Message-ID: <20000108193851.36858.qmail@hotmail.com> Listen ppl i never really read any of this flaming going on, but something struck me today. Alright, so think about it this way: if john smokes and is able to come up with this wonderful music, wouldn't u be afraid that him quitting would affect his music or singing or something? i know its not healthy and it can kill him and it will affect his voice but like he said he doesn't plan on being a 44 year old goo. *sob* yes i AM concered about his life after-goo but really its his choice and if he chooses to smoke, then as long as he can keep on writing and singing this wonderful goo music for me for now i'll be happy. and another thing-this is about all the arguments going on. this is what happens, someone writes something, someone else doesn't agree. that someone else writes hate mail and for some reasons sends it to the whole list. then other ppl agree with the hate mail and starts this whole chain of hate letters to fill up ppls inboxes meanwhile other ppl that DON"T care about all this stuff r getting stiff fingers from clicking delete too many times. *sigh* isn't this whole mailing list about goo fans getting to talk about goo stuff? then shouldn't all us goo ppl be friends? what do you think the goos would think of us if they saw all the hate letters everyone got? i don't think they'd be too happy that all their fans treat eachother like dirt. alright think about it. do u not agree? and i don't care if u do or dont, just don't reply to this letter (or at last don't reply to the whole mailinglist) to say "i agree" because then ur just adding to the problem. thank u! -Meagan ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 08 Jan 2000 13:54:03 -0600 To: goo@mailinglists.org From: amanda Subject: New WebPage Message-ID: <387795DB.C479F28C@crawdat.com> hey everyone, i just made a webpage of the goo goo dolls so if anyone would like to check it out click on the link below! thanx! Message-ID: Hi. Well here I am a 40 yr old mom writing about the googoodolls. I don't think that smoking is the best thing for anyone, this coming from an ex-smoker (7yrs now) If someone wants to smoke they are going to smoke. You and I cannot do anything to stop it. I really LIKE the googoodolls. I went to their concert in Cleveland, I was right next to the stage. I have seen the behind the music specials on them and the before they were rock stars special on vh1. I can't really explain the reason for why I like them so much, but I do believe it has to do with the songs that John writes. They are so touching. My dad died in August, and we were very close. I just got the Dizzy up the girl cd and listened to it in the car on the way home from the hospital. My dad, like Johns was an alcoholic, but he was a very giving man. Iris at that time was my favorite song because of my dad, but "name" is what I listen to more often now because the song is so true to what John lived. Thanks everyone for listening. ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 09 Jan 2000 09:43:09 +1300 To: goo@mailinglists.org From: Chris Subject: Re: [GOO] John smokes Message-Id: <3877A15D14.D057XTR19633001@smtp.paradise.net.nz> > limited, so maybe he smokes (if we've confirmed he does..) because he just Well, if anyone had bothered to look closely at the stills on my site >from Lee's Palace, Toronto '91, they'd see that in one shot he has a cigarette in his mouth (bottom left) and in another there's a cigarette sticking out his guitar ala Clapton. For anyone who wanted to know about how long it takes to get stuff in: I ordered my stuff via snail mail, and paid with a check. I sent off for my stuff around Dec. 24 th and I got it in about 2 days ago.( that ain't bad, considering the check had to clear and all) But, I only got half my order in, I still have one more thing that hasn't come in yet. I think that the time it takes to recieve an order depends on product availabilty, they have a 1-800 #, so it may not be a bad idea to call and see if they have a product in stock before you order. He was the bassist guitar player for his rock = band called, The Dolls.=20 Well, May and I couldn't be more different, yet were the best of = friends. She was the one with the = peaches and cream complexion and long, soft blond hair with blue eyes = while I was the one with the chocolate-pudding kind of complexion and = chemically relaxed shoulder-length hair and dark, almond shaped eyes.=20 We hung out together constantly and shared similar interests---with the = exception of music. She went for that hard punk sound (Richie's band) = while I went for a sound that just grabbed my attention---which wasn't = Richie's band. Richie and May weren't going together or anything, they = had more or less a brother/sister kind of relationship. But, = nevertheless, she hung out with him pretty much all the time---which = meant so did I.=20 Richie was a real sweetheart. He had the whole long, dark hair look = going for him and a pretty infectious laugh. His smile lit up a room and = he'd do just about anything for a friend. Mitch, the drummer, was the = quiet one---and tall, too. He stood around six foot three and although = was part of the band, pretty much kept to himself. When May introduced = us for the first time at Buddy's, a local club they were gigging at, = they were immediately endearing---with the exception of Johnny, the = guitarist, who was, quite frankly, rude. He didn't even bother looking = at me when we were introduced. Instead, he sauntered over to a group of = girls who were eyeing him all night. Richie, on the other hand, gave me = the warmest smile and actually stuck out his hand for me to shake. But, = then he took the stage with the rest of his band members and began = playing---WHAT, I couldn't tell you! It was all pretty much noise to me! = Richie would belt out words that only May could understand. I would look = over at her and thought I was looking at a stranger. I would see her = rocking her head back and forth violently and think for a moment she was = going into convulsions. The look on my face must've spelled horror = because she would stop and look at me and begin to laugh. "It isn't what you thought it would be, is it?" She yelled over the = cacophony that was coming from the stage. "You could've at least warned me in advance!" I yelled back. "I did! I told you his band was punk rock!"=20 "This is punk noise, May!" "Yeah, but look!" She pointed to the dance area and I saw a swarm of = people gathering at the foot of the stage. It looked like the room began = to swell. Before I knew it, the crowd became a mosh pit and soon I saw = bodies of individuals being carried above people's heads. "They love = it!" May bellowed over the music. I studied the crowd for a few minutes and she was right. The crowd truly = enjoyed Richie's band. It was amazing. But soon the room became stifling = and I needed to get some air. I told May I'd be outside for a few = minutes. She nodded in an understanding manner but never lost the beat = of the music while bopping her head. I had to push my way out through a sea of sweaty bodies. Finally, I = reached the door and took the deepest breath of cold, November air. = Leaning against the brick wall, I closed my eyes for a split second just = to collect my thoughts as the ringing in my ears slowly subsided. "It's crazy in there, isn't it?"=20 Standing next to me, with one hand shoved in his jeans pocket, stepping = side to side while smoking, was this tall, lean guy with a blond Mohawk. = Obviously, he was freezing to death because all he had on was a pair of = jeans ripped at the knees with a long-sleeved black tee-shirt, which, = for some reason he had pushed up showing off his tattooed forearms. = Although not my type straight off the bat, I noticed his kind, blue = eyes. So, not to be rude I answered with, "Yeah, nuts." "Are The Dolls still on?" "Yeah, they're on now." "Cool." He tossed his cigarette butt to the side and went inside. I watched him enter the club and shrugged to myself making a mental note = that he wasn't a bad-looking guy. Realizing that my cheeks were = beginning to freeze, I opened the door to the club being greeted by a = blast of hot air and the pounding beat of Richie's band still on stage. = When I reached the table May and I were sitting at, I noticed that the = guy from outside was sitting in my seat. I stood next to him looking = over at May with a questioning glance. "Iris, this is Jimmy. He's gonna ask Richie if he can join the band." Jimmy looked up at me, and nodded. "Hi again." "You two met?" May looked at Jimmy then at me. "Outside a minute ago." He answered. When he realized I was still = standing he jumped up to give me back my seat. "Sorry." He went to grab = another chair from another table and placed it between May and me. "So, Jimmy," I began. "You play this kind of music also?" "Yeah. I've been coming to this club for awhile and I've noticed The = Dolls right off the bat. I like their sound. So, since I play guitar, I = figured maybe they could give me a shot." Even with him sitting next to = me, he had to lean my way in order for me to hear what he was saying. I = instantly smelled the minty scent coming from his mouth and made another = mental note that at least he was conscious of his breath. It was then the music stopped and we watched Richie and his band members = take bows and wave to the crowd as they jumped off the stage. As Richie = and Mitch made their way to our table I took note of the fact that they = were greeted by the crowd as if they were already celebrities. They = smiled and shook hands with people flattering them with compliments on = how much they enjoyed their music. Johnny managed to stay behind = surrounded by girls that he wouldn't fight too hard to pry himself from. "Hey!" May stood up to hug them. They sat down facing Jimmy, between the = other side of May and me. They looked at Jimmy questioningly but nodded = their acknowledgment. "Richie, this is Jimmy Renzik. Jimmy, Richie Tabak and Mitch Mallory. = Richie, Jimmy wants to join your band." said May.