I normally do not post much to the mailing lists that I'm on, but this list has compelled me to make a couple posts in the span of a week. I understand the frustrations that you can have when you are trading with someone and it doesn't go like you want it to. It's also viable to post about "traders" that are unscrupulous so others are taken by them too. But, it seems as if Addie is actually trying to fulfill her orders but it has become overwhelming to her. It doesn't seem as if she is ignoring emails from people inquiring about when they are to get their videos - I think the communication lines are wide open in regards to people contacting her. I normally see at least one post from her a day regarding one thing or another. I for one would not tolerate "hate mail" from anyone. It's not something that any of us should be subjected to. Now, I do not know Addie and I have not dealt with her in a business fashion so I may be speaking out of turn by trying to defend her. But...I think that everyone needs to chill a bit and consider that it takes time to copy tapes and get to the post office and if she doesn't have her own car (or maybe she can't even drive yet, I don't know) it makes it more difficult. I just think that if you are involved in a trade or business deal with her, try to resolve it OFF LIST instead of venting to the list every time you are upset with her. I for one would appreciate it and I know I am not alone. Now, if anyone has any problems with this post, please email me directly. As for trading, it is up to you not to trade with people, if you are getting too many trades at once, simply tell people that you are not taking any trades for x number of weeks. I am busy here with finals for college, working extra hours at work for people who are on vaction and doing about 5 trades at once, all the people who have messaged me about trades the past week to week and a half, I have let them know that I am going to be busy thru x-mas, so their cds won't be out till then, or I tell them to wait, and I will get them after x-mas. That way no one's feelings get hurt, and no one feels like they are being screwed over. Addie, the people that sent you their trades, spent their money, too, to get them to you. You stated once you were doing 35 trades in one week. Either people sent you 35 things, or $10. each, the price that used to be on your tapes. So as sincere as your plea might be, there is that to consider. You either have their things, or their money. If you were not able to send out what you promised, then the trade should not of been promised to begin with. That is called fraud. You are upsetting many people all at once: 1) the person you are flaming; 2) people who are friends of the person flamed, or people who do not see things your way; and 3) people like me who are not involved, don't wish to be involved, and are tired of seeing others act out in stupidity because they can't control their anger. When I see people act out with anger, hatred and things of the like it makes me cry. Yes I am crying right now. Why? Because there is nothing I can do to make you realize why you have it so lucky and all these things you vent about are nothing important really. Think about it. I could place you in the middle of the desert in some country you don't know, with no food or water, no family, no shelter, no money, no hope for life. Now are you going to tell me you really think it's necessary for us to know that you got your tape late from someone you were trading with (regardless who that person is)? If you do think I must know who you don't like, then you need a reality check. For all those who are in agreement with what I said (some have already voiced your opinions which are similar to mine), thank you for not joining in the flame war. I'm not trying to flame anyone directly, actually I'm not trying to flame at all. I normally do not post much to the mailing lists that I'm on, but this list has compelled me to make a couple posts in the span of a week. I understand the frustrations that you can have when you are trading with someone and it doesn't go like you want it to. It's also viable to post about "traders" that are unscrupulous so others are taken by them too. But, it seems as if Addie is actually trying to fulfill her orders but it has become overwhelming to her. It doesn't seem as if she is ignoring emails from people inquiring about when they are to get their videos - I think the communication lines are wide open in regards to people contacting her. I normally see at least one post from her a day regarding one thing or another. I for one would not tolerate "hate mail" from anyone. It's not something that any of us should be subjected to. Now, I do not know Addie and I have not dealt with her in a business fashion so I may be speaking out of turn by trying to defend her. But...I think that everyone needs to chill a bit and consider that it takes time to copy tapes and get to the post office and if she doesn't have her own car (or maybe she can't even drive yet, I don't know) it makes it more difficult. I just think that if you are involved in a trade or business deal with her, try to resolve it OFF LIST instead of venting to the list every time you are upset with her. What I can assure you though, that their contract was no different than hundreds of thousands of contracts signed with unknown bands around the country. Do you have any clue how much it costs to record, produce, manufacture, distribute, and promote a record? Metal Blade signed the Goo Goo Dolls based on the the album we know as "First Release." It is a bad punk album (I love the Goos, and I love punk, but, this album IS bad). Metal Blade signed them expecting to sell, AT BEST, a few thousand copies of the bands albums. That is not enough for them to make a profit. NO small, unknown band makes a profit from their label selling records. As a matter of fact, many many bands end up owing their label money, especially if the label gives them the money to make a video (Metal Blade financed THREE videos for the Goos). The label spends their money manufacturing, distributing and promoting the record, and they in turn, get, rightfully so, the proceeds from those album sales. Bands make their money by touring. You get a cut of the door and bar, sell T-shirts, sell a few records at the shows. . .That is how "indy rock" works. Based on the First Release, nobody would have guessed that the Goo Goo Dolls would become the band they are today. So, we can't look back with today's eyes (and ears) and judge the contract that the band signed (and, yes they did sign it) with Metal Blade (who, I am willing to bet, did not even break even on the band until Superstar Car Wash, or make a profit until A Boy Named Goo). I don't think I explained that very well, and, I'm sorry if I've confused anyone. If it didn't make sense, feel free to ask for clarification. STOP IT! This board is not set up to argue if a person doesn't send you a tape on time or makes a bunch of stupid excuses for the reasons why it's late. I could start making a million excuses for why it took a couple of days to write this letter to the list, but since my friends Barracuda got hungry and ate the g, j, p, e, and 5 keys off my keyboard, it was real hard to type. And then they had to make me a special keyboard and ship it in a 15 x 8 parcel post letter that got transferred through Uganda.... Enough of this crap. I hate to come off again like a bad guy, trust me, I'm not, and those that have met me can vouch for me, but being that I try to help Bryan moderate this list, I'm telling you all that if this list doesn't shape up, you are all going to lose one of your primary sources of Goo information. I'm not looking for any arguements regarding this, only for the amount of unrelated and multiple posts to be decreased. I have been on this list for a very long time and would hate for Bryan to say, "Forget it, if nobody could follow simple guidelines, then I'm ending the Goo mailing list", but honestly, he must have a lot more patience than I do. And to answer a question about if the guys form the Goos are online. From alll the conversations that I have been in or heard, NO. But do you think they would want to be on it?
