, but it didn't do great," O'Brien said, adding that while the hall hadn't sold a single $10 Village-only ticket, the $20 ticket for the Goo Goo Dolls included entrance to the Village. Diaz estimated that fewer than 1,000 people attended the area in more than 10 hours on Friday. The Village fee was scrapped during the tour's first stop, Oct. 5, at the University of Iowa, in Iowa City. Diaz said making the fair free encouraged more people to visit and was in keeping with MP3.com's history of giving away music online for free. "It was pretty disappointing the first few days," John Lenihan, MP3.com's public relations manager, said. "The attendance for the bands wasn't great." In the past 18 months, MP3.com ^× which counts among its investors singer/songwriter Alanis Morissette and rapper Master P's No Limit Records ^× has become the epicenter for the downloadable-music movement. The site features free, near-CD-quality music by more than 25,000 artists. Earlier this year, MP3.com made its first move into the concert trade by sponsoring Morissette and Tori Amos' joint 5 1/2 Weeks Tour. It also will sponsor a TLC tour that kicks off Friday. The Music and Technology Tour is the website's first foray into producing concerts. The company is using the William Morris Agency to book talent for the outing and Tour Together, an Aspen, Colo., tour production and staffing company, to handle logistics such as staging and lighting, Diaz said. Despite such partnerships, organization has been problematic. Lenihan, for instance, said he did not know until Monday that Saturday's Village production was canceled. Last week, tour representatives at Nasty Little Man publicity said they were unaware that the Goo Goo Dolls and Tonic would play only the second day in cities where the tour had two-day stops. The tour's website was amended last week to make that clear. "It's the beginning of the tour, and there's bound to be a glitch here and there," Nasty Little Man spokesperson Perry Serpa said Tuesday (Oct. 12). Staging the Village area in addition to the main concert means there are more details to be considered than on most tours, Serpa added. The confusion doesn't appear to have affected the tour's main attractions. The Goo Goo Dolls packed their 90-minute set with pop hits such as "Slide" (RealAudio excerpt), "Name" and "Iris," as well as some older, harder-rocking material. Singer John Rzeznik bantered frequently with the crowd. Tonic opened the show with a set that had fans standing on their chairs even before the band dug into such hits as "If You Could Only See." also, i wanna say happy birthday to my brother! he's not on the list, but the jerk i am, forgot it was his birthday and didn't get him anything! am i not the worst sister?! and he's like the best brother, ya know... he stood with me through an entire goo concert in the rain! probably why he's still bitter against the goos... oh well, i'll try and make it up to him! :) ~rachel ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 15 Oct 1999 00:16:07 -0500 (CDT) To: ggd383 From: World of Goo cc: goo@mailinglists.org Subject: Re: [GOO] non-alblum goo songs/box music network story/happy birthday! It started at 8 pm, me and Sarah got there at 2. We got there early and walked around the village for the day. We saw some local bands play. And, we went back by the tour busses and saw John Rzeznik.....I went to talk to him and some stupid security lady started yelling at me!!! I was so mad, then he just left. But I met Nathan again, and got a picture with him. Then the guys from Tonic were walking around and riding bikes and stuff, so I took pictures of them. We finally got into the where the GGD's would play, and sat in our seats. We had row 4. That didn't last long because before Fern, (the first band) started, we ran up and got front row. We were standing up against the wall. We watched Fern, they were very good, I liked them. Then Tonic and the the GGD'S. After Tonic, the security gaurds, (mind you they were only college students), tried to check everybodys tickets and tell them that if they didn't have row 1 that they would have to go back to their seats. Well, Sarah, Bill, and I, decided not to go, since people were in our seats. So we scammed our way out of that one. We had to wait and wait until the GGD's came on, and ran back up to front row, but this time I got second row cuz these annoying girls were in front of me. The only songs that they knew were Iris, Slide....ya know only the VERY popular ones, and they had front row! That made me mad. But I took a role of film, we weren't even aloud to take pictures, so I just kept sneeking a picture every now and then. Some times they would catch me, and give me a really mean look and tell me to PUT THE CAMERA AWAY!!! So when they weren't looking I would just hurry up and take one. I met Jeni and Brandon from the list there..they were cool :o) Well....after the concert I met and got pictures with all of the guys from Fern. Thay were very shy. They were really young too, one of they was only 20. I saw Nathan again, and Mike and Dave were walking around. Tonic was too. Well you can E-mail me if you have any questions or comments!!! Down side, there was a fight during There You Are so John stopped the concert, had them turn the house light on so they could get the people out of there. He was kind of funny about it, he said "We aren't Metallica, We aren't Korn, People don't fight at our concerts, we are sissy rock, didn't you know that?" The whole ordeal ruin There You Are cause they just picked it up at the guitar solo instead of starting over. All in all it was a great show. Fern and Tonic were great too! I was going to go to the Goos November 6th show in South Carolina but I'm not sure now. I don't have a car here at school in Georgia, so my roommate was going to drive me up there because she lives like 5 minutes away from the campus. But now she has to do a service project on that day for the school and doesn't know if she will feel like going up or if we will be able to get there in time. I was really looking forward to it. Oh well. Maybe I'll win tickets off the radio for the concert here on Halloween.....I doubt it though. I have no luck. That's my sad story for now. I hope your day is better than mine. Jessie P.S. I have 2 extra copies of Guild