=20 "Really? What instrument?" Richie sat forward showing interest. "Guitar." Jimmy answered calmly. "We've got a guitar player already. Johnny." Richie thumbed back toward = where John was still standing, flirting heavily with the underaged = girls. "Yeah, but he sucks." Jimmy took a swig of the bottle of beer he ordered = earlier. The answer took Richie by surprise as he let out a chuckle. "You're = right. He does." He gave Mitch a glance who, with what seemed to be a = shy smile, nodded his agreement. I looked at the two of them and then at May who looked back at me. I = think we thought the same thing: this was definitely going to work out! The remainder of the night we listened to a few other bands and then = around one-thirty that Friday night/Saturday morning, we left the club = to go to our perspective homes. Richie, Mike and Jimmy made a date to = meet up Saturday afternoon for an audition session and then we = separated, leaving me to drive May back to the apartment we shared while = Jimmy got in his blue Mustang, offering Mitch a ride, and Richie got in = his beat up Dodge van. "So, what'd you think of Jimmy?" Shelly asked me as I drove the fifteen = minutes back to our small, two-bedroom apartment. "He's okay, I guess. Don't know much about him so it's hard to tell." I = kept my eyes on the road because I knew what May was working her way up = to. "He's kinda cute, don't ya think?" I glanced over at her giving her that 'don't start' glare and faced the = road again. See, my last boyfriend had dumped me a few months prior and = May had been back on the match-making routine even though she knew I = hated it. I had told her over and over again that I wasn't ready to get = back into circulation just yet. I was having fun just being my own = person. For some reason, it just went in one of May's ears and out the = other. Fortunately, for both of us, I found a parking spot in front of the = apartment building and as we both got out of the car, May continued = with, "Do you think Richie's gonna let Jimmy into the band?" I ran up = behind her hoping she would be quick about opening the door. The = temperature had seemed to drop by the second. "I don't know! Now open the door before I catch pneumonia!" Closing the door behind us, she went into her bedroom which was adjacent = to mine. Leaving our doors open so we could talk to each other while = undressing and getting into our night shirts and socks, she continued = the conversation. "Personally, I think he's kinda cute." "Who?" I sat at the edge of my bed quickly putting on the thickest socks = I could find in my dresser drawer. My toes felt like ice cubes. "Jimmy, who else?"=20 "Then ask him out." I leaned against her doorway after putting my socks = on. "Well, I was thinking more along the lines of you asking him out." She = gave me that 'please don't be mad at me' look as she placed a finger in = her mouth pretending to bite her nail. I simply rolled my eyes up to the = sky and walked back into my bedroom flipping the covers back as I slowly = slid under the cold sheets. "Oh, come on, Iris, don't tell me you didn't find him even the slightest = bit cute." She stepped into my bedroom, and placed her hands behind her = back, leaning against them, looking at me with a crooked smile. "Y'know what, May, I didn't even really notice him that much. Now, do me = a favor and shut the light off before you close the door on your way = out, okay?" "I'm not done with you yet, little missy." She said in her fake anger = tone as she shut the light off. "Good night, May." I turned my back to her as I threw the covers over my = head. I heard her giggle at my actions as she closed the door. "Good night." ------=_NextPart_000_00BF_01BF5A2A.F48D7220-- ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 08 Jan 2000 22:55:25 EST To: goo@mailinglists.org From: "jenn frankavitz" Subject: Mike's full name?? To a certain extent this is true, however consider my experience with smoking. When I was 17 I spent the summer watching my grandmother slowly, painfully, excruciatingly die of lung cancer in the ICU unit. My grandma was fairly young (63) and gone while I still needed her. I was VERY close to her and I wanted her there for my graduation, wedding, the birth of my children, but I'm cheated out of all of these things, including just having someone I loved so dearly. And I lost these precious moments because when she was 14 she decided to start smoking and continued to do so for the next fifty or so years. Before the doctors had discovered the cancer had spread into her bones, she swore never to smoke again, but by this time she was nearly dead. She spent 40 days in that damn ICU unit and I sat there and watched someone experience pain I never care to witness again. Eventually, she needed so much pain killer, the morphine became the poison that finally gave her a peaceful rest. But, what about me???? Peace had never been so far from my reach. After she died my family and I were left with the void, the pain, excrusiating in our hearts. To die this way may have been a result of her choice BUT IT WAS NOT MINE!!!!!! So, I beg you, if you smoke, please stop. If not for you, the sake of your family. Spare them the pain, spare yourself the pain and the indignity. Imagine the indignity of strange hands stripping you of your gown and washing you as you lie there like a vegtable, incapacitated. I don't have to imagine it, I saw it. The people who love you don't derserve to watch you die like this. I'm not a person who feels it's OK to tell someone how to live there life, however this is one subject that I just cannot hold my tongue about. I would hate to see John or anyone else have to realize that a lot of pain could have been prevented. I apologize if this was preachy and not really Goo related, but I know what I am talking about. I wrote this on behalf of my grandma. I couldn't talk with her at the end, but I know she was sorry. Don't you be sorry too. It's in her memory that I have begged many I know to stop smoking. Don't ignore the truth because truth eventually forces it's way out of your ignorance and painfully so. -A. ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 8 Jan 2000 23:09:52 EST To: goo@mailinglists.org From: JohnsDizzyGirl@aol.com Subject: MTV1515 Message-ID: <71.71188dc6.25a96410@aol.com> Hey all I watched and taped 1515. I want those who ARE enjoying it to just = that....thanks again..... 2 Saturday night pretty much brought a repeat performance of Friday night = where May and I went back to Buddy's to see Richie and give him moral = support. This time there was a difference---a new guitar player---Jimmy. = As they began playing, I not only noticed a height difference between = the two---Jimmy must've stood around 6 feet, while Richie was a mere = 5'8"---I also noticed that there was chemistry between them---more so = than when John was the guitar player and it all fit. They occasionally = looked at each other as if to say, 'yeah, we're workin' and the crowd = seemed to love Jimmy instantly. At one point, Jimmy dove into the crowd = with his guitar with no abandon whatsoever just so sure he would be = caught by the crowd. Everyone went wild. He immediately won the hearts = of all the girls there and after their gig, he was surrounded by a = number of young women freely giving him their phone number and he'd = occasionally get a kiss or two from them as well. I could tell he was = loving every minute of it. After prying himself away from the crowd, he = would come over with Richie to our table and place in front of him a = number of napkins all with different names and phone numbers on them. = Richie looked over at him and from across the table they high-fived each = other laughing a little bit. May and I just shook our heads in that = 'boys will be boys' manner and joined in their laughter.