Name was #47 of 1995 and #6 of 1996. In 1998, Iris was #11 (totally beating Celine at #22!) and Slide was #27! don't be fooled...Delaware MAY be a small state, but we know GOOd music when we hear it! I am sending this from work, since nobody in their right mind would be out buying a car in a blizzard! I hope you are all well... We have two birthdays for 1/6/00...they are Kristyn twodaysinfeb@webtv.net Marge luvgod99@webtv.net First, Kristyn's answer to my email: Your name? Kristyn Where you are from? Pennsylvania How old you are turning? 15...yay! and, your answer to the birthday question for January: Which lyric/line of a Goo song has the most personal meaning to you? Why? This is probably the most popular answer but the lyric that means the most personally to me is "We are the Normal, We live and we die, With no reason why," from We Are the Normal (duh!) Why? Well, it means the most to me cuz it really helped me deal with my grandfathers death.....I had a lot of trouble dealing with it so my dad, who's a dj, took out this cd and played the song for me....sorta like he knew it would totally help me out...anyway from then on i was a total goo fan<---but that had nothing to do with the question. Soo...that's the goo lyric that has the most personal meaning to me!!! And then, Marge's: Hi. Well my name is Margie Milliern and I live in Mckeesport, Pennsylvania, This year I will be tuning ~~30~~. In answer to your question of the month, there are too many lyrics that mean alot to me but there is one that stands out in my mind. Its from the song Long Way Down and the line is "the black and white world never fades to gray". Its sounds so poetic and those words have stayed with me since the first time I heard them. Please take a few minutes to send birthday greetings directly to Kristyn and Marge, not to the whole list. As usual, if you would like to be a part of the Birthday List (and my infamous "red folder") please email me at GrnEyedGoo@aol.com with your name, email address and birthday. If you have any questions or comments, please contact me...I am happy to do what I can. I will be moving over the next three weeks, so it may take me a bit to respond, but I will do my best. I will keep posting the birthday announcements from work, so I should be able to keep up with them! Kristyn and Marge, I hope you have AWESOME birthdays! kelly (SW) ...spread the Goo... ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 5 Jan 2000 19:20:13 -0500 To: From: "Maria Pupo" Cc: Subject: Re: [GOO] Could Someone Please Post the Link to Dawn's Pocture Site?? The only band that deserves the award as much as the goos is the chilli peppers, because, like the goos, they are talented and write songs everyone likes and admires. Besides, the award is for best rock performance, and everyone knows the goos give killer live shows. I know I'd come out of a Hole concert w/ a headache. >> Dude, are you high? These are some of the most dumbed down statements I've ever heard. The Goo Goo Dolls have been repackaging "Name" since 1994 and haven't ever been touched by music critical success. Eric, Courtney and the rest of Hole are some of the best songwriters working today (that's not even according to me, they won Best Artist of 1994 by Village Voice, Rolling Stone and Album of the Year by Spin). They've been nominated for more Grammys than the GGDs. They have 100X the originality of the GGDs. They actually have made a place for themselves for the future of music whereas the GGDs will be seen as a travesty (in the same respect as 80s hair balladeers) to modern rock come 2010. What is up with that dude's hair anyways? I can't take his take-me-seriously deep bullshit when he has an inability to write anything but sappy ass pop rock. Hi, I went to a GGDs/SR show in Indianapolis this year and I have never been so bored out of my mind esp. when the Dolls took the stage. This is the response I got from MightHaveBeen@aol.com after I wrote to him/her/it about insulting the goos. NOW THIS IS PERSONAL! I know that this is mean, but at this point, i don't give a flying fiddler's fart, so send this person hate mail, PLEASE???? Here's the response: This is such an easy argument to win. Effortless... 1. The Goo Goo Dolls in their however-many years have never once made an album that has been received well universally. 2. They have a habit of gravitating towards their best selling singles and then attempting to recreate the sound (over and over again) of the song - extremely hackneyed (see "Name") 3. They will be seen as one of the mid to late 90s pop throwaway bands (includes: Third Eye Blind, Matchbox) The only reason we will mention them in this century will be to award Mr. Resnik's take-me-seriously rock haircut as one of the worst of all time. 4. Goo Goo Dolls has become a pop band. They don't even belong in this category. 