Gallery if anyone still needs one. I'd like to trade. ===== __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? I know, maybe I'm taking this Junior Formal thing way too damn seriously, but i honestly don't give a fuck. The guy my friend asked told her no, so she's been bitching about it for twelve hours, and i so don't wanna listen, i have my own goddamn problems. Oh, god, We Are The Normal just came on, now I'm crying even harder. I'm so mad at the guy who yelled out my name all the time, cuz he like strung me along for a YEAR, then just dropped me, and i don't know if he doesn't like me anymore, or even if he ever did, and really beginning to doubt this whole thing. Two weeks left till junior formal tickets aren't being sold anymore, and i have no date and no one's gonna ask me except this guy who's a friend, and he's aked two people already who turned him down, and i SOOOO don't wanna be the Rebound Date. The idea of going with this guy gives me a weird feeling, like i'd be going with a brother or something. And i hate to say it, but i really wanna go with a hot guy, and no hot guys are gonna ask me because i'm not that popular and i'm quiet and it's SO FUCKING UNFAIR. Oh, god, i can't stand feeling this bad about myself, and i want someone to ask me, but i want it to be someone i like. I have no one to talk to about this because my friends don;t know that i like the guy that yelled my name(his name is Sean), no one does, everyone thinks i hate him, and i used to, but now i like him, maybe because i like that he likes me. But now i'm not even sure he likes me, or that he even did, and i'm questioning myself over one stupid guy!! I just got back from florida, it was fun. I went to the Virgin megastore in hopes of picking up Bang, but they didn't have it, or any other imports. I did manage to get the replacements' all for nothing CD, which is really cool. It even has a quote from John talking about the guys in the band in the book: "In 1991 we got the opening slot on the final Replacements tour, about ten shows. It was the last show and I saw Paul backstage before we played. He thanked us for doing the tour and told me there was a little extra money for us at the end of the night. I remember thinking to myself,"What a great guy." Then we went to do our set. We got on stage which was blacked out and then realized that Paul and the guys had covered the stage with sticky backstage passes, gummy side up. Hundreds of them, all over the stage. Obviously we didn't see them in time. We were barefoot and we had these huge wads of sticky paper stuck to our feet. It looked like Robby and I had snowshoes on. And then I remember thinking to myself,"What a bastard." I think that's what made them great-they were half saints-half bastards." -John Rzeznik, Goo Goo Dolls I thought this was pretty funny. We also were driving in Cocoa Beach and I was looking out the window and saw a used CD store and there were TWO HUGE DIZZY UP THE GIRL BANNERS!!!!! I told my dad to stop, we had to go back, i saw dizzy posters!! So I went in and talked to the owner for a few minutes and asked if they were for sale, and he said,no, even though they had price tags on them for only $17.99, and he had 2!! He said he was going to take them home but I didn't believe him, and if you had seen him, you would know why. Anyways, I started telling him that he shouldn't have them hanging up if he had no goo stuff inside, which he didn't. He said they were good attention-getters. Thats for sure. So I left. If you live in Florida near Cocoa Beach, its ABCD's music shop, maybe you can convince him better. We also went to Hard Rock Cafe, and they played Black balloon on the TV's, it was so cool, i took a picture. I also took a pic of all the replacement's memoribilia. Well, thanx for reading this, its SO long.. so long.. but I didn't wanna tell ya oh so long... They also have on the content page a caracature picture of Johnny it's really funny. This is the biggest interview of the band ever to be put in the Rolling Stones. Anyone been listening to this version of Jenny 8675309 at this site http://www.geocities.com/SunsetStrip/Vine/5378/menu.htm lately? I know it was a long time ago, but does anyone know the story behind it? Why does Johnny yell "You could get a cramp doing that this early!"? A few months ago (I know I'm behind), someone wrote about Goo "skins" for mp3 players....I think....could someone tell me where and if there are some? Did you guys read about John not liking "Goo Goo Clusters"...what a pity...at least Mike likes them... Anyone know which year "I'm Awake Now" came out? I think when when you listen to John singing on that song you find out what he means when he says "I used to sing wrong"...it sounds like he's screaming/shouting from one side of a room into the microphone on the other side....that must really kill your vocal cords.... A while ago, someone mentioned something about Black Balloon and the promo to "Meet Joe Black"....could someone fill me in on what was going on? (I know I ask a lot of questions) Anyone hear what Rick Dees did to the Black Balloon lyrics? If I recall correctly, Slide was also manipulated to fit his countdown show...by the way, anyone except me get the feeling that Rick Dees isn't exactly impressed by the name "Goo Goo Dolls"? Everytime he says it he kinda has this mocking tone like he has when he says "Get an earfull of Goo when you see them in concert" or something similiar...at least he said the Goos give fantastic concerts.....I wouldn't know *sob*.... Well, that's enough now....if you're one of the 3 people that made it this far.... Be hearing from you guys soon.... ~~Sheena~~ ************************************** And I hate your attitude but I ain't scared at all cause it don't matter what you do ~So Far Away I might be running but I'm never running back to you ~String of Lies Don't fall asleep to dream ~I'm Awake Now No matter how much you care some people are just a$$holes ~????? IF YOU ARE SENDING AN E-MAIL BIRTHDAY MESSAGE: If you are planning on sending John a birthday e-mail send me an e-mail that says what you wanna say to him, then I will print it out on Wordpad. I can print it out on various different colors of paper I have white, purple, coffee color, light blue, light green, orange and a flesh sort of color.