=20 3 Days turned into weeks as May and I watched the progression of The Dolls = grow. From playing at Buddy's they managed to get gigs at other local = clubs and May and I were there every step of the way. We would create = flyers with our computers and color printers and tape them on vacant = walls around the neighborhood as well as traffic light posts and even on = trees. What surprised us was the fact that they were beginning to = actually get a following. From club to club, I'd notice the same = faces---especially the girls; all screaming Jimmy's name and professing = their undying love for him. Yup, he definitely had rock star status = written all over him.=20 That Christmas was a special one. We all were invited to Richie's house = if we didn't have plans of our own and even if we did, he still wanted = us to make an effort to show up. Apparently, he and Jimmy had a surprise = for us. So, what May and I did was do the parent-visiting thing in the = early afternoon; had an exceptionally early "dinner" then opened gifts = and when May called my parents house looking for a quick getaway from me = around 5:00, that's when I grabbed all my gifts, placed them in the = trunk of the car, kissed the folks good-bye, promising them I'd call = more often and then I went to pick May up at her parents' house. From = there we zoomed over to Richie's house where he still lived with his = folks at the age of 23. Driving on Richie's block we knew his house was = jammed packed with company because the only available parking I found = was two blocks away from the house.=20 In his usual jovial style, Richie answered the door all smiles and warm = welcomes. He looked terrific! He wore this white ski sweater with red = trimming and it really accentuated his soft, shiny, shoulder-length = hair. He immediately hugged May and I and told us to take our coats off = so he could hang them up in the hall closet. He then lead us into the = living room where his parents, younger sister, relatives, and Jimmy and = Mitch were. It was such a warm atmosphere with Christmas music playing = on the living room stereo --- something straight out of a Christmas = television special. May and I waved hello to everyone and I watched May = make a bee line straight to Jimmy where she stood on her tip toes to = give him a kiss on the cheek as he stood, leaning against the fireplace = mantle. She turned to Mitch and squeezed his arm. Jimmy smiled down at = her and I saw him mouth the words, "Merry Christmas". Then he looked up = back at me. For some reason when we made eye contact, my stomach felt = weird, all of a sudden. I immediately smiled and broke the connection = making my way over to Mr. Tabac, who was holding out a glass of egg nog = for me. However, I had to admit, that Jimmy did look pretty attractive = in the black turtle neck sweater, sleeves pushed up and dark jeans. The = dark sweater had the same effect on his hair as did Richie's. Except, = his hair was shiny blond and I noticed the Mohawk had disappeared and = was replaced with stick straight hair past his shoulders. It seemed to = make his face softer, more approachable. But, his eyes still had that = mysterious, almost dangerous quality to them---which was why the jury = was out as far as I was concerned as to whether or not I liked him or = not.=20 Mitch seemed to tower over Jimmy as he stood next to the fireplace = holding a bottle of beer. He wore a brick colored knit sweater that his = lean body seemed to swim in and black corduroy pants. His expression always seemed to be wistful as if he were almost = uncomfortable being in his own skin and surroundings even though he'd = been in Richie's band from the beginning---which had been five years. "Okay, it looks like everyone is present and accounted for. Time for = opening gifts!" Richie walked over to the Christmas tree where he sat at = the foot of it next to the abundance of colorfully wrapped gifts in all = shapes and sizes. Looking at him sitting there cross-legged, he had the = appearance of a 10-year-old with the widest grin on his face. "Richie, don't you at least want to offer anyone some more egg nog or = appetizers before we open up any gifts?" His mother chuckled, shaking = her head at her son. "No one wants anything to eat, right? We're all stuffed and we all want = to open up gifts, right?" He looked around the room nodding his answer = to everyone. His younger sister, Jill, let out a giggle at the = expression on his face and then proceeded to sit next to him to begin = passing him the gifts from behind the tree. With the mountain of gifts, it seemed like the unwrapping of them all = seemed endless but within a 90 minute period, everyone seemed quite = pleased with what they had received---including myself. May managed to = get me the red chenille scarf that I'd had my eyes on for quite awhile = and when I wrapped it around my neck, Jimmy commented with, "Red's = definitely your color."=20 "You think?" I looked down at the scarf and then back at him. He slowly = nodded his head as he sipped a cup of hot cocoa. "Yeah, he's right, Iris, red is your color." Jill nodded her approval as = well. "Then consider me the lady in red." I took a hold of one end of the = scarf and flung it around my neck in a lavish gesture.=20 May couldn't stop raving about the 10K gold hoop earrings that I got = her. She immediately put them on and pushed her soft, curly hair behind = her ears to show them off to everyone. "Now, for the real gifts." Richie let out a grunt as he got up from the = floor and gave his sister a hand, as well. May and I looked at each = other and then back at Richie who had looked over at Jimmy and then at = Mitch. They smiled to each other as if there were some kind of personal = joke between them. We followed the three of them downstairs to the basement which had been = turned into a mini recording studio for Richie with the help of his = father. He began pushing buttons and flipping switches and adjusting the = sound to this huge tape player where he pressed the play button. We were = soon listening to a tape that sounded like The Dolls but it was more = professional sounding. We listened to five songs consecutively and then = Richie stopped the tape. "What do you think?" His eyes were gleaming with anticipation. "Who is that?" I asked, totally not understanding what the point was. "Us, silly! The Dolls!" "No way!" May chimed in. "Yes way." Jimmy chuckled. "But, this sounds so professional. Where was this done? It wasn't done = here, was it?"=20 "We've been renting studio time for the past few months now. That's = where we made this demo. This is the finished product. This is what = we're gonna distribute to record labels. These are the first copies = straight off the press...and they're yours." Richie took the cassette = out of the tape machine, placed it back in its case and handed it to me, = then handed another one to May. "Merry Christmas." "Are you guys serious? This stuff is fantastic! Oh, man!" I couldn't = help but give Richie a hug. "Congratulations!" This, I directed to = Mitch. He simply nodded. "So, that means you like what you hear, right?" Richie gave me a bit of = a hug as he let out a chuckle. I noticed the faint glint of humor in his = dark eyes. "Well, yeah. It's different somehow. I can't put my finger on it. What = did you guys do?" "We began experimenting with melodies and harmonies and found that = that's what was missing in our sound. It's still rock but not as punk = and metal sounding as before." Jimmy informed. "All Jimmy's idea. The thing is, it worked!"=20 "Yeah. Now I can actually understand what you're singing!" I commented, = playfully. "You sound like his mom. She said the same thing." Jimmy said. "And, if you'll notice, Daniel, a keyboardist we hired, well, we really = put him to good use. He added a much bigger sound to the music." "I noticed that right away." May jumped in. In her demeanor I could tell = she was trying to impress Jimmy with her musical knowledge---which I = knew for a fact, wasn't all that much.=20 "So, what happens now?" "Well, we keep gigging, but at the same time we begin pounding the = pavement and distributing our demos to record labels. Hopefully one of = them will like what they hear." Jimmy explained to me. "They'd be crazy not to!" May was really pouring it on thick with Jimmy = and personally, it was beginning to nauseate me. "Well," Jimmy shrugged. "We'll see what happens. Keep your fingers = crossed." With that comment, May showed him crossed fingers. I couldn't = help but roll my eyes. I think it went unnoticed, though. Afterwards, we headed back up the stairs to congregate with the rest of = Richie's family members before we eventually made a getaway. Mitch said = his good-byes to the Tabac's and to us because he had to make it back to = his parent's house for more dinner. He never seemed to want to be = included in anything the rest of us did, for some reason. He was more = comfortable in the background. So, the rest of us piled up in Richie's = beat up van, and went for a cruise around the neighborhood. It was a = thing we did every Christmas ever since our friendship bonded. We would = all pile up in whoever had the biggest vehicle at the time, and cruise = around the neighborhood admiring all the houses decorated with colorful, = blinking lights and kid-sized Santas and reindeer perched on front = lawns.