5. Hole swept almost every music critic poll in 1994 (#1 Village Voice, #1 Rolling Stone, Best Album - Spin) and then was created more mass critical success in 1998 with Celeb Skin (4/5 RS, 8 Spin) 6. Firstly, about the Goos being universally received...I've never ever heard of a band whose albums have all been given 5 stars by every reviewer in the universe. And if ever there was such a band, it is certainly not Hole, which basically consists of a bleached-blonde, drugged up and overall slutty Courtney Love screaming meaningles nonsense at the top oof her lungs while at the same trime living off of the so-called fame that has come with noty knowing how to dress. Secondly, its highly questionable that you have ever listened to Dizzy Up the Girl. Had you actually done so,you would know that not all of the songs are, as you said, poor remakes of Name. As well as the fact that John Rzeznik (note the spelling of his name) *can* sing, while Courtney Love sounds like a sick frog with no larynx. Speaking of haircuts, I have never seen a haircut more befiiting of a street whore than the one which graces the top of Courteny Love's eternally empty and obviously unimaginative head ("Be A Man" is truly a very hard phrase to think up with obviously more meaning to it than is obvious upon a first glance. Yeah....right.) And as to what you said about the Goo Goo Dolls being a pop band....it's a natural progression. Hole has been pumping out the same music for who knows how long, which means that they're obviously not quite as unique and incredibly intelligent as you make them out to be. Must be that all those drugs have affected them, huh? In one of your arguments, you are purely wrong. The Goo Goo Dolls did not lose a member to other projects (such as the Smashing Pumpkins, who now are just spewing pure shit, and if your little bassist thought the Pumpkins were better than who she was with, what, exactly, does that say about Hole?). The Goo Goo Dolls lost a member, who is *now with* another project. *YOU*, my friend, are the idiot. Mentioning drugs was purely my way of bringing up strength. Now, let's compare and contrast, shall we? Courtney Love *looks* like a junkie slut, which, in general, is a considerably useful way of judging whether or not that person is, in fact, a junkie. John Rzeznik on the other hand, *was* a junkie. Big difference, dude, biiiiig difference. Having the strength to have actually overcome something is more than one can say say for Ms. Love, whose strength is usually tapped after having to deal with, perhaps, a run in her stocking. I hope, for your sake, that in time you can come to appreciate good music. But perhaps your brain, which was quite obviously small to begin with, has been fried by blasting that hideous, unimaginatve crap cranked out by yet another rock cliche. For what it's worth, this person that blasted the Goos in the first place is a prime example of the old adage "Opinions are like assholes... everyone has one, and it's usually full of shit". I'm not gonna waste my time bashing this guy for having an opinion, nor will I bash Hole or Garbage. However, I will say this: anyone who makes their opinions known so publicly and forcefully needs to be able to back up those opinions with solid fact, which this fellow clearly didn't do. Let's examine: > 1. The Goo Goo Dolls in their however-many years have never once made an > album that has been received well universally. By not "being received well universally", I suppose he means that the Goos A) haven't sold enough albums, or B) don't please rock critics. A) is simply incorrect (how many million copies of DUTG have been sold?) and B) is an invalid argument since so many people are of the opinion that rock critics, like anyone else that's paid to shove opinions down the throats of the masses, are full of shit anyway. > 2. They have a habit of gravitating towards their best selling singles and > then attempting to recreate the sound (over and over again) of the song - > extremely hackneyed (see "Name") Yes, it's true! Every song from ABNG and DUTG is EXACTLY like Name.... Well, I suppose that either his CD player or his ears aren't working properly - if he's listened to either disc, that is. And what pop band doesn't support their best-selling singles? It's a business. If you don't support what works for you, you'll have a hard time putting food on your table. > 3. They will be seen as one of the mid to late 90s pop throwaway bands > (includes: Third Eye Blind, Matchbox) The only reason we will mention them > in this century will be to award Mr. Resnik's take-me-seriously rock haircut > as one of the worst of all time. Well, I don't particularly care for "Mr. Resnik's" (Christ almighty, is it really THAT hard to spell?) haircut either, but that's not the point (and if you've ever seen my 'do, you