The show I went to on Sat was my third time around! I also had my first ever "goo encounter"! My friend (whose also on this list) and I drove 3 hours down to U of I for the show. We arrived at 4:00 and checked into the hotel. Then we went straight to Assembly Hall, even though the concert didn't start till 8:00. As soon as we pulled up, we saw the buses!!!!!!! We just pulled right into the parking lot and walked right up (it was tooooo easy lol). There was a small crowd already assembled there. After a few minutes Robby came out! He said hi to the crowd and apologized that he couldn't stay. He said they were running around crazy setting up for filming. (this show was taped for MP3) While we were waiting, we meet these two ladies who were die hard fanatics. They were super nice. They brought presents for all the guys and told us they had been backstage before. Anyway, about 2 1/2 hrs later (standing in the rain nonetheless!) Mike finally came outside! Everyone was screaming "happy b-day Mike" but he just looked embarrassed! He was walking away when one of the two ladies ran to him and grabbed his arm lol. She gave him his present while everyone else made their way over. We got a pic with Mike out of it =). He seemed more nervous than we were!!!!! About 20 seconds after Mike had left, he came back and mumbled something about being all alone out there and went into the tour bus. Next Nathan came out. The same two ladies just went inside the barricades and grabbed him too. They gave him his present, and he stayed to sign some stuff and we got a pic with him =). It was about 8:00 and we had been standing in the rain for 3 hours! Now thats dedication (or maybe just insanity?!) We decided to finally go in. Fern was just ending their set. Tonic came on and they were pretty good. I really like their music but, like sugar ray, I wasn't impressed with their stage presence. Inbetween sets, we meet a bunch of people from the list. You guys are awesome!!!!!! Hope you had as much fun as we did! The goos finally came on and they kicked ass as usual! Highlights for me include There You Are, Hate This Place, and 2nd Time Around. But by far, my fav thing was A Thousand Words. I really wish they would record that somewhere. Also John told the "walk of shame" story and the lottery joke. He also screwed up on "name". It was kinda funny cause I think he forgot the words!!!!!! He just hummed through two verses lol. Anyways it was sooo much fun and at the end we stood out waiting for the tour bus and saw it leave. =( goo bye goos hoping against hope for a fourth time around -Zareen- PS we meet some security guards while we were waiting. They said that the goos tried to go to Steak and Shake before the show but were mobbed by 13 yr old girls and had to leave. Hope they didn't go hungry =( "A thousand words that no ones spoken Now theres nothin left to say" ~ a 1000 words "I think I'll go out and build me a hut" --livin in a hut "its like fallin backwards into no ones arms and then There You Are!" ~what it said on my t-shirt ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 11 Oct 1999 19:26:55 EDT To: goo@mailinglists.org From: DreamrThts@aol.com CC: jasonr704@yahoo.com Subject: Fwd: INFO ON SAN DIEGO SHOW!!!! Message-ID: <0.befb152c.2533efd0@aol.com> hi, i am kind in a fix here......i am in desperate need of a copy of jed, but am flat broke...for a while! is there any wonderful person here who has jed and would be willing to tape the cd for me if i sent you a cassette tape? a blank tape i can afford, but that's about it. the reason i am asking is because i REALLY want to be familiar with the songs on it (its the only album i don't have yet) when i go to the next two mp3 goo shows by me....ya know, just in case they play one of 'em! (i know i know, it's doubtful cuz its an older album, but u never know!) so, anyone who would do this for me, i will be so grateful! thanx, -diana ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 11 Oct 1999 22:23:39 EDT To: goo@mailinglists.org From: Quickmoon@aol.com Subject: Re: [GOO] *~*John's Birthday Box*~*....type question Message-ID: <0.f9a8b615.2533f5ab@aol.com> My question is...what happens to the presents that we send to people to be collected that don't end up in the Goo's hands...i.e, the person intended to give the box, or whatever to them can't do it or they have to leave or they forget it....do we have any kind of guarantee from all you people that have been collectin' for us...that you'll send our stuff back? Some people already gave the idea of what happened during the show. It was awesome! I actually think it is my best Goo show yet! There was a lot