=20 "You guys should be relatively comfy back there because I loaded the = back with lots of blankets. There's about six of the heaviest ones I = could sneak out of the house back there, not to mention a comforter = too." Richie eyed Jimmy and May through his rear-view mirror. For a = person who wanted to originally hook me up with Jimmy, May did = everything to make sure she wound up in the back of the van with him and = me in front with Richie. She had been acting really weird that evening. = I made a mental note of making sure to talk to her about that once we = got home. I peered in the back and saw that the back of the van was = hollowed out and seatless. Jimmy sat on one side of the van as May sat = directly opposite him. They bundled up under the blankets and didn't = look any worse for the wear.=20 "It's cool. We'll be fine, right May? Just put the damn heat on full = blast." Richie started up the van and the cruising began. Occasionally, Jimmy = and May would have to prop themselves up on their knees in order to look = out the back windows of the van. Jimmy sat directly behind me so once in = awhile he'd put his face close to mine to look out the same window for a = better view. I had to admit, I sort of enjoyed that. He was soft-spoken = at times and that made me feel like I was softening up to him. Maybe it = was just the holiday spirit kicking in, but I felt my defenses slowly = melting away when it came to him.=20 We drove farther and farther away from Richie's neighborhood into what = seemed like a deserted town. It felt like being in a Christmas picture = postcard. For as far as the eyes could see, there was nothing but trees = covered in snow on both sides of us.=20 "Where are we?" May asked. "I've never been this far out before." "Beats the hell out of me. We're pretty much lost but it's cool. The = scenery's nice." Richie answered non-chalantly. And that's when it = happened. The van began making a sputtering sound. "What was that?" I couldn't help asking. "Yeah, man, what was that?" Jimmy jumped in. That's when Richie looked down at his dashboard and began to let out a = slow, intentional chuckle. "Um, guys," "What?" May asked, all too familiar with the tone in his voice. I looked = over at her and judging by the uplifted left eyebrow, it seemed she knew = bad news was coming. She was right. "We seem to be out of gas." "Oh, man!" Jimmy dropped back on the floor of the van in a slump. "What do you mean, we're out of gas?" May asked, first in a low, calm = tone. I knew what was coming, however. "Richie!" She punched him on the = arm. "We can't be out of gas! We're in the middle of God's country! = We'll freeze to death!"=20 "Always the drama queen." I mumbled, audibly. "Oh, and I suppose you find this to be amusing, right, Iris?" "Well, it does look like we're in a sit-com right about now. Besides, = better to laugh then cry is what I always say. No point in both of us = getting hysterical. You seem to be doing a fine job of that all by = yourself." I leaned back against the door of the van and folded my arms = to keep warm. What little heat was left was slowly evaporating. "And, as if things couldn't get worse, look outside, people." Jimmy was = on his knees now looking out the window. It was beginning to snow. "Why didn't you check the gas tank, Richie? Why did you have to drive so = far out of the neighborhood?" Everytime a question left her lips, she = followed it up with a punch on Richie's arm. "Making my arm black and blue is not going to endear me to your damsel- = in- distress act, May, so cut it out!" He grabbed her wrist as it was = heading for another punch of his arm and she yanked it away from him. It = was beginning to get ugly. I glanced over at Jimmy who, surprisingly = enough, was looking in my direction, and then shrugged. I answered his = shrug with a shrug of my own. "Okay, panicking isn't going to accomplish anything. Besides, all is not = lost." Richie proceeded to reach underneath the driver's seat and pulled = out a gas canister. "Voila! I'll just walk back to that gas station we = passed a few blocks down the road and fill this up and come back. No = problem." He put his thick gloves on and flipped his collar up. "No hat, Richie?" I asked. "Not the hat type." How could anyone resist that wonderful, adorable = smile of his. Even in that predicament, he still managed to find = something to grin about. "Well, to make sure you don't screw even this up, I'm coming with you." = May began opening the back doors of the van. "May, I'll be fine. You stay here." I was beginning to hear notes of = annoyance in Richie's voice. "Let me come with you, man." Jimmy started to open the back door of the = van. "Nah, I'd rather you stay with the girls. I'll be fine. It's only a few = blocks back." "Hey, Mr. Genius, how much money do you have on you?" May asked = sarcastically. I saw Richie take a pause and then he turned to her, "All right, come on = then!" May nodded, knowing Richie all too well and jumped out the back = of the van, closing it tightly from the outside. Now it was just Jimmy and I. We both watched the two of them walk back = to the gas station as the snow began accumulating. "Hope they make it back in time before the snow gets crazy." I = commented. "I was thinking the same thing." ------=_NextPart_000_0111_01BF5A2E.85F22E60-- ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 8 Jan 2000 23:50:18 -0500 To: From: "Nancy Casseus" Subject: THE DOLLS---CHAPTER 4 Message-ID: <016a01bf5a5d$07f1aac0$6d80173f@default> ------=_NextPart_000_0167_01BF5A33.1E183C80 Content-Type: text/plain; charset="iso-8859-1" Content-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable OH, and in case any of you decide "borrowing" this story----eh eh eh! no = no no! no can do! it's being copyrighted so don't even THINK about it, = okay? I hold ALL the rights to it! Just continue to enjoy it! And, I = hope you ARE enjoying it! 4 So, okay, here we were, just Jimmy and I in the van --- alone. Freezing = our asses off. For the longest time there was nothing said between us. I = guess he must've felt the same way about me as I did about him---he = wasn't quite sure whether he liked me or not. That would explain the = strange looks I caught him giving me from time to time. Maybe he was = sizing me up. Maybe it was a color thing---I don't know.=20 "You don't like me very much, do you?" Was he psychic? I couldn't = believe he broke the silence with that question. "What?" I turned my body sideways, stretching my legs out on Richie's = seat. "You heard me. You don't like me, do you? Is it because I'm white?" "What? I don't know you well enough to like you or not, and race has got = nothing to do with it!" I tried feigning calmness even though my heart = began to pound. God knows what he had in mind. He could've snapped at = that very moment and wanted to kill me for all I knew. "Okay. Fair enough." He flipped up the collar of his leather jacket, = covered his legs with a blanket and folded his arms, hugging himself to = keep warm. Silence fell between the two of us once again. This time it was me who = broke it. "What made you ask me that anyway?" "Just a vibe I got off of you, that's all." "Well, I got the same vibe from you, too." I sat back, pouting. Right = then I felt like I was five years old all over again because that's all = I could say at that moment and it even came out of my mouth sounding = like a child! "Well, like you said to me a minute ago, I don't know you well enough to = like you or not." "Uh huh," I replied with a see-I-told-you-so tone. "But I'd like to." I propped myself up to look over at him. He kept his head down with his = hair covering his face and it looked like he was sleeping. He seemed to = sense I was looking at him and that's when he popped his head up tossing = his soft, blond hair away from his eyes. I quickly sat back leaning = against the van door so we could be out of each other's sight. For some = reason I felt cornered and I noticed my heart racing. Just then without = warning I let out a loud sneeze. It seemed to come from deep in my gut. "God bless you." "Thank you." "You better get back here. It's a little warmer with all these = blankets." "No, that's all right. I'm fine." As if the gods were against me, I = sneezed again. "I don't bite, y'know. Come back here and try to stay warm." He said = with quiet emphasis. I soon found myself climbing into the back of the van and sitting = opposite him. He helped me cover up my legs as I wrapped the top-half of = myself with the thickest blanket I could find.=20 "Better?"