know that I have no right to judge). "Pop throwaway band" is nothing more than an opinion, and an unjustifiable one at that; the haircut comment is apparently a poorly-designed use of wit intended to take attention away from the first, more ridiculous statement. (By the way, I'm so glad this person has such stellar fortunetelling talents. Maybe he can tell me what the lottery numbers will be next week.) > 4. Goo Goo Dolls has become a pop band. They don't even belong in this > category. Heh.. I love it when bands are classified as "pop". It's as if this category is a swirling, evil vortex of eternal peril that sucks any credibility out of said band. What exactly defines "pop" anyway? Metallica is one of the most heavily played bands on modern radio, yet they're rarely seen with the word "pop" next to their name. So why are the Goos constantly called "pop"? Seems to me (and this is just my opinion) that people classify things as "pop" to give them an excuse to ridicule and demean the music (i.e.. "This band sucks. They must be 'pop'!") By the way, what exactly are Hole and Garbage? Anti-pop? Leaders of the underground movement? (Oh yeah - I almost forgot to mention my admiration for the wonderful use of grammar here, buddy) > 5. Hole swept almost every music critic poll in 1994 (#1 Village Voice, #1 > Rolling Stone, Best Album - Spin) and then was created more mass critical > success in 1998 with Celeb Skin (4/5 RS, 8 Spin) See #1 - rock critics (ESPECIALLY Rolling Stone and Spin) are full of shit. Thank God they don't solely influence my music purchasing habits or my life would be sad indeed. (Once again, he demonstrates exquisite grammar - I feel like I'm reading a Pulitzer Prize-winner.) > 6. Funny you mention drugs, seeing as how GGD's lead singer is an alcoholic. > Alcohol isn't a drug, right? You are an idiot. Hmm... I believe he left out the word "former" somewhere in there. > 7. GGDs have lost bandmembers in the past to other projects (usually equally > shoddy ones) It was *one* band member, and George was *kicked* out to the best of my recollection. He certainly didn't leave because he wanted to. Furthermore, Hole (and I believe Garbage, as well) have also lost members over time. Things like that happen in the biz. Did Van Halen start to suck just because David Lee left the band? (Well, some people would agree to that, but I hope you see my point here) > 9. 15 Years of shoddy music, the past 3 of which have been purely contrived > from previous hits. Bleh... One man's trash is another's treasure... again, an opinion that is worthless to anyone that has one of their own. "Bleh" must be his way of saying "Yes, I know I don't have a real good explanation for this one, but I'm hoping you ignore that fact and take it as gospel regardless". (Take note, Webster's: we're helping you out a little early with that new millennium dictionary.) Simply put, I wanted to point out to you guys that while it's nice to have an opinion, it's naive, egotistical, and even irresponsible to act as if your opinion should be everyone else's. There's a reason they're called "opinions", and we all have to remember (this guy especially) that there are over six billion people in the world that might potentially disagree with us. If you can't deal with that, keep your mouth shut (or in this case, keep your fingers off the keyboard). It really irks me that people like this dare to ostensibly call others idiots for listening to the music they enjoy. Hey, I hate the Backstreet Boys, but you don't see me going around blasting their fans for having no taste. Thanks to whoever posted the original message. I had a good laugh reading these pathetic rationalizations. God forbid if this guy thinks the sky is green - he's in for quite a shock. Alright, I'm done now. The fingers are falling off. Best of luck to the Goos at the awards (although they certainly don't need to win to validate our appreciation for them). > 3. Hey, I hate the Backstreet Boys, but you don't see me going around blasting their fans for having no taste. Thanks to whoever posted the original message. Message-ID: <0009D288C5CAD2119A080008C7337EE95640C2@hbmail> Ok, I have no idea who wrote the letter below but the last time I checked this was a Goo Goo Dolls mailing list for their FANS, not their deterrents. I don't know if this letter was sent to you directly as a result of a post of yours to a message board or a post somewhere else. MightHaveBeen@aol.com has a right to their opinion no matter how misguided it might be, they just don't need to belong to a Goo Fan list. All of the "award" shows are totally overrated. They have succumbed to recognizing acts purely on their commercial successes rather than the quality of their music. The fact that Britney Spears is nominated for anything proves my point. She'll eventually fade away with all