of singing along. At times the whole place was singing, and not just to their recent popular songs! I thought that was really cool! Before the show I got to meet Robby, Mike, Nathan and Dave, everyone but John. They actually stood there (in the rain!) to talk to everyone, take pics and sign things! They were all so nice!!! The security guards were nice too. One asked Robby's girlfriend to get him for us, and she did! I guess we had missed John, the security guard said he was out earlier when they first got to the venue. There were two little kids (4 and 10) there with their mom and Robby was so cute with them! Well, that's it for now! Between the ridiculous prices for CD-Rs and attempts to sell tickets for more than face + Ticketbastard, I'm starting to think all this "I love you guys" touchy-feely stuff is malarkey, or stops when the check clears. I'm on a couple of other music-related mailing lists like this, and NO ONE tries to screw other fans, and, if they try, they're either shouted down or their offers go unanswered--they either lower their prices or go away. I'm proposing we do that here: no one makes a profit. Tickets are sold to other fans for what the buyer paid and whatever it takes to get them to the buyer, PERIOD. Copies of shows are traded, or sold for the price of blank media and postage, PERIOD. None of this $25-for-2-75 cent-CD-Rs crap. The ONLY way this will work is if EVERYONE stops falling for the profiteers. If you pay, they'll keep it up. I understand the zeal to have COOL STUFF-- I've paid more for Springsteen tickets and bootlegs in my life than most of you have yet to earn, but since the fan community banded together on the net, I've had access to better seats at face value and more shows on tape and CD for just blanks and postage than I ever had back in the day. IT WORKS. When someone tries to turn a profit, just say no. More offers like Alex's will come, or we can organize tape trees, as other lists do. Like I told one of the profiteers--who's still trying privately to get me to buy the rationalization and/or get off my soapbox and leave this subject alone now that I've turned over the rock--people who sell bootlegs at profit rip off not only the band but also its fans. That's pathetic, in my book. Maybe this is a minority opinion. Maybe the amount of disposable cash out there is such that paying highway robbery and being screwed by other "fans" is no big deal. If that's the case, that's not how I feel--sorry, I guess. Just my two cents' worth--hopefully someone won't try to sell copies of this post to those who missed it for a buck or two. Not to dismiss this salient point, but considering the widespread practice of bootlegging, the number of actual convictions to date of both bootleggers and retailers selling bootlegs is amazingly teeny-tiny. Don't count on getting preferred customer privileges at your local shop if you ever boast of its collection online--the RIAA keeps ears and eyes open-- but, like scalping, bootlegging's a crime that merits more lip service than SWAT team action by law enforcement officials. ((I think his name's) Clinton Heylin's book Bootleg is the definitive history of the bootlegging industry, although it stops short before the internet had its say in all matters bootleg. The book's worth a look.) It's not, after all, as if they're charging $7.50 or more per ticket on top of an already inflated ticket price, to print and mail tickets to your house after you generate the sale online, with no human interaction once the site is set up and supported. Now THAT should be illegal. Third, I recently bought some flass-type cards of Kanji symbols (Jap. writing) cuss I want to find a symbol meaning 'Harmony' *no luck* ...I bought by accident the 2nd version...but I did come across three of the 6 (I believe) Kanji tatts that John has and here is what they are; the biggest one in the middle means 'love' *sigh*, the one below that and to his right means 'sincerity, trust, communication' *even bigger sigh*, and the one at the top means 'dream' *smile*...I know one of the others means 'self-disipline/hard-work', but I don't know which...and the best pics where you can see these tatts is on the cover of Guitar World Acoustic ;-) Gee, I know I have more to say...but I seem to have forgotton...Oh yes...I just bought 3 more comp. albums and 'Only One Performed' sounds just the same (on the ESPN X-Games) BUT on the MTV buzzbin *good CD* Naked sounds quite diff...a lot slower and perhaps live...does anyone agree/know what I'm talking about, or am I losing it? Thx for responding...I know it gets tuff sometimes ;-) Also, for my calender, I would like