=20 "Much." I replied, tightening the covers around me. Just then I realized = our left legs were touching each other as his were outstretched next to = me and mine were outstretched next to him. He didn't seem to mind so I = kept them there. Just then, I felt a sneeze beginning to erupt inside of = me and this time I tried to muffle it's sound, to no avail. The sound = that came out of me sounded like a high pitched squeak. "You're not catching a cold, are you?" He propped his head up. The look = in his eyes were of concern. I shook my head just as two sneezes = back-to-back spewed out of me. "Oh, man."=20 I looked up to find him crawling on all fours toward me to situate = himself next to me. He took a hold of a couple of other blankets and = covered the both of us from our heads to our backs and while underneath = the cover he wrapped one arm around my shoulder pulling me closer toward = him. "I'm fine, really, I---" "Oh, shut up. You're not fine. You're beginning to catch a cold and the = last thing I need is to not be able to sing because of your cold. So = just keep quiet and let our body heat do the rest." "So, this is purely for your benefit, right?" I turned to look at him, = not realizing just how close we were. Our faces were literally inches = away from each other and that's when I caught a glimpse of the firm set = of his jaw and those intense blue eyes. "Look, don't make me out to be some selfish bastard, all right? I'm = doing this for both our sakes." "All right, all right, no need to bite my head off!" There was no way I = was going to let him have the last word! He replied with pulling me = closer to him, this time rubbing my arm to keep me warm. I found myself = not objecting to his actions which even surprised me. As I became more = and more sleepy, my head found Jimmy's shoulder as a pillow. This time = he didn't object to my actions and that's when I relaxed and soon went = limp with sleep. The next thing I know I hear the back door opening up and May's laughter = filtering through as she climbed inside the van. I opened my eyes to = find her kneeling in front of me with a smirk on her face. I lifted my = head from Jimmy's shoulder---looked at her---then at him----then back at = her. "How long was I asleep?" "About 30 minutes." Jimmy continued to rub my arm which explained why I = wasn't that cold anymore. "Richie's filling the tank with a couple of dollars of gas. Should be = enough to get us back home." May rubbed her mittened hands together = cupping them to her mouth and blowing warm air into them. I couldn't = explain that impish glint she had in her eyes. "Let me see if Rich needs any help." Jimmy removed his arm from my = shoulder and just as he was about to exit the van through the back, he = turned to me and asked, "Are you all right?" "Um hmm." was all I could respond with. He threw the covers to one side = and hopped out of the van closing the door behind him. I got a chance to = look outside before the door closed. The snow must've been four inches = deep. "So..." May lilted in that I-know-you've-got-a-secret-to-share tone. "So, what, May?" I sighed, really not in the mood to play games. My body = was beginning to miss Jimmy's warmth next to me. "Last I saw, you were sittin' up front next to Richie's seat and when we = come back, you're all snugly with Jimmy's arm around you and you're = sleeping on his shoulder. What's that about?" "I was sneezing and he offered to keep me warm. End of story." "Are you sure?" She wasn't about to let this go. She was like a dog with = a bone. "No, May, there is one more thing. As of right this second I'm carrying = Jimmy's love-child!" You'd have to be extremely dense to miss the = sarcastic tone that left my lips at that point. With that she made a dismissing gesture with one hand and climbed to the = front seat where I originally sat. It was soon afterwards that Jimmy = climbed back into the van and Richie climbed back in the drivers' seat = with the simple words, "Let's rock and roll." He started up the van. = Nothing.=20 "Come on, baby..." I heard him mumble. He turned the key a second time. = Nothing. "You did just put gas in the tank, didn't you?" May just had to say = something. Richie chose to ignore her and turned the key once again. = This time it revved up and we all breathed an audible sigh of relief. As = Jimmy situated himself across from me once again, it was nice knowing we = were on our way back home. ------=_NextPart_000_0167_01BF5A33.1E183C80-- ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 8 Jan 2000 23:56:53 EST To: goo@mailinglists.org From: Ag00stic@aol.com Subject: Re: [GOO] Goo Fiction.....(PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE READ THIS!! -DOROTHY) Message-ID: I wanted to reply to the whole list about this because Nancy's story it absolutley FABULOUS!! i'm not kidding! But that's all you'll get for now....I'm beat! = Tomorrow's another day....can't wait to see how many e-mails I get then! = Hope they still remain positive! Good night all...and enjoy! 5 Christmas fell on a Sunday that year so it was nice knowing we had = Monday all too ourselves. May and I were in no hurry to go back to the = radio station where we worked as Sales Assistants. It really did seem we = did everything together. But, I had to admit, had it not been for her, I = wouldn't have gotten the job at the station. She put in a good word for = me once one of the other Sales Assistant's quit and I came in for an = interview the next day and that following Monday I got the job!=20 But on that particular Monday it seemed like May could hardly wait for = me to wake up. She kept peeking her head in the doorway and closing it = when she thought I was sleeping. When I couldn't take it any longer, I = said, "Oh, what, May? What do you want?" "Sorry, but I could hardly sleep last night knowing that you and Jimmy = were alone in the van for so long. What'd you guys talk about?" "Unbelievable." I rolled my eyes upward while shaking my head. "Well, inquiring minds wanna know. So, dish!" She plopped herself at the = end of my bed. "In a nutshell, he wants to get to know me." "Ooooh, this could lead to something." She rubbed her hands together as = if she were scheming a plan. "Whatever's in your head, May, just forget it." I brought my knees up to = my chest to swing them around May and off the bed. I padded off to the = bathroom to brush my teeth. As I was about to close the door on her, I = reopened it remembering something. "Oh, and what was up with you = yesterday? You were all over Jimmy like you'd been going together for = years. What's up with that?" "Jealous?" she remarked coyly. "Oh, hell no!" And with that I closed the bathroom door on her. When we both were dressed, we made a date to have brunch. But before = going to the restaurant, May wanted to swing by Buddy's to see if the = guys were rehearsing for that night's performance. Sure enough, they = were and as I followed her into the club, I rolled my eyes as I spotted = Jimmy on stage with a guitar slung around his shoulder and a cigarette = in his hand. "Hi guys!" May lilted happily. "Hey, our number one fans! What's going on?" Richie always seemed happy = to see us. His face always seemed to light up. "We're on our way to have brunch. Wanna join us?" It was at this point Jimmy and I locked eyes and he simply nodded his = acknowledgment to me as he blew smoke upward from the cigarette. "Well, we're in the middle of rehearsing for tonight. But, we're almost = done. Where will you be? Maybe we can meet up with you." May looked over at me for an answer. "At the mall, most likely, right, = Iris?" I shrugged my shoulders and then nodded. "I guess." "Okay. What say we meet you in front of water fountain on the first = floor of the mall near JC Penney's. Is that all right?" Richie looked = over at both of us. We nodded our approval. "Jimmy, you're coming, right?" May asked. I looked over at her and she = had a look of pleading in her eyes. "Yeah, I'll be there." "Excellent!" She actually clapped her hands as if she were a five year = old. We left soon afterwards and headed off to the mall. 6 "You're gonna try turning this into some double-date, aren't you!" I = glared at May, as I sipped the last of my iced tea. "What are you talking about?" She asked, wide-eyed as she proceeded to = avoid my eyes. "May, we've known each other for what seems like forever. So, by now, = I'd think you'd know when I don't like being set up by now." "Who's talking about a set up, Iris? It's the guys! You know, the guys = we see at the club practically every night. The guys we've hung out with = since like forever." "Yeah, with one slight change. There's a new sheriff in town and his = name's Jimmy." "So what? He's a nice guy and just because we're hangin' out together = that doesn't mean we're coupling up." But I knew that glint in her eye all too well by now. She couldn't help = playing Little-Miss-Matchmaker! She had something up her sleeve and I = just had to find out what it was.