of the other manufactured acts out there. I have to admit, in my teens I was a fan of the original "boy bands" like New Edition and New Kids on the Block. Thankfully I have matured. I now can appreciate the fact that the Goo Goo Dolls have been around for 10 years and that is definitely an accomplishment in the fickle music industry. They have struggled through break-ups, bad decisions, cancelled tours because of lackluster ticket sales, and every other imaginable hard knock thing you could think of. The fact that they are still around really says something. I have been following them for years and they deserve a lot more respect than what they are receiving from everyone - including The Grammys and MTV. MTV would rather play videos by people with talent only in making a visually stimulating video showing breasts and other body parts of theirs. I'm not trying to criticize those with just commercial success, but the fact that the Grammys have nominated some of the people that they have just shows how oblivious they are to what a REAL musician is. Enough rambling, I now take you back to regularly scheduled programming. Ann Dude, are you high? He won't ever be considered a rock star, whereas Hole will rock your ass off, fuck with you, and leave you bruised in true rock fashion. GGDs would just make you want to kill yourself. I think I know it by heart, but I want to make sure before I give them to him. Could someone please email me the lyrics? I'd really appreciate it. Thanks! I'm waiting to hear from Mike, Nathan, & Dave. And I think Robby might still be on vacation. I basically put it on hold for December because the band was super busy. Everyone here knows the goo goo dolls for their true talent and amazing song writing ability but most people outside this list simply dont recognize it. Here's an example I think a lot of people can relate to. I first got into the band after hearing "Fallin Down". I saw how great the band was before they had a hit with "Name" A lot of other people, critics and your average joe, saw them as a rock band that sold out by writing a slow pop song. If you had liked the band before you would've known that they wrote slow songs before that so they weren't selling out for pop fame. A boy named goo really put them in line to go down as one hit wonders. I can remember going to an early show and while I was loving it there were people their that only really got into hearing "Name". With DUTG the band has gained a more praise but they still aren't really be appreciated for all they do musically. In a lot of people's minds John is just the sexy lead singer of a good pop band. I know a lot of people who have told me all their songs sound the same. Personally I don't see it, I think they have done great things musically, its unfair to say all their songs are "Name" remakes. Each song has its own distinct feel to me. Believe me, I am not trying to generate any hate mail towards the goo goo dolls, they are without a doubt my favorite band. I just wonder how the band will be remembered when its all said and done. ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 6 Jan 2000 13:36:18 EST To: goo@mailinglists.org From: Rzeznilininakac@aol.com Subject: A follow up to the hate mail/everything/DELETE if you can't handle opinions!!!! Message-ID: First of all I would like to say that I think it was kinda petty to put the original hate mail letter on the list and start a controversy. If someone sends me a letter (which happens often) telling me the band is shit I don't run to the list and say hey this guy dogged my band lets start a fight! That would be kinda childish. For all the people who reacted and made a big deal out of it... WHY DO YOU CARE WHAT SOME ASSHOLE THINKS ANYWAY? Why make it worse? Usually when someone makes a rude comment or degrades the band all they are trying to do is piss you off... when they realize they have accomplished this they win... don't let it get to you! What good will it do to argue with this guy... are you going to go to his house and knock him on his ass? No so why bother? Second after going through 300 emails today I noticed that a lot of the emails are pointless and a lot of people don't like it when someone is looking for someone but hey the emails that you post telling them not to are just as irritating as the original. It is very easy to delete something and not have to put in your 2 cents. (dont flame me please its a waste of your time) I think that being on the list is a great benefit to being a goo fan and frankly you are going to get a lot of pointless bullshit in your inbox... so why add to it.... by you telling someone not to post nonsense you are adding to the problem. By posting "I agree" or anything like that is just as bad... am I wrong? nevermind don't answer! Remember the delete button takes a lot less time