to have that rare pic of Johnny with his arms crossed in front of what looks to be some kind of soda fountain/slot machiene??? Anyways, he is wearing a red shirt and I have only seen it once or twice on website(s) of someone on this list...SO, if you have it and wanna work out a trade, I can send YOU an awesome pic you don't allready have ;-) Thank you! Anyone know what 'TBA' stands for on the MP3 tour list??? I know it has something to o with the fact that they are unsure of the date, but still, I'm oblivious to what it stands for...help! (lol) A while back I compiled a list of all the cds that I was 'aware' of...many of you helped me with adding to/editing my list, and I never had the chance to say 'thank you' until now, cuss I just revamped it (ugh, about 30 cds later, I stll got another 30 to go...lol...but it's fun!!!) ....Soooo, a big "Thank You" and ((((hugs)))) for all who took the time to help me out ;-) P.S Anyone know how I can get my hand on VH1 Crossroads? Thx ;-) To all you Canadians above us who patiently and loyally wait for the Goos arrival...hope ya'll had a GOOd Thankgiving (leftover turkey sanwiches are great aren't they?!) and I'll be crossing my fingers for ya!...esp. for Vancouver *wink* Oh, I also recently got my DUTG tab book and for a fraction of the cost cuss my dad's frind owns a music store *grin*, and for those of you who don't play music, it's still def. worth buying...there are several great B&W promotional pics in the first few pages ;-) Ok, ok...enough's enough...I'll stop (for now) lol... Take GOOd care all! ~Forever Goo~ Traci ;-) 'Old Farts' or 'New Farts', it's beginning to stink around here (lol) =-Þ Group hug? Message-ID: <19991012171400.29744.qmail@hotmail.com> Now for my 2 cents.... if anyone cares. (assuming you don't, then delete this) I have bought stuff from people who charge outrageous prices, and those who don't. Here is my deal... if I want something, and I happen to have enough pennies in my jar to buy it, I will. If I don't have the $$, I won't. Simple as that. I know some of the people on this list trying to make a few bucks to go see the Dolls in concert. Is this wrong? I don't think so. If you don't like the price of something, don't buy it! I collected money from about 15 people on this list for Goo merchandise from the shows... people couldn't get stuff cause they didn't have the money when they went to the show, or maybe they were too young to get to the show. I didn't charge a profit... and I SHOULD have. Does anyone know how much huge effort went into that? It took me hours of work to get lists together, the emails out, to update people on thier checks coming in, or not coming in, took me my own money for shipping when people screwed me. It took me lugging around a backpack full of crap at a show where I was trying to enjoy myself. I had to bring an extra suitcase across the country to fit it all! I came home, had to go buy envelopes, postage, get them all addressed, and out. Then the emails from stragglers that didn't send the money... emails about when the stuff would be in and so on. Isn't my time worth anything!?!? I guess not! Still, I got screwed over! I still have some merchandise that I don't want, and I sent something to someone that never paid me!!!!!!! So Bill... what about that? If I have charged a few bucks for my time and trouble, i might not have ended up in the hole, just for being nice. SO... if I want something from you really bad, and you are charging $50 over what it is worth, and I buy it, then it is my own damn fault. Not like you are taking the money out of my pocket, or holding me a gunpoint to buy it. SO there... Whatever that is worth, take it and run with it. I don't care what anyone does with anything. As long as I get the stuff I want, and you get what you want... who really cares? Maybe someone needs the money to go see a goo show... imagine that? If I remember the law correctly, it is okay to make copies that you the consumer are going to use but it violates the law if you distribute that copy. So if you make a copy of a CD onto tape to use in your car, that's okay but if you give that copy to a friend, that violates the law. So even if you are trading bootlegs for bootlegs, you are still breaking the law. I'm not here to preach. I'm just as guilty as everyone else. But in defense of those selling, you have to look at it from a business point of view. It takes time to make copies, wear and tear on equipment.... I'm not trying to justify anything because now morals come into play. As mentioned previously, if people don't believe in it, they don't have to participate in it. As for tickets: Pearl Jam tried. I've given up and accepted Ticketmaster for what it is. But in their defense, they do have expenses (salaries to pay, supplies to purchase and equipment to maintain...) I'm guilty of paying $350 for front row seats but no one forced me to. And if you want me to continue, there are also copyright laws dealing with taking photographs at shows where cameras are not allowed but I'll save that for a rainy day...... Sorry you got burned on this past deal but hopefully you at least got a lesson. Some people are so quick to jump in and call it greed if you charge some one $10 for a $9 poster. Usually these same people who say, why dont you be nice and sell it for cost usually never offer to do the same. It's work making copies, getting concert stuff and what not. Nice is making your friend a copy of the tape not getting 25 people you dont know a tape and then paying for postage. I've had some good luck getting good deals and bad deals but it comes down to if you wanna pay for it, pay. It's ethics to a point but no one here is 100 percent perfect. People tend to rationalize that the things they do wrong are okay and what you do is wrong. From: "Dizzy Girl" To: goo@mailinglists.org Subject: [GOO] Ethics and REALLY COOL PEOPLE! I'm old, you know. Robby did a phone interview with one of the local radio stations and he said that he and his girlfriend were launching a new web site, which they hope to have up on Thurs. It's an official Goo web site. I have no idea if this replaces the Warner Bros. web site or if it's something totally new. He said the address would be GooGooDolls.com, so you guess. I'm too tired. He also said that the city of Green Bay wined them and dined them for three days! Had I known this.......... Well, anyway, Sunday night they went to the Packer game. Good thing they won. Robby also said that they watched "Something about Mary" while they were here. Guess it could be because Brett Farve is in that movie? We checked out the MP3 thing before the show........saw a great band called Fono. Very good.......check them out. It's worth it. Dave was with three girls standing behind me for about 20 minutes checking out the bands too. Didn't want to bother him. He looked very involved in what he was doing. Mike walked by me a couple of times with the lead singer of Tonic and his wife/girlfriend. Didn't bother him either. You say I'm nuts? I say I'm too old to play the fan game. Didn't have the camera on me either, so it would've been pointless. As far as the show goes..........Fantastic. It was the best out of 5 that I'd been to in the last year. Cuz You're Gone.......all I can say is....WOW! I took over two rolls of film, even though you weren't supposed to bring any cameras. Damn that box office lady who said you could! Oh well, one hour photo, here I come. Johnny said before Two Days that he was thinking of buying a couple of blow up dolls, a girl and a guy, to use as props for that song, but he wasn't sure if Green Bay had any adult toy stores. Guess he was in town for three days with his eyes closed. After the show we were looking to meet someone (Goos) but it never happened. Robby did ride his bike around us a couple of times.......kind of looked like Pee Wee Herman on his Schwinn.............very funny. This is a review from an old person.........hopefully someone younger was there and can tell you more. I'm too forgetful. Going back to bed........... It absolutely ROCKED. I was in the 2nd row, and about 7 feet away from John and Robby! Isn't that cool? By the way, this will be a review from an in-between person, not old (or what everyone on the list considers old) and not young, meaning 14-ish. Anyhow, I thought it was great. John and Robby seemed to really be enjoying themselves, and responded really well to the crowd. Robby had no shoes on (what's new?), and was really funny, kept making goofy faces at us. He was singing "Burnin' Up" and I was the only (it seemed) in my area who knew the words, so he kept looking at me and smiling, as if to say "Cool!". He screwed up part of the words, and I kept singing it the right way, and he looked at me, laughed, threw his arms up, and mouthed "Sorry!". That was cool. John told the "Walk of Shame" story, and talked about the Packers, and was really funny and into it. I must say, there was A LOT of pushy people, though. Tonic had to tell everyone to chill out and take a few steps back. Of course that worked for about a millisecond. Quick opinion - I know everyone wants to be in front, but they don't need to get so nasty about it. I was there early, got into the concert right away, and EARNED my spot in the second