Here's the link: http://www.gurlpages.com/music/goo-goo-girl/international.html On this page, I'll post info that my international correspondents tell me about Goo stuff in their country. I currently have correspondents from Sweden, England and the Netherlands. If you'd like to be one, e-mail me! Also, I'm still accepting answers for January's question of the month: "What are you hoping for on the Goos' next album? Anything specifically similar to or different from 'Dizzy Up the Girl?'" Lastly, I found a music site with some pretty thorough Goo stuff. It even has recent stuff like the plane mishap, unlike a lot of sites I've seen. Nirvana 2. Pearl Jam 3. Metallica 4. Dave Matthews Band 5. Godsmack 6. Korn 7. Rage Against the Machine 8. Smashing Pumpkins 9. Alanis Morrisette 10. Alice in Chains 11. Limp Bizkit 12. Goo Goo Dolls now i have nothing against nirvana, pearl jam or metallica coming in ahead of the goos, but limp bizkit and godsmack? come on people! but the goos had two songs in the top 100 - iris was 8 and name was 15. i just want to say that this the first poll i've found where i actually liked with alot of the choices, except for #99 which was "ice ice baby". ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 11 Jan 2000 17:09:00 -0500 (EST) To: goo@mailinglists.org From: twodaysinfeb@webtv.net (Kristyn VanOrden) Subject: THE FINAL LIST FOR LIST QUESTON #2!!!! It's prolly nothin compared to Becka's but I tried! I made up around 20 questions to ask. I had two copies of the cd and tapes are very easy for me to make. I don't exactly have much else better to do..well, study for exams?:) This is what the Grand prize winner gets: 1.)Iris/Slide import (Iris, Iris acoustic, Slide, Slide Acoustic) 2.) a video tape recorded in SP w/ the following older material: *1996 PBS Special *1995/1996 Dick Clark's New Year's Eve Party *Rosie (Name) *Leno (Name) *Letterman(Name) *VH1 Crossroads (Name) *MTV's Ultimate Winter Vacation (Name) *MTV Spring Break(Naked, Name) *120 Minutes (Naked, Only One, Burnin' Up) *Leno(Long Way Down) *Letterman(Long Way Down) *Conan(Eyes Wide Open) *Friday Night (Eyes Wide Open) *Conan (Fallin' Down) *No Alternative (Bitch w/ Lance Diamond) *****And to Becka, send me ur address and I'll send u that Dizzy EP if u still would like it***** This game is for AOL members only....but if an internet chat gets worked out...whoever hosts it or asked the questions or whatever, I'll make a tape for the winner if ya want. (I'm not tryin to upstage Becka because she had a REALLY good idea to come up w/ this, but we were gonna have it last night, but no many were left in the chat, and I figured this was a good way to give someone a chance to get the cd and the older TV apperances) If ur interested, go to Arts and Entertainment - goo goo dolls trivia at 8:00 CENRTAL, 9:00 EASTERN. ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 11 Jan 2000 22:36:00 EST To: LazyEye12@aol.com, goo@mailinglists.org, ttb@onelist.com From: LazyEye12@aol.com Subject: Re: [GOO] Goo Trivia tonight...any one invited..prizes.. Performance with ELMO to Debut January 31st. Multi-platinum recording artists and Grammy nominees the Goo Goo Dolls, will make an appearance on Sesame Street this month. The pre-taped segment debuts on January 31st and will be broadcast again on February 1st, March 13th and at other times during the year. The program airs on PBS stations throughout the United States. Band members, Johnny Rzeznik (guitar,) Robby Takac (bass) and Mike Malinin (drums) perform with Sesame Street monster Elmo (guitar) on a reworked version of the group's No.1 hit "Slide." Re-titled"Pride" the new lyrics are aimed at the young viewers of Sesame Street and the various tasks they can feel proud of accomplishing ie, "You helped your mother bake a pie, you fell and didn't cry" and "When you've done the best you could, you feel really really good! You're feeling that pride!" "Doing Sesame Street was a great experience for us" says guitarist Johnny Rzeznik. "We met our favorite muppets and had the privilege of singing with Elmo. He rocks! He's one of the best singers we've ever worked with....a real professional." This year, the Goo Goo Dolls are nominated for a GRAMMY award for their hit song "Black Balloon" in the category of Best Rock Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocal. The song, written by Rzeznik, appears on the group's triple platinum album DIZZY UP THE GIRL. "Black Balloon," "Iris," and two other hits from DIZZY UP THE GIRL, "Slide"; and "Dizzy" have together accumulated over 1 million plays at radio since "Iris" was initially heard on the City of Angels soundtrack in 1998. "Iris" received three GRAMMY nominations last year and was honored as "Pop Song of the Yea" by the WB Radio Music Awards and "Most Performed Song from a Film" (City of Angels Soundtrack) at the BMI Awards. The Goo Goo Dolls plan to attend the GRAMMY awards ceremony which will air live from the Staples Center in Los Angeles on Wednesday, February 23rd on CBS TV (8PM ET/PT.) ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com --------------------------- ONElist Sponsor ---------------------------- Get great offers on top-notch products that match your interests! Once again, it is snowing like mad in here in Minnesota. Not fun...means I will be brooming cars all night long! UGH! So, this is a little early, but if I don't send it now, I may not get a chance. We have two birthday wishes for Thursday, 1/13/00. They are: Ki Stormy1 54@aol.com Cathy Eri11375@aol.com I didn't get a response from Ki, but when I do, I will post it to the whole list. Below is Cathy's response: Your name? Cathy Bates...yes, just like the actress but I'm not rich like her :( Where you are from? I was born in Japan and lived there for about 10 years but now I reside in Kentucky. How old you are turning? 25 ::sigh:: My car insurance will go down. That's a good thing?? Yeah, it is. and, your answer to the birthday question for January: Which lyric/line of a Goo song has the most personal meaning to you? Why? Ever since I read Athena's answer, I been pondering this question over and over again. Sometime I wonder what individuals made an impact in my life and I only can only think of 3 people before the Goos and I have to say, the Goos has been a major impact in my life. Not only through bringing me much happiness, joy, music and friendship but through their word of wisdom in their lyrics. I decided that I would pick one that nobody used so far and it is from Hold Me Up and the song is, You Know What I Mean. LOL...surprised? The lyric is: "Find a place that feels like home, You know I, I get some clue to where I'm going." The first part is something I been searching for a long time. Don't know how many of you lived in two different cultures that are totally different from each other and have to deal with it to survive. Dunno if that makes sense, but I lived half of my life in Japan and the other half in America and they are total opposites of each other. Since I moved here I feel like I had to learn a new way to live and socialize. Now that I have become pretty proficient at living in this American society, I feel like I have no home. I don't belong in Japan and I really don't belong in the US either. Here is more home than Japan but I really don't know where home is. Whenever I heard the beginning of that lyric, I think about that. The second part has to do with my personal struggles from last year and it seems like it's going into this year but I'm much better!! Very difficult year 1999 was for me. Just had that sense of losing direction in my life. Like getting lost and not knowing how to get back on the path that will make me happy? Knew exactly how Johnny felt when he was frustrated about not being able to complete a thought. I felt like I couldn't do that or complete a task. That just made me feel very lost so, ya know, I'm trying to get a clue of where I'm going. Sorry this is so long. Haven't posted in a while and I thought this was my chance. I have to admit, I like to post and get to talk to people I never have before! Just exciting, ya know? If you read this far, thanks for reading! Please take a minute to send birthday greetings directly to Ki and Cathy, not the whole list. If you would like to participate in the Birthday List, please contact me at GrnEyedGoo@aol.com. It will soon be too big for the "infamous red folder", but the more the merrier! Ki and Cathy, I hope you have great birthdays! Off I go, to broom cars, and daydream about Mexico, or at least, Mexican dinners! kelly ...spread the Goo... ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 12 Jan 2000 12:51:10 -0800 To: goo@mailinglists.org From: Sindy Jackson Subject: Two Days in February Message-Id: <3.0.6.32.20000112125110.007a6680@saluki-mail.siu.edu > Ok, this might be a dumb question, but I'm sure everyone has asked a dumb question in their lifetime. I'm being very brief, i know...sorry.... the press release said that the show would be shown throughout the US, so is it being shown in Canada? (#521, 1/14, Annette Benning and Kevin Spacey cover) Nothing worth buying it for, but just thought I'd share. They are mentioning the music scene from 1999 and who was the winners and losers. Under losers, they mention Warner and EMI. Here's what they say: Warner Music group had smashes with Cher and Kid Rock and strong sales from THE GOO GOO DOLLS, Red Hot Chili Peppers, and Sugar Ray - and still bled market share. Perpetually bottom-ranked EMI had even fewer bragging rights, what with the domestic thuds of Robbie Williams and Geri Halliwell and onetime cash cow Brooks running out of milk. -- "Find yourself another soul to hold You think, you thought, I know Off upon my journey I must go To where the river flows." In any case, I in my Goo Mobile came across a used CD store and entered to inquire a question of the owner. When I asked about the First Release, the man said that the last one that they had was a year ago, and he no longer accepts them. He said he does so because they have such a bad rating (i'm assuming from critics) that they never sell. At firsty I was highly offended, but ceased clawing the poor man's face off when I realized just how right he was. The first CD is, by no stretch of the imagination, a great album (which does not mean I don't like it. I mean from a MUSICAL standpoint...no flames, please, my Kevlar long johns were destroyed by the intense flames from my previous disruption). So, if you're ever looking in used CD stores for the first release, keep in mind that they most likely will not have it. Sorry to be so discouraging...just passing along my info.