than posting a follow up BS letter to bitch about it! This list is a priviledge and I see a lot of people coming and going... so what does that tell you. And if someone is wanting to unsubscribe and they cant see the instructions themselved why email everyone? why bitch at them period... why not just be a good GGD Fan and say "hey this is how you do it, sorry you didn't like it" It doesn't make sense to ridicule and degrade them because they didn't see it... I personally don't usually pay attention to the footnotes on an email because I don't care to... So I am sure I could have easily overlooked it too... but haven't we all made stupid mistakes? Anyway, I would like to say that by reading through 300+ email I don't think I had a big problem with any emails and I am honored to be able to have the entertainment that the list provides even though 9 times out of 10 I delete before I am halfway done reading.... which is why I doubt anyone is still reading this letter. Anyway, I had posted that I have stuff from Whats hot now I am selling at my cost plus shipping and I am doing it first come first serve. I don't have a whole lot and I am not trying to make a dime off of this no matter what anyone thinks I just ended up with over $100 worth of merchandise that I don't want or need. SO if you have any inquiries email me and I will get back with you as soon as I can! Talk to you all later P.S. I heard they were in Hawaii too. P.P.S. You can still find Guild gallery in Record stores too. However some have already thrown them out. I managed to get another 6 copies from a local store. P.P.P.S. Sesame Street is now in my daily routine... I will be making copies and will trade so I will post that on the list later (unless I forget to wake up that morning) Anyone else think baby bear is completely IRRITATING? Ok that isn't meant to be answered! I haven't caught the "Yip Yip" aliens in a long time! They used to be my favorite... remember they would stand outside burt and ernies window and say "Yip Yip Yip" over and over! I love those things! Have a great day! Have fun! July 15, 1999 Fanatic Hope you all got to see Mtv's Fanatic July 14 It was realy good The Goo Goo Dolls where totally awesome, as usual. I really wish I could have sent an entry in but you have to be 18 or older and I am not. Anyway their fan was really cool. Like John, I too thought it was gonna be some little anoying screamer. I thought it was gonna be some little Iris Goo, as I call them. They are the annoying, "I love Goo Goo Dolls but don't know the first thing about them" people who have heard of nothing more than DUTG. No offense to those of you who first heard of them when Iris came out, those of you on the internet are cool because you are making an effort to learn about the BEST band on earth. I'm talking about the dumb girls that are all, "Johnny is so hot I love Goo Goo Dolls" but don't wanna take the time to learn about them and couldn't care less if you had a really cool interview with any of the other members of GGD. I'm like "John's not the only one in the band. Yeah, he's really hot and all but come on. It's all about the music man." Yes I refer to the pseudo-fan, the "fan" who claims to love them but couldn't tell you where "Even though the moment past me by ..." comes from "That's Goo Goo Dolls? No way." . "Robby Takac? Who's that? Oh let me see the photo of John." "Here's one of Robby" "Oh I don't care about him. I wanna see John". Makes me want to strangle them. That's enough of that. I think she was deserving of her chance to meet and talk with them because she didn't ask really dumb questions i.e "How long have you been together?" Although it was really funny when she asked them how they have put up with each other for so long, they were cute. I also like the fact that she didn't be one of those fans that scream "Oh my God I get to meet the Goo Goo Dolls!" when they are right in front of her, she kept her cool even after the show. I know after I met them I would be going totally crazy, jumping everywhere and screaming like Robby( I Love it when he screams, he's so awesome) It was so cool John wasn't wearing shoes and he had his feet on the sofa and was being really cute, and Robby was being really funny and cool, and Mike, well Mike rarely talks as it is and I don't think he said anything. For those of you who still have questions as to the identity of May, it is definately just some name John came up with when he was writing the song and the same is for Iris so they really aren't anybody. ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 6 Jan 2000 14:06:31 EST To: goo@mailinglists.org From: MELINCHUCK@aol.com Subject: goo chat room on aol Message-ID: <5b.5b9dbc73.25a641b7@aol.com> just started one. if you have aol, joinme melinda ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 6 Jan 2000 14:08:09 EST To: goo@mailinglists.org From: MELINCHUCK@aol.com Subject: sorry, heres the address for the chat Message-ID: <34.3408cda9.25a64219@aol.com> Click here: Arts and Entertainment - goo goo dolls ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 6 Jan 2000 14:23:53 EST To: goo@mailinglists.org From: TRENT9x9@aol.com Subject: Re: [GOO] beware Message-ID: <24.24e74057.25a645c9@aol.com> Hey, I have to step in here to on Scott's defense. (that is Finnish for Hello...I am learning from my roomie!) January is a VERY big month for birthdays, so bear with me, please. There must be something in the air in April and May....hmmmmm... So, we have two birthdays for 1/7. They are: Kristie SaSSieGoO@aol.com Erin Mudd407@aol.com First, Kristie's response to the birthday question, which she sent to me (Thank you SO much!): thank you soooo much for the happy b-day and the recognition!! Well, here goes ... my name is Kristie Van Every and i live in Redondo Beach Ca. (so yes i will be available to go with you John to the Grammys....) I am now 30 and Very proud to say that i am now eligible to be a member of "THE DROOL CLUB". Although i have been a GOO fan forever it has only been in the last year that they have held such a deep meaning to me. Last year while listening to acoustic #3 I freaked! the song in a very pathetic way had summed up my life completely."and she wonders where these dreams go 'cause the world got in her way whats the point in ever trying nothings changing anyway" when a song is speaking about something that screwed up and you take serious meaning to it.....THERE COULD BE A PROBLEM!!!!! So i did change, i moved back to Ca and i am never looking back!!! and, Erin's response: im erin mulhern from nj and ill be turning 17 and the line i like best is "Do you listen to yourself Never live for someone else" from Bullet Proof because i think that a lot of times people dont live their lives the way they want to but keep trying to please someone else.....if everyone lived their life for themselves i think everyone would be much happier:) I also got the response from one of today's birthdays, so I will add it here. Puli writes: Your name? puli zahotti Where you are from?NY How old you are turning?15 and, your answer to the birthday question for January: Which lyric/line of a Goo song has the most personal meaning to you? Whew! Lots of birthdays right now...I am doing my best to include them all. I am SO sorry if I miss something...please let me know if I mess up. Kristie and Erin, I hope you have awesome birthdays! Well I missed out on that but if I could have wrote something this is what I would have said!( it is long, but a good true story!) I am 39 year old girl that was lost for a long long time! When I was in my teens, I listened to music all the time and went to a million concerts. Music helped me get through a really hard time when I was a teen and I don't know what I would have done with out music. It was my friend when my step dad was being mean to me and calling me a snipe. When I turned 21, I started having these things called Panic attacks, I did not know what they were, I thought I was dying. For about 2 years I would not hardly leave my apartment. Then I finally got on a medication and I got better, and then in 1988 my Heart started beating real real fast one day. I was so scared! I was put in the hospital and they said I have a Heart Rhythm disorder, and that I can not take the medicine for my Panic attacks any more. They put me on meds for my Heart Rhythm disorder and said go home Karen and live with this. I was 28. I had 2 kids and lived by myself. I had to quite my job and file for ssi and for about 3 years i would not even leave the house again. I could not believe all this was happing to me. I asked my self why all the time. I would get so depressed and I was so lonely. I stopped listening to music, the one thing that I loved so much. I felt so hopeless. I would sit and watch out the window as everyone else went about their lives. I would day- dream that I was someone else just to escape all of it. In 1991 I meet this guy and moved into a house with him and I started to get a little better, but all he does is watch sports and coach tee-ball. In l993 I started on a new heart medicine that cut the number of times my heart would go into this fast rate down to about 5-7 times a year,(were talking a heart rate of about 250 beats a minute) I have to put my face in ice water to try to break the rhythm and if that does not work then I have to call a squad and have them start an iv and give me meds in my arm. Its so scary, even after all this time it still freaks me out and I think I am having a heart attack and it makes you not want to go nowhere. In the mid 90s I was able to go out a little more and I would go to the stores or to a friends house. Its always