row. Apparently people don't care. I'm not saying I wouldn't try to get to the front if I wasn't, but I sure wouldn't be such a bitch about it if people OBVIOUSLY didn't want to move for me. Ok, enough of that. I had a blast, and can't wait to see them again. I'm sure I will be waiting for a while, though, those poor guys deserve a long break. That's my take on the awesome concert! We got in the building and they made me leave because i had a camera, and I didn't have a vehicle there because my friends dad drove us.. and so i hid my camera in the bush (good thing nobody took it, i had my pictures of when i met the guys from earlier) I was very mad i couldn't take it in, and so we got back in line and got in, and we were about 5 rows back from the stage which was really cool during tonic but got very rowdy and nasty during goo goo dolls, because some ladies were being very rude and telling us that they were there first (which they weren't, because we were in front of them the whole time, they were just drunk) so anyway, the concert was GREAT besides that and nathan noticed us and did the peace sign like he was doing to us earlier.. and Johnny had great tight pants on lol, and a black tight shirt and was very cool and the awesome thing was at the end of the show, we did this clapping thing after he did his guitar, so that was cool... Robby even had a sucar in his mouth for awhile during the concert. so the show rocked and it seemed like i was the only one around me who knew the words from the very old Cds but still it was fun!! sorry this was so long and if you want to know about anything else just email me =) -Sara, -- 17 ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 13 Oct 1999 14:25:57 -0400 To: Goos list From: Laura Throp Subject: IS Tonic going to be on all the tour stops? Message-ID: <3804CEB3.5652@sprintmail.com> Hey all. I was just wondering. Is Tonic not going to be appearing at all the dates on the mp3 tour? The reason I ask is one of the local stations here in Phx is having an album release party either this weekend or in the next few weekends to celebrate them releasing another compilation CD of artists that agreed to be on the CD for charity.. They are saying that Tonic and Cree Summer will be there performing. The mp3 tour isn't coming anywhere near here so I'm just wondering if they aren't appearing at all shows or if there isn't a show scheduled for that date. I have to work with this guy on a project for history, so we spent the afternoon in the library today, and OH MY GOD, HE'S SUCH A FLIRT. He kept telling me I had a cute nose (i have NO idea), and that I was hot (honestly, that's more creepy than it is a compliment, but anyway). So, maybe he'll ask me. It kinda sux, though, cuz i had the biggest thing for him in 9th grade, and i don't really like him anymore. Cool =) It took us about five hours to get there ( I live in upper MI ). I got to see Lambeau Field for the first time!! ( I love the Packers). Anyway, we waited in the outside line for around and hour and a half, and then Nathan rode by on his bike! It was so cool! Nobody even recognized him - a few people glanced at him, but that was all... I noticed right away, but being the genius I am I didn't say anything..=( Then we found out there was a shorter line inside - along with a second stage where some bands were playing and little stands with free samples of stuff. So we waited in line in there for another hour and a half. Finally we got let in... And guess what! My friend and I got into the front row!!! ( That's the second time I've been in the front row at a GGD concert ). At first, when Fern was playing things were fine and comfortable - as they could be - but once Tonic was on things got pretty bad. Speaking of, Fern and expecially Tonic put on awesome performances... I think I'll be getting some new cds.. When the Goo Goo Dolls came out it got really bad.. But I had the best time! They put on a really great show!! I managed to stay in front the whole time...but it wasn't all that comfortable..by the last couple songs it really sucked.. but I jumped up and down and screamed like hell, nevertheless =) We left right after the concert, so I didn't get to see any guys from any of the bands or anything - but being there was good enough for me!! (We got home around 4 or 5 this morning) I hope I get to go to another Goo show soon!! *Just curious -- did anyone take any pictures?? November 16, 1998 - The 7th House in Pontiac MI: I went to the Ultimate Edge Session last November. You could only win those tickets off of the radio. We won tickets are went. It was at the 7th house in Pontiac. It was a VERY SMALL