First of all, I think(or hope, at least) that most of the people here asking about John's girlfriend are asking more out of sheer curiosity than the thought that they have a chance with him. Second of all, I highly doubt that anyone here thinks they actually *do* have a chance with John. First of all, he's substanially older tham many people here (including me). Second of all, and contrary to my health teacher's opinion, there are *not* that many teenage girls, or women, even, who would just hop in the sack with a rock star the second they got the chance. I mean, you might say you would, but when it comes right down to it, the chances that anyone would have sex with someone you've never met (and, even if you have, I doubt it's been for longer than 5 minutes, tops) is highly unlikely. Lastly, I think that anyone here who's jealous of his girlfriend, it's probbaly because she knows him so well. Personally, I wouldn't ever think of sleeping with, or dating, someone 17 years older than me. Please admit that it's ridiculous...cuz it just is. What I am jealous of, though, is that his girlfriend is getting the chance to go out with a guy so cool. I have yet to meet anyone with even a tenth of Johnny's coolness, and I'm totally happy for both of them, especially his girlfriend. I would really love to have the chance to get to know someone who's totally changed my life like John (and Robby and Mike) has. I would really appreciate ity if we could just *try* and drop this topic now. I'm not at all oppoised to discussing this aspect of the Goos' personal lives, it's just that there are *way* too many people at each other's throats because of this. So can we just drop it? Thanks.... --Caity, Queen of Da Ghetto Ratz p.s. I think this is a first for me...a non-bitchy, totally serious and 100 percent on-topic post...WOW!! GOO GOO DOLLS ON CRASH LANDING, OFF FLY2K 12/21/99, 12 p.m. ET) - The Goo Goo Dolls have spoken to LAUNCH about the=20 plane crash the band was involved in at the Sigonella naval air base in=20 Sicily on Sunday (Dec. 19) (LAUNCH, 12/20). Johnny Rzeznik told LAUNCH about dropping out of the sky. "We flew into a=20 thunderstorm. We flew into a huge thunderstorm, and the pilot tried to land=20 and he couldn=E2=80=99t, so then he went around and he tried to land again a= nd he=20 couldn=E2=80=99t, and then he tried to go around again and he couldn=E2=80= =99t land. And=20 then he went around again to try and get it and then he...I don't know what=20 happened, but that plane dropped! And it sounded like a bomb went off. And=20 out the window of the plane there was like all these sparks. And then we wen= t=20 off the runway and skidded through this field. The landing gear was=20 completely destroyed, and there were these two big holes in the wing." He added that only one oxygen mask came out, and one emergency exit was not=20 functioning, so they had to slide down the inflatable device on the back of=20 the ground to safety. "We were standing on this runway in this insane=20 torrential thunderstorm and we stood out there for like 15 to 20 minutes."=20 Everyone was told to run away from the plane in case it blew up. Rzeznik also told LAUNCH that he phoned up MTV bigwig Tom Calderone to tell=20 him that after what they went through, they=E2=80=99re not quite up to parti= cipating=20 in the channel's "Fly2K" contest. The band was supposed to fly to several=20 destinations picking up fans in cities such as London, Rome and Paris to=20 bring them back to Times Square in New York City to ring in the Millennium.=20 Rzeznik added that the band will honor its commitment to play in Times Squar= e=20 on New Year=E2=80=99s Eve. The band's plane, a C-9 transport plane, slid off the runway at the=20 Mediterranean island air base at around 9:30 p.m. local time. No one among=20 the 30 people on the plane--which included the band, their entourage, and=20 military personnel--was hurt in the accident. -- Darren Davis and Barry Jeckell, New York ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 21 Dec 1999 21:13:12 EST To: goo@mailinglists.org From: AtakofLife@aol.com Subject: Re: [GOO] one more thing Message-ID: <0.724f4150.25918db8@aol.com> And watch out for the frat boys too!!!!! If you want to see it, then let me know and i'll send it to you. If you want the pictures, then E-mail me and I will send you my address. The day after I get the money your pictures will be sent out. If anyone didn't get a chance to catch the address for the mag please email me privatly and I can work something out with you. You will have to be able to mail a SASE (large enough for a mag) with $.99 postage (thats 3 stamps) *******************ALSO************************ We have a list member who is lacking a bit on the maturity side (no names mentioned) and I would just like to apologize to those of you who cannot handle when someone voices a negative opinion about a band member... A few days ago I made a post about the "silent night" by Johnny and I said it was a bad song... I meant bad as in you couldn't even tell it was him and it sounded like they recorded it while he was singing over the phone... If this bothers you soooooo much that you have to email me and cuss me out and act like a 12 year old don't waste your time... you won't bother me. And if I am not allowed to post my opinion on a song even if it is a negative opinion could the person in charge let me know so I can avoid ruining any over-possesive fan's life! I feel that everyone on this list has a right to post their opinions on the band... thats what it is here