I think Kathy Griffin is hysterical - she was talking about her favorite album and the VJ (Dave?) mentioned that the top three albums from the online voting were Limp Bizkit, InSync and the Backstreet Boys - she couldn't believe it - my sentiments exactly - The BSB for best album of all time?? First of all, A VERY HAPPY NEW MILLENNIUM!!!!!!! Hope most of you got/get to see the Goos at the MTV thingy, cause I didn't....*sob*...and probably won't, since MTV-Asia isn't planning to show it.... Anyway, I was wondering....the Goos were at Times Square in N.Y., right? Is that the same place where that big millennium ball came down? Cause I saw THAT on TV(pretty cool, btw), and I hoped that maybe they'd show a bit of the concert like they showed other performances in Canada, Miami, etc.... So, since I have no idea were everything is located in N.Y., I was just curious if the MTV thingy and the millennium ball falling were in the same area....if someone would be kind enough to explain a bit, I'd appreciate it!! ~~sheena~~ ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 1 Jan 2000 01:01:56 -0800 (PST) To: goo@mailinglists.org, awesomegoo@onelist.org, mikemalinin@onelist.org, dizzy4MikeMalinin@onelist.org From: Malinin grl Subject: Fab Fay Message-ID: <14964350.946717316379.JavaMail.imail@seamore.excite.com> Hey Guys over teh past I dunno how many years FabFay has taken every effert she has and has given us an awesome goo website. She deserves some credit so i am going to take names downa nd make her a card and send it.All yo have to do is send ur first and last name and I will add it to the card.=-) Iwill take names from now untill Jan. 10 Whittney _______________________________________________________ Visit Excite Shopping at http://shopping.excite.com The fastest way to find your Holiday gift this season ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 1 Jan 2000 04:08:23 EST To: goo@mailinglists.org From: DizzyUpThisGirl@aol.com Subject: Goo Performance Message-ID: <0.254cd544.259f1e07@aol.com> Hey guys, I hope everyone had a great time bringing in the new year, and the new Millenium. So, I was sitting there, and to my surprise, I hear Johnnys beautiful voice singing broadway!!! The also played this on ABC!!!! I was soo happy. I suppose this is a good thing--the survival part--but about the time last night "awesome" was used for the 126,295th time by one bleached blonde nimrod or another during Empty-Vee's marathon promotion for its winter programming, I was ready to go bin Laden myself, at least slaughtering my neighbors for celebrating the turn of the century by listening to "classic rock" at a ridiculous volume. Having earlier filled my place with a somewhat toxic cloud of eye-irritating canola haze caused by copious amounts of homemade chicken tenders, I did not consider "Hotel California" classic, rock, or much of a reason to go on living. But I'm old and cranky. The good news about the Goos, MTV and the state of that skeevy Backstreet Boy's receding hairline is that Our Heroes managed to eke out some degree of self-respect in the midst of all the awesome awesomeness and emerge waaay too hip for the room. Two really lively real live performances, some anti-awesome banter, and Robby's boss yellow-lensed glasses easily added up to more cool than a dance floor fulla rappin' Puff Daddy flunkies and/or prefab, not-so-fab nymphettes with Terri Nunn hair and Cher rib removal. Since when have the Solid Gold dancers become platinum acts? If last night's epic salute to the shallowness of our culture proved anything, it's that sports have become the model for every facet of modern life--having just seen a rerun of Bull Durham the other night (a film I've seen 20 times and own on laserdisc, but I found myself watching only to ogle Susan Sarandon and laugh at how the rough language was fuc...fudged for television) it was easy for me last night to listen to lucky rubes like Puff Daddy and those mutants 98 Degrees "talk about" music, history, and the future, and see that it ain't just sports figures who can talk only in the most predictable, utterly meaningless strings of cliches. Last night, the Goos were heroic Crash Davises in a studio full of Nuke LaLooshes, and I'll bet Kathy Griffin had Carson Daly in the silky skivvies to improve his on-air performance. "Slide," while still one of the best pop/rock/whatever singles of the decade, was fun, an earnest, tuneful oddity in the midst of the inane lip-synched assembly line product cranked out by the Christinas and Jay-Z's of the world, but "Broadway" was not only an inspired choice (next single or