in the back of my mind and I try so hard not to let it rule me but you cant help it sometimes. I never dreamed in a million years I would go to a concert again like the old Karen did back in the 70s. Then one day in early 1999, I heard the Goos on the radio and then I saw them on VH1. I went out and got DUTG, and ABNG, and I started listening to their music. The Goos music touched a place in my heart and soul that I never thought would be touched again for I was so so bitter about everything that had happened to me. The more I listen to their music the more alive I became. My best friend died of alcoholism at the age of 33, so I really related to Johnny's music. All the songs gave me hope and I had not had no hope in so long. In the summer of 1999 my courage started to rise. I started doing more and more things. When ever I would drive somewhere I would put the goos music on the radio. Then in July I found out that the goos where coming to Columbus in August. I went ticketmaster and bought me and my son who is 14 and my daughter who is 19 a ticket. On August 17th 1999 I went to my first goo goo dolls concert. i was a little scared but I did it. I was so proud of myself because you see when you have panic attacks you hate to be in a crowd. The show was great and I did fine. Right after that I joined this list and it gave me something to look forward to , for you see I really don' t have a lot of friends because I don't get out much. Then I started collecting goo goo dolls stuff. That also gave me something to do, and it really fun!!!!! The song acoustic #3 really means a lot to me because I feel like no one listens to me. In October my girlfriend Vicci and I got tickets to a goo show in Latrobe Pa. It was a 31/2 hour drive from Columbus. At first I did not want to go because i have never driven that far and my friend does not know how to drive a stick shift and we have to drive a car with one. So it would be me driving... Some of my fears started to come back, like what would i do on the road if my heart acts up or its a general admission concert and the crowd will be rough, What if I have a panic attack in the crowd?? That is the kind of things that started going through my head. Then I played dizzy up the girl and I said i can do this. On October 29, 1999 me and my friend Vicci drove to Latrobe Pa, and went to the goos concert. I stood out side the doors for 3 hours before they let us in and then I got a seat on the bleachers. We were really close. When the Goos came on stage I got excited and my heart was beating fast, not an attack just PURE excitement!!! I even caught a goo guitar pic. After the show we stood out back and tried to get autographs . Johnny came out and was about 2 foot from me but all these screaming girls swarmed him, so I did not get one but I did not care.It seemed so sur-real. As their bus pulled away into the night I realized where I was. I was in a different state standing there watching the goos bus pull away. I had the best time of my life that night. It was almost midnight and the drive home was long!!! All the way home I was so happy and so proud of myself. I had come along way from the girl who was so scared to even leave her house. Since then I started going back to school to get my GED. I am a new person. The Goos music gave me the inner strength i needed to live again. I know this is a long story , but I feel you would not have understood it unless I told you the whole story. I have so much hope for the future. My heart problem still acts up once in a while but I am not as afraid as i was before. I now look at life in a whole new way, and that make such a difference!!! Believe me it does. The Goos music will live in my heart and my soul forever. That's what the Goo Goo Dolls mean to me!!! Wow, I finally came across the very first mention of the Goos in a local magazine! It's very short, but there even is a small pic. Here it is if anyone's interested: CRASH-LANDING DOLLS Since the USS Kennedy slid off the runway, the Goo Goo Dolls haven't been too hot on flying. They were so shaken by the incident that they cancelled their stint in MTV's Millennium Party Plane event on New Year's Eve. The group was to have joined 10 contest winners on the London-New York leg of a round-the-world flight, alongside fellow acts 98 degrees and DJ Skribble. There was no change in their other commitment on 31 Dec: MTV's 2 Large Party, fesaturing fellow guests Christina Aguilera, Bush, Puffy, Jay-Z and Blink-182. ~~sheena~~ ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 7 Jan 2000 11:43:23 -0500 To: From: "Joe Haniszewski Jr" Subject: Jessica Feichtinger, Goo contest, and other stuff...... But I guess I'll make it Goo related. First off, Andrea Feichtinger, could you please email me at = joejr@pce.net Secondly, I'm going to be doing another contest for