for (to an extreme) but do you really think the hate mail is going to make me say "oh yes its the greatest song ever! !" well its not! I just thought I could tell people who may try desperatly like I did to get this tape that it isn't really worth it. I think that by someone telling me "hey don't buy this mag it isn't worth the $3.00" is quite helpful. do you flame them too? I am going to continue to voice my opinions on the band be them good or bad... they will all be honest. Why would someone try to land in something like that? Who was the guy on the ground that told him he could land in that? Why didn't anybody know we were coming in? That's the real one that I want to know." He added that the reality of the situation is still setting in. "I'm sure that in three days it's really gonna get to me. Like it's gonna sink in and I'm going to go, 'Oh man,' but here we are. I swear to God, somebody, something is watching out for us, because we walked away without a major incident." When asked if the crash would deter him from doing a USO tour in the future, Rzeznik said, "No, I'll definitely do it again. I've got nothing against the Navy. I just thought that pilot was irresponsible, and he endangered a lot of people's lives. I'm sure some people would say, 'No he saved everybody's life on that plane,' but my point is, we shouldn't have been put in a situation like that in the first place," he noted, referring to the pilot's decision to land in a severe thunderstorm. The Goo Goo Dolls are not exactly eager to get in a plane right now, which led them to cancel their appearance on MTV's "Fly2K" promotion (LAUNCH, 12/21>). "I'm going to play in New York, but we canceled us being on the flight from London to New York, because I'm just not into flying right now unless I absolutely have to. And Tom Calderone over at MTV was cool about it. He was like, 'Well, you know, you guys were just in a plane crash.'" -- Darren Davis, New York Van Morrison Click on the headlines below to read each news story. Message-ID: <0.18d21e07.25926ed3@aol.com> I work for a travel agency and we were just notified of this... I know many of you are concerned with the Goos but this kinda scares me... PUBLIC ANNOUNCEMENT U.S. DEPARTMENT OF STATE Office of the Spokesman WORLDWIDE CAUTION Terrorist Threat December 21, 1999 The U.S. Government believes that terrorists may be planning to conduct attacks including against official and non-official Americans, in and around the New Year period (from now through mid-January 2000) with particular emphasis on locations where large groups of people may congregate for millennial or religious festivities. The Government of Jordan, as it announced, has made several arrests in conjunction with one such possible incident. As a result of the intensive investigative work on this matter, we have learned that possible sites in Jordan may have included hotels, tour buses, and tourist sites. We cannot rule out the possibility that attacks still may be planned for this and other parts of the world. American citizens overseas during the period are urged to review their security practices, to remain vigilant to their surroundings and to exercise caution. American citizens should avoid large crowds and gatherings, keep a low profile, and vary routes and times of all required travel. American citizens traveling or residing abroad should regularly monitor our Consular Information Program Internet website at http://travel.state.gov to obtain the latest information available in our Consular Information Sheets, Public Announcements, Travel Warnings, and regional brochures. We will continue to provide updated information if it becomes available. American citizens overseas may contact the American Citizens Services unit of their nearest U.S. Embassy or Consulate by telephone or fax for up-to-date information on security conditions. This Public Announcement replaces the December 11, 1999 Worldwide Caution - Terrorist Threat Public Announcement and supplements the November 5, 1999 Worldwide Caution, the October 5, 1999 Worldwide Caution-Khobar Towers, and the November 12, 1999 Worldwide Caution - Taliban Sanctions Public Announcements. It also supplements the Public Announcement for Jordan issued December 15, 1999. This Public Announcement expires on March 9, 2000. Department of State travel information and publications are available at Internet address: http://travel.state.gov. U.S. travelers may hear recorded information by calling the Department of State in Washington, D.C. at 202-647-5225 from their touchtone telephone, or receive information by automated telefax by dialing 202-647-3000 from their fax machine. ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 22 Dec 1999 13:21:51 EST To: Rzeznilininakac@aol.com, goo@mailinglists.org From: JESS4GGD@aol.com Subject: Re: [GOO] Global Terrorist Threat... We're all either gonna get nuked by some crazy ass terrorists or we're gonna get killed by the Y2K bug. So.....my thought is to "Party Like It's 1999" throughout the next few days. This way when it all happens, we'll be passed out drunk and really won't give a crap what happens!! As for me, I'm stocking up on Belvedere vodka, throwing my computer out the window, putting on my Kevlar suit (to protect me from the radiation), and putting "Cuz Your Gone" in my CD player!! That should just about cover everything. In my book, any "excuse" to drink and party is a damn good one!!!! Besides, if it all works out, I'll know that I'm fully "rehearsed" for a part in the "Broadway" video!!! :>) RobbieBoy (NaMeD gOo)!!
