The way everyone was carrying on about it, I thought the magazine was hard to come by, but apparently all you have to do is drop by a (larger) bookstore (if you're like me and don't have a Tower Records where you live). A couple other things: My local Circuit City used to have a copy of the first release, but by now it's long gone. I already have it in my collection, but I just now realized it would make the perfect Christmas present for a friend of mine, and I'm really kicking myself for not buying it the first time I saw it (I just never figured I'd need two copies). Anyway, today Circuit City *did* have the Iris/Slide single with the album version and acoustic version of both tracks. They also had an older pressing of Hold Me Up - Priority # P2 53917. To insure that I don't buy another copy of Hold Me Up identical to the one I already own, could someone please verify for me that this pressing is a blue disk rather than a black one? -Elissa =) P.S. Well....I was expecting something really cool for the presskit, but I was very dissapointed. The "presskit" came in a green-blue folder that said "Goo Goo Dolls" and "Jed" under it. Inside the folder was a cheap some what bio sheet that is just plain green paper w/ some info (it was good info tho) and is something I can easily make copies of if anyone wants one. And on the other side of the folder was a promo picture. The EXACT same one I ordered that costs $6, the ABNG one where they're in front of a sparkly backdrop. That was IT for the presskit, a cheap folder, a bio sheet, and an pic that wasnt even from the JED days. So, if anyone wanted the JED "presskit" dont waste $12, all u have do to is buy that pic for $6 (which i have 2 of now) and I can easily type up the info that was on the sheet or make copies of it. Just let me know! I hope this saved some hassle for people. And if anyone got something different for their presskit PLEASE let me know. I sent off the money for mine the exact same day I got the magazine which was about 2-3 weeks ago. ...ALSO, I'm very low on cash and I have quite a bit of old/new Goo stuff. Unfortuantly I can't get anymore since they came out in July, 99 there, but I wanted to share the article with anyone who wanted it. It is written entirely in Dutch but he was very kind in translating the article for me. It's a page and a half with the half page a picture of JOhnny from the Rolling Stone fashion spred when he's standing in the doorway holding a shirt. Also a small picture of the whole band infront of a swimming pool like the Zone mag cover except John is holding up his arm and smiling. GOO GOO DOLLS lived ten long years in poverty! Goo Goo Dolls are really deternined, because for ten years they try to make a breakthrough. You can understand that the guys didn't have so much money all those years. "We just have gone our own way, either we do have success or not," says guitarist/singer John Rzeznik (the first "z" is not pronounced), "but finally everything did work out right..." What luck have the Goo Goo Dolls. Their song Iris, which came from the soundtrack of the movie City of Angels, became a big, big hit in very many countries. This brought a lot of joy to John Rzeznik, guitarist and singer, but also to the rest of the band, Robby Takac, bassist/singer and the drummerMike Mailinin. As said before, Goo Goo Dolls exist already very long. John and Robby were only teenagers when the band did start. "In those days we did it all very wrong", tells John. "We were known for drinking a lot and having "heavy" songs because of their lyrics. That wasn't approved in those days. We were just to rude." After this period they tried it with covers, but that came out to be not the right formula. In 1996 drummer Mike joined the band and then the band became really "serious". That's because he took care that certain goals were agreed and that was something that had never been done before. Their hobby became from that moment their work. A new record was in the record stores in a moment. 'Four nights a week I had a delirium' "Insane, a madhouse!" cried John Rzeznik when he heard that his band was nominated for three Grammy's in 1995. Something were he had worked for very hard from his teens had become reality: finally his band got recognition. Till that day John had tried to find that with his parents, but every time they said to him: "go do something with your school, son." His father died when he was seventeen. From that moment he was on his own, because his mother couldn't back him up in those days. John asked himself questions like: "what do I want to do wiht the rest of my life?" and : " where do I want to like this time? Because he was determined to leave his parental house. He became a punker, drank very much beer and whiskey and four nights a week he had a delirium. Through his girlfriend he came in contact with Robby Takac finally, with whom he did start the Goo Goo Dolls- adventure immediately. The band name was found in an advertisement which they had seen in a magazine. When they were twenty they got their first record contract. And three years later John married Laurie Farinacci. All is well that ends well... 'Drugs only make you worse!' Though the Goo Goo Dolls really were a band of sex, drugs and Rock & Roll in the beginning of their career, now they don't do booze and drugs. "Every gig is one big party", tells Mike. "But when I see how certain people in the crowd misbehave, then I think to myself: he or she should drink less." Some people say booze brings a better mood. I should say to them: it brings a worse mood. People start to behave different: more aggressive and pawing. That ruins it for the other people, because in the end they start to fight. And that is not the purpose of our music. Drugs have an even worse effect. Don't even talk about it. Just don't do drugs! It doesn't make you better; it only makes you worse! Go-Go Sex?? How is it with the rought image of the guys? That exceeds one's expectations. The guitarist is rather heavy married and also the other guys seem to be heavily henpecked. "It's just very cool to share your life with someone," says John. "When you feel fucked up, it's good to lay down against someone and to hug." This may sound rather strange form someone in a rockband, form whom you might expect that everything goes a little loose. No way! John: "I won't say too much about it, otherwise I'll make such a slimy impression. But in my youth I did go through a deep valley. I had to become mature very early by the fact that I had to do it all by myself on such a young age. And that has an impact on you, which won't go away even when you become older. Believe me, when I was fifteen I even thought: "Marrying? Never!" And take a look at me now!