concert. Me and Sarah got there about 8 hours early because it was general admission, and we wanted front row of course! We were the first ones there...so we walked around Pontiac and went to the coffee house that was right next to the place where the concert was at, they were connected. Before the show, the GGD walked right by me and Sarah through the coffee house and did an interview. Johnny had a baseball hat on backwards. I have pictures of this interview. Finally it was time for the concert to start, and it had already been a long day! Well, the concert was very good. I got a guitar pik that John used. The stage was very small since the place was so small. It was worth the 8 hour wait. December Planet 96.3 Halliday Hootenanny: Not much to say about this one....I didn't have very good seats and the GGD's didn't play for very long anyways. August 9, State Fair, Jackson MI This was the first GGD show of this summer. It was at a state fair, and I had general admission tickets. I thought that general admission tickets were for the WHOLE main floor.....but nope. They were for the SIDES of the place. I had about 8th row. I was close and made my way to front row eventually. That was a very good concert...and I still didn't get to meet the GGD's!!!! August 11, Grand Rapids, MI This was the best concert of all of them. Me and Sarah got had to get a hotel for this one because the concert was pretty far away from where we live. Well, we got to Van Andel Arena and waited outside for about 5 hours because we had general admission. When we first got there, we were the second people there. The 2 other girls that were there had backstage passes to meet the guys and have dinner with them. Plus, they got a private performance also. Anyways, I was very jealous of these girls!!!! I asked them how they won, and one of them said, " My stepmom won them for me" then she said that when her step mom told her, she said, I won you Gaa Gaa doll tickets. I was so jealous...they didn't even know who they were! Anyways.....little did I know that I would get to meet them later on in the day!!! Me and Sarah made a sign while we were sitting there waiting for the doors to open. The sign said, " I WANNA FREAK YOU JOHNNY!" We made this sign because of the Backstreet Boys dream that he always tells about when the backstreet boy wanted to freak him....ect.....well during the concert since we were front row Johnny Rzeznik saw the sign, and GRABBED HIMSELF!!! Right in front of ME!!! It was funny, some people behind me were like, HE SAW YOUR SIGN, HE SAW YOUR SIGN!!! Well, back to waiting in line. As we waited in line, I had to go to the car and get something, so Sarah waited in line while I left. As I was walking to the car, I looked behind the arena and saw a bus pulling up, so I ran over there. When I got there, there were only about 5 other people there. I ended up standing there for about 1 1/2 hours. While I was there, I met Dave, Nathan, and Mike from the GGD's. I also met Murphey and Rodney from Sugar Ray. I got autographs and pictures with all of them. They were all very nice. Well, after the concert we went in back of the arena to wait for them to come out, and Johnny Rzezik finally came out and thru a bag of chips to everyone, you should have seen everybody fighting over them! It was funny. August 18, Pine Knob, MI Well, this show was also very good....I met Nathan again, and I got a hug from him :o) I was so happy. He said that he remembered me from a couple of days ago, ( because I met him in Grand Rapids), and he asked me if the show was ok. I told him it was very good....he was so nice. He's so hot! Anyways....I got another picture with him, that was cool. During this concert, when Sugar Ray was performing, Kid Rock came out, since Detroit is his home town! That sure was a suprise, and the crowd really appreciated it. October 14, Eastern Michigan University: Thats tommorow night!! I can't wait!! October 16, Michigan State University: Two days away!!! And thats it :o( for now...... If you read this far, then mail me with any questions or whatever! Rachel turns 19 and is from Omaha, NE. The craziest goo-related thing she ever did happened just recently, tuesday, 10/5. "my friend and i drove 500 miles round trip, on a school night, to see them in a town i had never been to before. we left as soon as our class was over in the afternoon, got there in time to hang out by the tour buses and meet John and Nathan, then saw the show and left immediately afterwards... and drove 250 miles home in the middle of the night, because we both had a class at 8:30 the next morning! of course it was definitely worth it!!"