the 20,000th visitor = to Goo Goo Dolls Online. I did it about 2 months ago for the 10,000th = visitor, and they never claimed their prize, so I am now going to be = using it for the 20,000th visitor to my site. The prize is, "That Other = Christmas CD", with the Goo Goo Dolls and Lance Diamond performing, "Do = You Believe in Him?". These CD's were only available in 97 and in = Buffalo. I will be posting the rules in the next couple of days, so = please do not email me asking about the contest yet. The web address for = Goo Goo Dolls Online is www.pce.net/joejr I am in the process of moving it to a dedicated site and should have = that done relatively soon. In the process of deciding what domain name = to use, www.??????.com . Oh yea, random stuff.... If you are a Wrestling fan, watch WCW Monday = Nitro as it is taped live from Buffalo! I will be at the event = photographing it and trying to get my mug on national tv. It's going to = be on Superstation TBS, I think it starts at 8 or 9pm eastern. I got to = be on TV when the WWF was here a month or so ago too. Was funny. Plus = usually some Buffalo celebs show up and they put them on tv. Doubt the = Goos will be there, but if you want to see more of Buffalo, then you = should watch it. If you want to know who I am, just go to my site = www.pce.net/joejr and then go to Who is jOegOo..... Just thought I'd = random throw that in :) I'm been quiet a bit here. We switched over to a cable modem and we are = using a different computer. I'm still in the progress of moving things = over. So if you mailed me and haven't got a reply back, be patient = please.. :) jOegOo joejr@pce.net GooGooDollsOnline www.pce.net/joejr ------=_NextPart_000_000E_01BF5904.6723BD80-- ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 7 Jan 2000 11:54:21 -0500 To: 'GGD Mailing List 5' From: "Koehler, Ann" Subject: Slide LIVE Message-ID: <0009D288C5CAD2119A080008C7337EE95640E7@hbmail> I was listening to my CD of Rockline dated 8/16/99 and the Goos performed Slide live. The 20,000th visitor gets the prize. I'm making this nice and simple, just play by the rules. -Website: Goo Goo Dolls Online -Url: www.pce.net/joejr -Prize: "That Other Christmas CD" with the Goo Goo Dolls and Lance Diamond performing "Do You Believe in Him?". -Winner: The 20,000th visitor to Goo Goo Dolls Online -Rules: (1) If you are the 20,000th visitor to the site and the counter on the bottom of my front page says so, then proceed to 2. (2) PRINT OUT THE ENTIRE FRONT PAGE WITH THE COUNTER SAYING 20,000. If you don't have a printer, sorry, Office Max has some nice printers for sale. (This contest is not sponsored or affiliated with Office Max). But to actually prove to me that you are the 20,000th visitor, I need a printout. NO EXCEPTIONS! (3) But I was visitor 20,001.??? If this happens, print it out anyway, the counter, not controlled by me, may skip 20,000. Do this even if you are 20,009. (4) Email me as soon as you reach that landmark point in history. The email address is joejr@pce.net . And the title is to be "20,000th visitor contest" or something like that, so I don't delete your message in the barrage of "What color is Johnny's nails today questions?) :) (5) If there is a 20,000th visitor and even higher, and noone claims the prize by following the rules, then I will restart the contest for another hit counter number. (6) The winner agrees to pay for shipping and handling of the CD. US citizens are to pay $5.00 before I send it out to them. Details will be sent to the winner. (7) If the winner does not reply to me or send out payment within 10 days without a valid reason, I will decide to do from there, but most likely there will be a new contest/winner. (8) Previous winners from this contest are not valid for re-entry. You know who you are, and you are not able to participate in this contest. I think I answered all the questions relating to this contest. If need so, I will post rule updates to the Goo mailing list. I mean for this contest to give something to a fan. And to give people that may not be familiar with my site the address so you could see my archive of 10+ years of following the band. Trust me, there is a lot more than that, but when I find time, I'll add to it. Oh yea, and the last winner did not claim the prize in 2 months, so that is why I am offering it for this contest. Please try to not email me regarding this. I'm going to be out all weekend and won't be able to deal with a masss amount of emails regarding it. If you are the winner, and I don't reply to you right away, that means I'm away from my computer. I'll email the winner as soon as there is one and I am on the computer. That's all from me for now, have fun. jOegOo joejr@pce.net GooGooDollsOnline www.pce.net/joejr ------------------------------ End of goo Digest ***********************************