not, and I'm hoping not, actually) but a blast of fresh air that, had all the planets been lined up, would've blown all the poseurs and halfwits out into Times Square, where they'd have been beaten to a pulp on principle, especially Gwen Stefani and the rest of the hacks in No Doubt, whose lamer than lame version of REM's "It's the End of the World (Blah Blah Blah)" would have gotten them kicked off the VH-1 karaoke show if it'd been played there. Finding out THAT was the "special" midnight performance Carson & Co. had been all a-flutter about for five hours was enough to get me looking for firearms to use to shoot out the TV in the blessed name of Elvis. I was expecting something at least kitschy out of MTV, a la Pee-Wee Herman and/or Michael & Lisa Marie at their Music Awards. Instead, we had "the return of No Doubt," which makes me giggle just to write it, hyped as if they were the Beatles. The reformed Toad the Wet Sprocket would have caused a bigger buzz in my household, no offense to you Toadies. I liked Blink 182, though. But I'll wrap up my rant with another salute to the Goos for wrapping up a great year in style, with dignity (especially Mike, whose stoic bemusement in the midst of the BS was cooler than Kurt Loder could ever be, even with a complete blood transfusion from Tom Waits, Janeane Garafalo and Chow Yun-Fat) and no physical or emotional casualties. May that week in the sun be relaxing, refreshing, and free of poisonous jellyfish and travel agents poking into records to see where they're going, and here's to the first single off the next record sounding more like "Flat Top" than "Iris." Happy New Year. I have to admit, that the fact that the don't play their own instruments or write their own music does have some sort of impact on the way people look at them. But, they all do have good voices..in fact, I think Jessica Simpson has an awesome voice! As does some of BSB and 98 degrees...and if anyone on the list owns Christina Aguilera's album (you don't have to admit it lol) ...they'd hear that she in fact has a very unique but strong and pretty voice. First of all, Johnny once said that one of his biggest pet peeves is when people write the Goos off because of their silly name. That's the same thing as hearing, like, one or two songs of any band and writing them off as bad. Limp Bizkit is NOT all about money and violence AT ALL. The band desrves a little respect. Now, don't get me wrong, i don't think they're the greatest thing in the world, but I do think that half of what this list has become is bashing Limp/KoRn/Britney Spears/BSB/ NSYNC/Christina Aguilera/Mandy Moore, etc. Don't you think we can do a little better than this????? I mean, honestly, this is really beginning to be a bit much. This a GOO GOO DOLLS LIST, not a LET'S-BASH-WHAT-WE-DON'T-FEEL-IS-GOOD-MUSIC LIST. I do NOT think that any of the goos would be proud to have people on a list dedicated to them whose posts are all about how everyone else gets more exposure than the Goos, and becuase of that, everyone else sucks. SINCE WHEN IS GOOD MUSIC APPRECIATED IN THIS WORLD, ANYWAY!? It's a fact of life that good bands are underappreciated, and *I* would really appreciate it if we could all understand this without bashing everyone we feel sucks. Message-ID: <0.affe7821.259fbf15@aol.com> Hey all, a lot of people are putting in their two cents and I want to too... I agree that the Goos were the best act. Out of curiosity - Did anyone notice that throughout the Trl Top 99 of 99 countdown they kept saying "coming up, performances from 98 degrees and the Goo Goo Dolls.." and then it changed to 98 degrees and Bush and the Goos didn't perform until 9:30? Well, when the Goos were standing around with Carson & Co., Mike wasn't with them (until they were about the perform). This is just a thought, but, since he wasn't on the Fly2K thing, maybe he wasn't there yet! I don't know, I just thought it was a little strange. What was up with the No Doubt thing??? They disappear from the music scene for 3 years and suddenly the come back and are treated like royalty??? Gosh. And that REM thing..if Gwen Stefani didn't know the words (did you see the cue-cards?) she shouldn't have sang it. Actually even if she did, she shouldn't have anyway. I like REM and I think No Doubt's version was just bad. I thought Blink 182 was hilarious in their interviews and things, but I think their live performance was a little weak. Too bad. I like them though. And if Christina Aguilera wasn't another pop-princess, I might like her. She can sing. No, Mandy Moore probably isn't a real fan, but oh well. We have enough