=20 After brunch we strolled toward the water fountain where, to our = surprise, the guys were standing waiting around. I witnessed Richie = whispering something close to Jimmy's ear and Jimmy doubling over in = laughter. He was so unaware of the captivating picture he made when he = smiled. Seeing him this loose made me relax a bit even though at the = time I never realized that I tensed up everytime I was around him. May shuffled over to Richie extending open arms to wrap around his waist = as he kissed her forehead. I just stood there staring at the water = dancing inside the fountain.=20 "How'd you guys get here so fast?" May asked looking up at Richie. "As soon as you left we pretty much were done and so we put our = equipment away and headed over here." "Iris, how's that cough coming along?" Jimmy asked me out of the blue.=20 "Better. I'm fine now, thanks." "Cool." he nodded, then tossed his head back to sweep the hair away from = his eyes. Those blue eyes. Those intense, intimidating blue eyes! We began strolling around from store to store as I noticed May staying = closely next to Richie as they walked ahead of Jimmy and I. She was = trying to hook us up! She could be so transparent, sometimes! I chucked = the whole idea of being set up and just decided I was going to have fun. = So, since I was in cosmetics mode, I managed to stop at practically = every cosmetics counter and buy a lipstick here, a lip gloss there, and = a few lipliners.=20 "You know you don't need all that junk, don't you?" Richie looked at me = as if he were my father.=20 "Is that some backwards compliment, Mr. Tabac?" I let out an amused = chuckle. "Nothin' backwards about it. You have flawless skin and you don't need = to cover it all up with that stuff."=20 I looked over at May as I walked up to Richie wrapping my arms around = him. "I love this guy! Thank you, Rich." "I mean it," he gently pulled me toward him for a nice, warm hug. = "You're beautiful the way you are." "Ah, men know very little as to what makes us look this natural, don't = they, May?" She nodded and responded with, "Men know little of everything. It's just = a fact of life." With it being winter, it got late early so we headed out of the mall. = May insisted on walking with Richie to get the van while Jimmy and I = stood waiting. "We need to stop meeting like this." Jauntily he cocked his head to one = side. "Yeah, I know what you mean." I found myself smiling at his attempt at = humor. As I took a good look at him I noticed that, as blustery as it = was, his leather jacket was unzipped and it was obvious he was freezing = by the way he was stepping from side to side with his hands in his = pockets. It was as if a force took over as I found myself walking over to him to = zip his jacket up and tug at his collar. "There! Now you won't catch a death of cold." As I tugged at his collar = once again, I noticed he just let me do what I was doing without = question. I felt him just looking at me. I avoided his eyes as I = continued to make sure the jacket was fully zipped and the collar stood = upright. Then I looked back at him. "What?" I let out a nervous laugh. "Thanks, mom." There was a trace of laughter in his voice as he held a = steady gaze. "Well, afterall, your voice is your livelihood. Wouldn't want to = jeopardize it, would you?" "It's not my livelihood yet. But thanks for your concern." As I backed away Richie's van pulled up in front of us. From the = passenger's seat I saw the questioning look on May's face. Her eyes = darted from me to Jimmy back to me again. Jimmy opened the back door for = me to get in first and after he securely locked it from the inside, = Richie asked, "What say we all grab a bite. I'm starving." "Yeah, I'm hungry, too." Jimmy seconded the motion. So we headed toward a diner and once we were seated I noticed the = seating arrangements. May next to Richie and me next to Jimmy. But to my = surprise I felt comfortable even though our thighs touched under the = Formica table. We basically ordered the same thing, hamburger and fries and the = conversation was fun and full of laughter. It was that evening I = realized how dry a sense of humor Jimmy had. It was rather amusing, = actually. He was well-spoken and at times he would make a remark and I'd = have to see the twinkle in his eyes to know whether he was pulling my = leg or not. There were times he made me feel so gullible. But it was all = in jest and everyone knew it.=20 The mood among us was festive and we didn't want it to end so we wound = up going to a movie afterwards. It was a popular one and as we walked = into the theater, we noticed it was packed so we had to separate. Once = again, May found a seat next to Richie up front while Jimmy and I = squinted our eyes adjusting to the dimming of the lights as the coming = attractions began. Jimmy spotted two seats in the farthest corner and = took a hold of my hand to guide me.=20 "Did you want some popcorn or something to drink?" He whispered to me in = a low murmur. I looked over at him not realizing how close he leaned toward me but to = my own astonishment, I didn't recoil. I just looked into his eyes and = shook my head. We finally settled into our seats after taking off our = coats and I sat with my arms folded and legs crossed ready to enjoy the = movie. Occasionally, I noticed Jimmy looking over at me and when I = couldn't take it any longer, I turned to him and said, "What?" "Nothing." "No, what? You keep looking at me. Why?" "Well, you just look so closed up and on the defensive sitting like = that." "What do you mean?" I gave myself the once over. "Look at you. You look all uptight. Relax, we're in a movie theater. I'm = not going to attack you---at least not right away." I heard the humor in = his tone. "I am relaxed and I know you won't attack me now. But maybe later." I = looked over at him giving him a crooked smile, showing him that he = wasn't the only one with a sense of humor. But, after I made the = comment, I thought to myself: Am I flirting with him? I quickly = disregarded the thought and returned my focus on the screen.=20 The movie wound up being three hours long but didn't seem it. As the = credits rolled I began shrugging my coat back on, getting ready to = leave. Not realizing it, my scarf fell on Jimmy's foot and he picked it = up for me. However, instead of handing it to me, he threw it around my = neck and in doing so, pulled me closer to him. His eyes seemed to be = peering at me intently. Holding onto the scarf around my neck as I = looked into his eyes, my whole being seemed to be in waiting. For, what = seemed like an eternity, I didn't want to tear my attention away from = him. In one forward motion, he kissed the tip of my nose and my body = tingled from the contact. I watched him suddenly stand up as the lights = in the theater gradually were turned on fully and I sat there blank and = amazed. "Ready?" He shrugged his leather jacket on looking at me as he zipped = himself up. "Uh huh." Was all I could muster. It really stunned me at how cool he = was. He turned to locate May and Richie as people were emptying the theater. = As he spotted them, he turned to me and said, cocking his head in their = direction, "They're waiting for us." Like an obedient child I got up from the seat and followed him in their = direction. I felt like I was walking in a fog. He did just kiss me, = didn't he? I mean, my nose, at least, right?=20 "Iris? Hey, earth to Iris!" May was waving her hand in front of my face. = I finally focused back on her. "What?" "I was asking you whether you liked the movie or not. Where'd ya go = there?" She gave me that puzzling look of hers when she didn't = understand what was going on. I couldn't answer her because I didn't = know what was going on. I looked over at Jimmy and realized there was a = tense but secret expression on his face. It was hard to read him and my = insides were feeling all jumbled and confused. I looked back at May. = "Yeah, I liked it a lot." "You okay, Iris? You look like you don't know where you are." Richie = came to stand next to me and put his arm around me in concern. I looked = up at him as I felt my face flush slightly. I avoided his eyes by = pretending to adjust my scarf.=20 "Yeah, I'm fine. Just tired I guess." "Then home we go." He gave me a slight squeeze. On the ride back to our apartment, May and Richie dissected the movie = with it's implausibilities. I sat silently in the back while Jimmy = offered his opinion every so often. It just astonished me how he acted = like nothing had happened. But then, maybe it was me. Maybe I was making = a big deal out of nothing. It wasn't like some passionate embrace; it = was just a peck on the nose! But, the stunned feeling I was experiencing = I simply couldn't shake!=20 When Richie stopped in front of our apartment, I hopped out from the = back of the van and as I passed him on the driver's side, he reached out = and stopped me by the shoulder. "Are you sure you're all right?" He looked at me with concerned eyes. "Yeah. Just need some sleep. I'll be fine in the morning." I tapped him = on his hand, giving him the 'no need to worry about me' look. From the = look on his face, he didn't quite believe me but was willing to drop it = for now. It was then I realized how intuitive Richie was with people. = Walking in front of the van, and up the sidewalk, I saw Jimmy talking to = May. He turned to me then back at May and waved goodnight to her. As we = passed each other, he added in a lower, huskier tone, "Good night." He = held out my bag of cosmetics on his index finger.