I think I can answer them all: The Beaumonts was a group with Johnny and Robby's cousin, named after Hugh Beaumont, the "neighborhood authority figure" from Leave it to Beaver. John, Robby, and George were originally called the Sex Maggots, though this has been spelled many different ways. They had to change their name because it offended too many people, and newspapers refused to print it. Though John has said in some interviews that they never had Sex Maggots as their name, he was lying, as he does sometimes. In fact, in one such interview, he later confesses to the interviewing DJ that he sometimes makes up answers to questions he doesn't want to answer. 867-5309 Jenny is a cover of a Tommy Tutone song. It doesn't appear on any album, though you can get it on some live boots or rarities tapes. Catherine Zeta Jones (with a "C," not a "K") is engaged to Michael Douglas. She and John appeared in one picture together. End of story. If you need lyrics, go to the World of Goo. My boyfriend was driving me to school today....He never lets me listen to the goos....It's either his Iron Maiden, Black Sabbath stuff (which i've sorta come to like) or the radio. So we had the radio on and they played BROADWAY!! This is after my many requests, and getting answers like "it's not in rotation yet." So anyway, my boyfriend starts singing along! As far as i knew he HATED the goos! He's the one that bought me goo tickets and then wouldn't go with me! So i asked him how he knew the song since it hasn't been played on the radio, and it turns out he bought DUTG sunday! I had no idea! And he likes it! So i whipped out my JED cd (I bring it everywhere!) and he LOVED that one even more! I was soooo happy! Then i was sitting in first block history class, and they usually have the morning announcements on the TV....and this morning they played LONG WAY DOWN on the announcements. I think i looked like a freak since i knew all the words and was singing along...but who cares?? In freshman composition we're doing this song interpretation thing. Our teacher plays us a song, and then we have to interpret it. Much to my surprise my teacher pulls ABNG outta her bookbag and puts on NAME!! I'm pretty sure i got an A on that paper!!! Last thing.....I JUST got a phone call from my boyfriend....his band is playing Broadway! They are REALLY awesome! Their next gig is at our school dance, and he's thinking about playin' it! Ahhh....this makes me soo happy! Btw....I named their band.....Gimme Shelter.....Hmmmmm....I wonder where that came from!! lol Anyway, that was my gooey day! Thanks to anyone who read this far! This is from the Roseland Ballroom Show NYC 11-13-98 almost word for word...there were like two words he mumbled, so i couldn't really understand! "A couple years ago i'm sitting in my living room playin' my guitar (plays chords of name-crowd goes wild) and i said that's cool, i'll make it into a record. So i was drivin' down the street one day, turned on the radio and heard this comin' outta the radio (plays first couple chords of name) and i said Oh FUCK..I'm ruined! All those years of punk rock cool i thought i had. Maybe no one'll notice. I thought no one would notice. I thought i was cool. Then two things happened that showed me how cool i really was. I was in the supermarket at 3:30 in the morning buying cat litter and i heard this coming outta the speaker (plays first couple chords of name). I'm buying fuckin' cat litter and i hear my song comin' outta the speaker. And go, man i used to be soo cool....Shit! Ah.....no one'll notice! Then i was sittin at home a couple days later, and i open up the mail (sound effects) I get a letter...And the letter says: Dear Faggot, (my dad's gotta stop sendin' me this stuff...it's gettin old, but so is this story, but anyway)It said, Dear Faggot, That song sucks and you sold out! Signed Mr. Indie Punk Rock Guy. PS. I'm publishing in my 'zine how much i hate you. I'm like oh man, that kinda hurt...but i just got mad, so wrote him a letter back! It said....Dear Mr. Indie Punk Rock Guy....EAT A BIG BAG OF SHIT....PS I'm cancelling my subscription to your 'zine. The moral of the story is you can't swim in the pool without splashing someone in the eyes with something....and what that means i don't exactly know.....(starts playin' Name) Kristyn ;o) http://community.webtv.net/twodaysinfeb/GooGooDollsTrading ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 18 Jan 2000 16:56:40 -0800 (PST) To: goo@mailinglists.org From: Elissa Zlatkovich Subject: VH1's 100 Greatest Songs of Rock & Roll Message-ID: <20000119005640.24188.qmail@web1901.mail.yahoo.com> There was an article in the El Paso Times today entitled "'Best' lists dominate music field," and among other things it was talking about VH1's 100 Greatest Songs of Rock & Roll. Anyway, it said that the newest song on the list was Nirvana's "Smells Like Teen Spirit," from 1991. Anyway, it seems that the 700 people in the music industry who were polled on this were biased toward older, "classic" songs. It happens all the time. There's always the question of whether or not a newer song will "hold up" in later years, so they're generally left off of these lists. Anyway, that explains the absence of "Name," "Iris," "Slide," or *any* Goo song for that matter, from this list. (Personally, I think "So Far Away" deserves to be on the list, but that's just my opinion.) Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm off to read my 58 messages from the list which have piled up since whenever it was that went wrong did. (Sorry, I'm usually more articulate than that. I hope that last sentence made a little bit of sense!) -Elissa =) P.S. Nikki, if you're reading this, I'm *really* sorry, but I'll have to email you tomorrow... I'm really busy right now! ===== "We were an alternative rock band when that meant something--when it wasn't a clever marketing euphemism for mainstream rock." **John Rzeznik of the Goo Goo Dolls** "Punk's not dead, it's just at Kmart!" ~*~Johnny Goo~*~ "We didn't think it was going to get played on the radio at all.