on our side. Ok. I've said enough. *^*Amanda*^* P.S. I have gotten a very disappointing response to my question of the month! (Gee, I thought you guys'd like this one!) I was so pissed off, but ya know i think I can probably watch it sometime, they will rerun it. 3) OK I had a really weird goo dream last night....please dont read on if youre one of those who hates reading about other people's dreams. Ok...first off I was watching the MTV 2large party and Carson was saying that the goos were releasing a new album (i forgot the name, but it was a really random word that you'd never expect someone to name their album). Then I was at the goos concert and I was out on some steps with my bro. All of a sudden, Johnny comes up and hugs me and is like "wow u have great abs and a great body" (i know strange), and i was like "haha ok punch me in the stomach, theyre like steel) and he started laughing and hugged me again and said i was funny. So then...i followed him somewhere and he was flirting with some girls and there were like 3 groups of girls around him, including me, so he said "does everyone here like me?"..and we said "yes". So then we all went to some treehouse until the show started. Anyways it was soooo freakin strange. just thought you'd find it funny!! 4) what did the "no doubt" guy say to the goos? what was the scenario? i didnt see it thankyou, please answer questions!! hanly ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 1 Jan 2000 16:08:40 EST To: goo@mailinglists.org From: JGFOREVER@aol.com Subject: New Album Message-ID: <0.d32c6c3b.259fc6d8@aol.com> Can someone help me with this. As I know you all agree, the Goos ROCKED!!! And I also wasn't very happy with Kathy Griffen's comment about Mike, but she was just trying to get a lauch out of Carson. MTV could plausibly skyrocket to fame any group they choose to help (and they DID help the GOOS a bunch w/ABNG), and in the same way, they could destroy an artists career with a scathing review or a refusal to show videos... so what I'm basically saying is, I hate New Years, and I'm going to use MTV as a scapegoat, as seems to be the fashion, not that I blame anyone. also, I want to send this to see what date is put on it. my computer's been acting up, not from Y2K, but because my computer illiterate mother has been tinkering with it *sigh* I'm sending this on January 1st, and if the date says DECEMBER 1st, I'm gonna have to go yell at her... sorry for all this. it's a test, but I figured I might as well write something as well. Message-ID: <20000101234442.969.qmail@web1903.mail.yahoo.com> There's some *major* misunderstanding going on about what happened at MTV's New Year's Eve extravaganza last night, and I wanted to try my best to clear things up and express my opinion on the whole matter at the same time. Carson Daly was interviewing No Doubt, and at the same time the Goos were doing a soundcheck. Mike was pounding on his drums and Johnny was mumbling something in his microphone, and the guys from No Doubt were struggling to be heard over the racket. So one of the guys from No Doubt asked if the Goo Goo Dolls could "shut up". I think he just wanted to be able to hear himself think, but wasn't being completely serious or intentionally being rude. Imagine how you guys would feel if someone was doing their soundcheck while the Goos were being interviewed. I don't even want to think about the controversy *that* would cause. I don't even like No Doubt, but you guys are attacking them for no reason. Some of you didn't even see this happen, but you're still acting as if the Goos were slandered. I don't mean to be rude or to single anyone out, but I really think everyone needs to go listen to Jed, scream a little bit, calm down, and then try your best to be happy and not take life so seriously. Okay? Can we do that? Well, even if you don't think it's a good idea, that's what *I'm* going to do! Talk to you guys later... -Elissa =) ===== "We were an alternative rock band when that meant something--when it wasn't a clever marketing euphemism for mainstream rock." **John Rzeznik of the Goo Goo Dolls** "Punk's not dead, it's just at Kmart!" ~*~Johnny Goo~*~ "We didn't think it was going to get played on the radio at all. Up, down, up down my eyes went!! Yummy!!! God he wears those pants well! 3) Now don't flame me...i like blink 182..but they sounded kinda off last nite. But the Goos sounded GREAT last nite! I guess 13+ years of practice helps doesn't it? My theroy is if a band can sound just as good live as on cd then they are a great band. (still waiting on hearing titty spears sing live..hmmmm?) 