=20 "Thanks." I gently unhooked it from him. I turned to watch him get in on the passenger side of the van and waved = at them as Richie drove away. I didn't realize I was still standing = there as the van had driven away from my view. It was May's voice who = snapped me back into focus. "Coming in or are you just gonna stand there?" She was holding the door = open for me. I turned to her as I took the stairs two at a time. Passing her, she = asked me, "What's with you tonight?" Not answering her, I briskly walked into my room and closed the door = behind me. I wasn't ready to answer questions that I, myself, couldn't = answer. ------=_NextPart_000_0194_01BF5A35.F9CB9AE0-- ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 8 Jan 2000 22:26:08 -0800 (PST) To: Tracy0924@aol.com, goo@mailinglists.org From: "Ms. Swan Lake" Subject: Re: [GOO] Johnny and wife? These are the rules for this = list that is owned ($100.00 per year) by Bryan. If you don't agree to = the rules, then actions will be taken. Too many people are straying from = the true meaning of what the list is for, Goo information. Information = about concerts, meetins, albums, ect. It is not for 100+ posts if John = still smokes, since if he does what are any of us going to do about it? = If something is posted, think before you post it, "Is this information = going to be beneficial to the list? Do people want to here about this?". = It is not about slamming other list members, poetry or stories, or other = bands. It is about the Goo Goo Dolls. I have been with Bryan helping him = moderate this list since way back when. We have well over 600 people on = it right now and there is no way that we are going to put it on full = moderate. Basic reason, we have lives and don't want to read and = validate over 100 posts a day in addition to our other mail and duties. = So basically, the list of guidelines are made so that we don't have to = do that and that people that sign up on the list agree to these very = simple guidelines and they get the most Goo information possible. The = reason for this posting is that I recieve about 10+ posts every time the = list goes rampant on another topic. Basically that means about every day = or so I get it, and I'm sure Bryan does too. So to make it simple, I = have attached the guidelines below this little paragraph. Please do such = a small part and read it and then follow it. The list is getting too out = of control and I'm sure a lot of you would not like to see it go. No = response is needed to this letter, just try to conform to it, and not = make me post it like I have been doing about every month. And I am not = singling out any person. I am doing this in response to the amount of = letters that I have recieved in this week alone. So don't make me out to = be a bad guy. Ask anyone that knows me, I'm not a bad guy :) jOegOo joejr@pce.net GooGooDollsOnline www.pce.net/joejr List Moderator Now here are the guidelines, aka RULES of the Goo Goo Dolls Mailing List List Policies for the Goo Mail List on mailinglists.org=20 Well, now that the list is automated, and discussion is on the rise, = there is a need to put a set of guidelines in place. This was never a = problem before when the list was "hand forwarded," because the messages = were only forwarded once a day. This, of course, slowed down discussion, = and limited the number of messages each day. Well, now with the = opportunity to have 30+ messages per day, it is even more important that = we keep the messages focused on the task at hand, the Goo Goo Dolls. = Please read on: (Whether or not you read this, you will be responsible = for its contents if you wish to remain on the list.) Greetings! As a listowner for the Goo Goo Dolls Mail List -- I've = realized that a need for a set of guidelines would be beneficial to keep = the list focused. These policies are to be followed if you wish to = remain the list. They are mostly geared towards preventing unnecessary = wear and tear on the machines or to prevent unnecessary and pointless = flamewars. Willful violation of any of these policies will result in my = asking you to apologize to the list within a certain set time; failure = to do so will result in your banishment from the list. The URL for this = particular page will be available at all times via the list = message-footer.=20 ON MESSAGE RELEVANCE Okay, this has always been the big bugaboo. What defines what makes a = relevant list post?=20 Really, folks, I tend to take the simple approach on this. Why did you = subscribe to the list? Why, to talk about the band in question. That's = why we're all on the list. And as listmembers, we presume that the = discussion we're going to find on any particular list will relate to = that subject matter at hand. We all know this and should respect this.=20 What exactly can define relevance to any particular band? Well, here's = where things can get sticky, as I freely admit. Consider what earlier on = the list with the MTV Music Awards. Everyone was talking about how = excited they were about the Goo Goo Dolls being nominated for the City = of Angels movie. Then, somehow, the discussion drifts off of the topic = and we're talking about R & B / Backstreet Boys. Now, people are = disagreeing and tempers are flaring up. This just drives people away = from the list. You can talk about the R & B on other newsgroups and = forums. Therefore, such discussion should really go there, and not clog = up the Goo list!=20 Another addition to the relevance category would be one line posts. = Please do not post messages that say, "Welcome." or "Glad to have you = aboard" when some one posts that they are new to the list. This isn't = Wal-mart, so we don't have a greeter at the door. The problem with this = is that we have to much private mail floating around on the list. If you = want to welcome someone to the list, send it privately to them...200 = other people don't care to see it. Those are some particular examples. The lists are unmoderated, and I = will not approve every message sent; that would be a bother. But you = should always ask yourself, "Hey, is what I'm about to say going to be = of interest to the list as a whole?" Obviously, you can't read = everyone's mind collectively on this -- I often suggest lurking for a = bit and seeing how the general course of list discussion goes.=20 Relevance is very important regarding the differences in tastes we all = have. If you're on the Goo list, the one thing, the ONE thing you can = assume about everyone else is that they're all also interested in the = Goo Goo Dolls. To criticize or belittle someone else because of their = tastes beyond what a list is for is pretty gauche anyway, but to do it = via the list is beyond the pale. Don't do it.=20 If you'd like to talk with list folks about things not related to the = list subject at hand, then you are always welcome to post a one-off = message to see if there are others interested in this other thing, and = to ask them to write you back PRIVATELY. It's that simple. The same rule = applies to any polls you want to carry out -- if you'd like to survey = the list on something, okay, but clearly ask that all responses to such = polls be sent privately to you and not the list. Thanks!=20 Having said all this, one more note -- I tend to be much more watchful = of non-list subject threads. This is because the list is so busy already = that off-topic posts already add to a hefty daily mail load. Just a = note!=20 And one more thing as well -- it's just bad in general to write back = responses to a list message by quoting the whole message, especially if = it's really long, and simply adding, "I agree!" at the end. If you do = that, expect some private messages from me about it! It's a bad habit = you really want to break.=20 ON POLITENESS Essentially, this is the key thing about lists. As you're all aware one = way or another, the Net, while definitely a wonderfully free place, is = at times a place of sublime obnoxiousness, with insults and flames = flying hither and yon. Disagreement and differing opinions are wonderful = things; pointless insults and 'attitude' are not.=20 These lists are not your private insult playground. They are public = forums, unmoderated by myself, and you are always more than welcome to = say what you wish to say. However, starting -- OR continuing -- a = flamewar where you bring down the level of discourse to a series of = pointless insults between yourself and whoever else is out there is not = to be tolerated.