4) Thumbs up on the Goos picking Broadway to sing..smart choice! To play a song that isn't getting any play on the radio, to insure a new song to hold over until they come out with something new. Plus Broadway is a good choice for NYE in NEw York too. 5) Hooray! a new album is planned for this year from the goos! I can't wait to see what they come out with. 6) I had a great time last nite at my party and seeing John and the guys made my nite. I was getting goo withdrawls bad! Just couldn't sit down when Slide came on. Did you guys "jump up & down" on it too? Try doing it in a sequin dress and heels...LOL. 7) Carrie, I was gonna call you NYE your time but I forgot. I went to tvguide.com and found one more rerun of the 2Large Party on MTV. It will air on Sunday, January 2 at 9pm eastern. It runs until 11 only so I suspect it is the last 2 hours of the show (the 11pm to 1am section from New Years). It probably has the goos performing slide on it because they did that right at 11pm. I think that performance and a few clips in the closing credits is the only goo in that section of the show. I'll check to see if they plan to air the entire show again sometime. Hope this helps! Message-ID: <0.ea935ca9.25a00ef6@aol.com> Wow, is that weird to type! "00"! Happy New Year, my friends! This is the first Goo birthday wish of the new millenium, and it features a new Birthday Question for the month of January, thanks to Kristie (SaSSieGoO) who has a January birthday, and was hoping she wouldn't have to do the set list (too many good songs!)... The birthday question for the month is as follows: Which lyric/line of a Goo song has the most personal meaning to you? Why? Please send birthday wishes to: Athena AtakofLife@aol.com Here is Athena's response to my email: I'm Athena Rosser and I'm from the humidity capital of the world, Houston, Texas! I'm turning turning a grand old 26. (Does this mean I have to stop acting like a delinquent now?) It's really hard for me to narrow down just one lyric that means a lot to me since so much of their music means a lot to me. Depending on what day it is, may depend on which song it is. Today's lyric is from Lucky Star from Superstar Carwash. "And if I had an hourglass, I'd save the grains of time I spent with you." The reason for that one is because my Popaw Charlie died close to my 14th birthday and it's kind of hard not to think of him right now and all of the things we did. If I had had that hourglass, I'd have saved every grain. Because one day he was here and one day he wasn't. Good Goddess! I'm getting sentimental in my old age! Athena Pease take a few minutes to send birthday wishes directly to Athena, and not to the whole list. Not that anybody really cares, but I would like to give my take on the birthday question. I feel the same as Athena, it seems to change daily. I have one line from a Goo song taped to the inside of my credenza at work. It is from "James Dean" on Jed (which makes me luagh, every time I listen to it!), and it says "...I want to be oversexed and under worked..." Don't think I need to explain that one. But, the song that I have been listening to now is "So Outta Line" from HMU. There is one part that really gets me... "...one day ain't forever, you'll find your time. You look outside, it's snow, been snow so long you know, just feel like lettin' go...so outta line!" I can't explain why I like it...must be the Minnesotan in me (SNOW!), and the fact that I believe I will find my time in the coming year. My 20's have been pretty "cold" to me, and I feel like I have been hiding inside for a few years. I have been scared for 30, but I now think the best is yet to come...only 1 month of my 20's left, and I am very ready to "let go"! I have found so much happiness lately, and it is happiness with myself. Haven't had that feeling in about 4 years! Sorry to add all that, but I loved that question! Thanks for letting me vent, and thanks Kristie! Happy Birthday Athena! I hope you have a great day! kelly ...spread the Goo... ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 1 Jan 2000 21:18:26 EST To: goo@mailinglists.org From: DizzyGooGoo@aol.com Subject: NEW YEAR! Message-ID: <0.c103e634.25a00f72@aol.com> Gooey new year for me. I had 2 ppl over (big party) On being SlideintoGGd. The other wasn't exactly a goo fan. We watched MTV the whole time. Taped everylittle thing with them on it. We saw them perform Slide! At midnight we screamed and shouted outside ( verycold in Buffalo) We sang its the end of the world as we know it at the top of our lungs! Then we did SLIDE really loud! ( We weren't drunk, were only 13 yrs old) unless its possible to get drunk off sparkling grape juice!!! We then got bored so we forced the non GOO fan to watch Behind the music with the GGD! Then we made a radio station (WROK or WGGD or WGOO) We played everycd I had mostly Goo. Talked about GOO!!! Fianlly at around 4 am we went to sleep listening to name, repeating over and over. it became a tired song playing on a tired radio! It was still on when I woke up at 10. I was the only one awake at that point. Thats easy to fix just blast out of the red!!! And thats my Gooey New Years ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 1 Jan 2000 18:37:19 -0800 (PST) To: goo@mailinglists.org From: Jessie Subject: Complete List of Goo Appearances on 2Large Message-ID: <20000102023719.5421.qmail@web1403.mail.yahoo.com> Here is my list of what I taped from the goos appearance on MTV. I hope this helps people who still need to tape and if I missed something, please tell me. -About 45 minutes into the show, John and Robby talk to Carson for a few seconds and introduce Christina Agu...(the blonde in the tight pants proudly showing her belly, you know who) -About 55 minutes in, after Christina's performance, the goos chatted some more for a few minutes. (I think this one had the mooning story) -About 2 hours and 20-25 minutes into the show, the goos talked some more. This is just before they perform 'Broadway.' They come directly after 2 people talking outside with Thalia. The people are wearing bright red and yellow jackets (hard to miss). -About 2 hours and 30-40 minutes in the guys perform 'Broadway.' This comes directly after Carson talking with the band No Doubt. Wait for Carson to ask the question, "Does it feel weird to have time off?" (I think that is what he said), and the goos will be right after the answer. -About 3 hours and 20-30 minutes in, (rough estimate), MTV does a review of the Fly2K Contest. It's right after Thalia and Laura send a Blonde chick into the studio to hear 98 degrees, Ananda talks to 98 degrees about it. Start recording then. (The Blonde chick answers her question with "Apple"..that should help). -About 3 hours and 50 minutes into the show, the guys do an interview with Kurt Loder. It's right after an interview (i forget with who), the camera kinda races down a hall, like they were in the wrong spot. The guys are facing the window and Kurt says, "ok guys here we go." (MTV is always on top of things) -And then almost exactly 4 hours into the show, the guys perform 'Slide.' They are introduced by Mandy Moore and Carson (this is where she says she loves them). The clock in the corner of the TV screen says "11:02:20" when they are introduced...(the seconds might be wrong but you get the idea) -And finally, MTV runs the final credits 6 hours later and show 2 clips of the guys singing...(very short). Few!! There ya go. I hope this helps if they rerun the entire show, (which I suspect they will do because that is what MTV always does, rerun to death). If I have missed anything let me know. They will rerun the last 2 hours of the show sunday, 2 at 9pm (eastern). You can see the guys perform slide at the very beginning. Happy New Year All!! (finally, no more Y2K talk!) I love the Goos and think they're great musicians, but I'm not ashamed to say that if they still were doing their punk thing I wouldn't be a fan like I am now. I also know that in some of their interviews they talked about how after one or two of their earlier albums, they actually started "writing music" meaning they made harmonies and parts for their different instruments, so even the Goos started off with less emphasis on the technical aspects of the music. But not to say that they didn't have their hearts in music back then. With their long career has come a maturing process in which their music has also matured. Like I heard that Nick Carter of BSB is trying to learn how to play the guitar (good luck) and on the Millenium album, they did write a couple of their songs. So it's not like all bands start off with incredible ability--and not to sound all pro-Boy band or anything--but I think that it shows more if your mind and heart are in the right place, not necessarily if someone else made up your dance moves for you. Just some thought on the whole thing... Katie B. Thats why I wanted to let you all know in case you bid on it, it is not an original it is a reprint. He also would not give me back my money when I asked him to. ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 1 Jan 2000 22:20:13 EST To: goo@mailinglists.org From: TheRevoIution@aol.com Subject: Request: Live CD's/Bootleg CD's!