=20 If you want to attack another person privately, hey, whatever turns you = on. I obviously do not nor cannot nor will not monitor private exchanges = between list members, and if certain people are attacking each other = behind the scenes, as it were, then that's your business. However, = turning such a private disagreement public is really bad. Even more = obnoxious is the posting of specifically private mail to a list -- that = is a clear violation of Netiquette, of trust, and much more besides. Do = not do this, period.=20 ON SOUND FILES, PICTURE FILES, CHAIN LETTERS, VIRUS WARNINGS AND = PROGRAMS Do not, do NOT, do not EVER post such attached files or letters to the = list you are on. It is that simple. Also, majordomo is set up to reject = any messages over a certain size limit. Why? There are many reasons. First, it slows down machine effectiveness = in delivering mail. But second and most critically, you are blowing out = mailboxes all over the world. Essentially, you are sending a huge file = to all the list members. Now, not all the list members have gigabytes of = spare memory space. They might even be charged by the amount of memory = messages take up. They could have slow modem connections which combined = with a program that doesn't allow you to halt delivery of a file could = mean literally hours of downloading time. Especially beautiful is when = you send around a file or program viewable only in a Windows or a Mac = environment -- meaning all of those using the other system will be stuck = with a useless file on top of everything else. Chain letters, while = nowhere near as hefty as a program can be, are still annoying clutter = under any name; personally I hold them on the same level as yer usual = sound files and the like in terms of worthiness and desirability.=20 As for virus warnings, after literally years' worth of warnings about = 'Good Times' and other similarly pseudo-viri which exist only to confuse = newcomers to the net and to annoy everyone else, I have yet to encounter = one such warning that was legitimate; it's very likely that'll be the = case with you too. Here's a tip -- if it talks about how the mere act of = reading a message will cause your hard drive to explode, or something = similar, then you're dealing with a message so bogus it makes The Weekly = World News and The Sun seem like the avatars of truth and enlightenment. = Don't forward them unless you want to tick everyone else off.=20 Do you wish to share a nice file or program? It is very simple -- do one = of two things. Either offer to send it privately to those who ask or = make it available for downloading via the Web. That's all you have to = do. Must you send a chain letter you are absolutely sure needs to be = sent? Contact me with the text of the letter and I'll suggest a more = appropriate place to send it -- even if it is somewhere like alt.spam. = Got a virus warning and feeling the fear? Write me with the text of it = and I'll tell you why you shouldn't worry.=20 Violation of this policy, unlike the other policies here, will result in = being IMMEDIATELY kicked off the list once I find out about it.=20 ON SUBSCRIBING AND MAJORDOMO AND ALL THAT With the improvements in majordomo that have now been carried out, lots = of past problems have been fixed. =20 If at any time you do have questions regarding the functions of = majordomo, or somehow have problems unsubscribing, you may always write = me directly at penberth@mindspring.com.=20 CONCLUDING THOUGHTS Future policy additions will appear as needed. Personally, I think the = less that needs to be said and remembered, the better!=20 ------=_NextPart_000_005A_01BF5A47.705A30C0-- ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 9 Jan 2000 02:54:29 EST To: goo@mailinglists.org From: Goos182@aol.com Subject: goo goo dolls ( nothing about cigarettes in here) Message-ID: <1c.1c25bac4.25a998b5@aol.com> hi! i was at a restaurant yesterday and i was listening to the conversation of the people who sat behind me. Message-ID: <20000110002241.60449.qmail@hotmail.com> hey everyone!! i'm lookin for a couple of things, so if any of ya have any of this, could ya please email me back? thanks!!! 1st~~if anyone has ALL of the GOO music videos on a really good quality tape that they'd be willing to sell to me please let me know!! 2nd~~i'm still looking for bootlegs of both the Aug.11 show in GR and the Oct.16 show at MSU. i know someone out there has to have at least one of these! right?? ...please, someone..anyone...? 3rd~~there have been a lot of posts from people who are looking for GOO posters. sadly, i am one of those unfortunate people who don't own any yet. )= so if any of you just happen to have an extra poster lying around somewhere that you'd be willing to sell to me i'd really appreciate it!!! o.k. i think that's it!! oh hey, does anyone wanna let me know what Dave's, Nathan's, or MIKE's middle names are?? especially MIKE's!!! i have been asking about his forever and no one seems to know!! i'm starting to think he doesn't even have one... and as long as i'm posting i just thought i'd add this sightly-less-than-interesting piece of info. but i still thought it was kinda cool. yesterday i sorta forced my dad into listening to DUTG, and he actually liked it! (which is really surprising cuz he never likes any of the music i like) in fact, this morning i actually caught him singing January Friend in the shower!!! hmm...o.k. i dunno if that's scary or cool. i dunno it was just weird! but cool that of all songs he was singing a Robby song!!! yea!! (Robby is of course my fav.) :) yeah o.k. i promise that's it now!! and if you're still reading this then i feel really sorry for ya, but thanks!!!! MuCh GoOieNeSs!!! **Nikki** ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 9 Jan 2000 18:30:52 -0600 To: From: "aimee" Subject: hey Message-ID: <008e01bf5b01$f4d72aa0$af0583d8@ebicom.net> ------=_NextPart_000_008B_01BF5ACF.A8E56800 Content-Type: text/plain; charset="iso-8859-1" Content-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable go to my site ive updated it and put=20 more pics http://www.oe-pages.com/ARTS/Pop1/crazy4john thanks=20 nicole ------=_NextPart_000_008B_01BF5ACF.A8E56800-- ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 9 Jan 2000 19:39:35 EST To: goo@mailinglists.org From: SkyWalkr30@aol.com Subject: Weird Dream~Delete it not interested Message-ID: Here it goes. The other night I had a dream that I was standing on the stage of a Goo concert(yayy!!),and Johnny was singing on the stage with his black acoustic guitar.I tried to get to him,but one of my friends was wrestling me to keep me away from him,I don't know why. And finally,I beat him up,but when I did,Johnny was gone.So I ran backstage to look for him and couldn' find him. And another one of my friends comes out and says "Look in there" And I looked in,and surely enough,Johnny was in there!! He was sitting down on a chair, his back was facing me.And I turn back to my friend and hug her and yell"Thank you!!" And I go back into the room, but Johnny's not sitting on the chair anymore,so I go in further more and find that he's sleeping on a bed next to his guitar. And I though "Oh he looks like a baby sleeping!!" And of course I didn't want to wake him up. Luckily,Robby was standing next to him. All of a sudden,a whole bunch of fans come running into the room,so I jumped in front of them and gave Robby my pen and told him to sign my arm and he said sure. I can't remember what he was writing, but I remember that as he signed it,I was watching Johnny to see if he would wake up and give me his autograph too. And then I turned back to look at my arm,and he was still writing. And when he was on his last sentence,I look to my left and find out that John is standing next to me and he looks at my arm,and I say "Johnny!!" And he smiles. And then I say "Johnny!!" again and he goes "Hmm..." in a macho way (Love it) And then I turn back to my arm and I find out that Robby is done, and I look at my left to look for Johnny, and he's gone,so I start running after him,and when I start catching up to him,I wake up. That was my dream ~*Sky*~ ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 09 Jan 2000 19:55:10 EST To: goo@mailinglists.org From: "??DizZy KmS??" I thought I'd jsut share that I think Ihae figured out what the meaning is behind black balloon. I read in Hit Parader (with Jonathan Davis of Korn on front) that it's aout a friend of theirs who threw HER life away with drugs then I read the old Rolling Stone weith Nicolas Cage on the cover and tehy said that it had to do with Robby's ex wife and his only comment was that "Sometime F*cked up Sh*t happens to good people." Which leads me to the conclusion.. Robby's wife may have used drugs and died and taht is what the song is about because they would have been friends (as mentioned in hit parader) it would have been a she and I think that it all fits into place. =) alexandra ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 9 Jan 2000 17:04:39 -0800 (PST) To: Oh Tara , goo@mailinglists.org From: "Ms. Swan Lake" Cc: horace@prodigy.net Subject: Re: [GOO] AddieColeTrading-RIP ...
