I've been told that, even though I'm not quite 16 yet, I seem much more mature, hardly EVER having sex on the brain, only, obviously, when I'm with my boyfriend, who I would NEVER cheat on, not even with John! I know that SOME teens only think about sex, but most of us listen to music we like because it's good music, NOT because of the guys who sing it being hot. I, personally, like a few of the boy bands (don't flame me for this), and it has NOTHING to do with their looks. I also think that most of them are ugly, I just enjoy the music. No I'm not calling 16 year olds little kids, trust me, I'm not even there yet. But he really seems to like them. He doesn't always give out guitars to somebody that says it's their b-day, referring to the Atlanta show on 9/2. At every Goo concert I've been to, Johns had this thing for the smaller children in the audience. So I think it's pretty obvious he appreciates all of the fans, young and old, as long as they enjoy themselves. We've also got to remember that age is not neccesarily important, everyone matures at a different level, and it seems to me that the younger fans on the list are some of the ones that mature faster, considering that they have respect for their music. Anyways, that's just my thoughts... I have been trying to be creative about it (any of you that know me know what a chore this is!), and decided just to be staright about it. I would like to say how much I appreciate Johnny (and Robby and Mike) sharing his incredible talents with us. Their music, for me, is always thought provoking, sometimes funny, sometimes sad, but seems to me to come directly from their hearts. Most bands these days don't even write their own stuff, and if they do it is total fluff. Their music is real, and I think that is why it touches so many people. So, my birthday wish for Johnny is as follows: I hope this year brings you all the things you want and deserve. I hope you are as happy as you have made us, your fans. You have spent the last 16 months giving to us, and I hope you are able to take time this year, and give to yourself. You deserve the time to enjoy your success. Take pleasure in it! I am sorry to make everybody read that, I don't claim to speak for everybody. That actually came to me at about 2 am. Couldn't sleep, until that appeared. As always, please email me if you would like to be a part of the birthday list. I have had incredible responses, and I truly believe the people on this list are the most amazing fans on the planet! I am also still looking for suggestions regarding the Birthday Question. I need one for January...please help! In the case of the Goo's, who sing and play, do they record it all at one time? I thought that they would like record the music part first and then the singing and then do all the mixing. Very few bands record "live" (meaning, they all get to together, play the song like they would in concert, and record it that way). It is very hard to control the sound that way, if one person messes up, well, the whole recording is shot. Usually, everything is recorded separately, and, then, when the music is complete, the vocals are recorded to the actual music. Even very few albums that are recorded in concert, by the time they make it to the public, are truly "live" any more. Most bands will take the basic tracks back to the studio, do some re-recording, to fix goofs, glitches, etc, and remix it so it sounds better. Have a great day, Russell oh, and PS to everyone. . .please, please, please, John does NOT read this list. . .it is only 10 am here in California, and I've already got about 40 happy birthday messages. Please, it does no good to post that to the list, all it does is make the people who are already upset about the overly heavy traffic on this list even more mad, and increase the chances that Bryan will start moderating the list again. I'd assume most people don't want that, but, if you abuse the list, it will happen, just like it has in the past. Being a relatively new Goo fan (I've only really liked them for about a year now), I had no clue about Johnny's past till I watched Biorhythm. Now, when I hear "Iris," I hear echos of Johnny's life and depression in the lyrics, not Nicholas Cage's character. Now a song that people relate to a movie is "My heart will go on." I think most people think Titanic when they hear that one. dizzygrl@icx.net wrote: > > They were just on 9 days that rocked the 90's on MTV. I met up with 4 people my age at the concert, there were also about 4 people in front of me probably not older than 16, who stood there throughout the concert just singing along and having fun. I was disgusted by the lady in back of me flaunting her cleavage as if she were a gift from God. She was probably around 25-32 I'd guess. I'm sure there were plenty of teens also screaming, but most of them are just infatuated and wouldn't say stuff like, "I Wanna **** YOU JOHNNY!" or flash their breasts at him. Most of us have our decency. Most of the people who do stuff like that are much older than the age of 16. There are people on the list in their late 20s and 30s who seem to drool much more over John than the teens...Hell, they even made their little Drool Club. I have nothing against that at all. So what's my point? There are people of ALL ages who do stuff like this. Will this point stop the steriotyping? No, but maybe it'll make those people who do it keep their mouths shut, 'cause a lot of the time, they're dead wrong. I, along with all of my friends, go to concerts to have fun and listen to the music. MOST people do....people of all ages. Message-ID: <19991205184624.9158.qmail@hotmail.com> Now, I'm definitely insulted. For you "older, mature" Goo fans out there, how mature does it make you to sit there and insult the younger fans? Not all of us are those crazed fans that flash the band yell "Johnny, meet me in the parking lot!". Be realistic. We know that John gets thousands of people yelling that at him every night and what would make us think that he would actually pay attention to one of us yelling that. I'm sure he appreciates that people think he is attractive but still. As for me and I'm assuming most of the younger fans (I'm almost 16), I went to see the Goos in October and I simply went because I am crazy about their music as well as them. I think they are by far the greatest band around. They've come so far and deserve to be appreciated. Now I will admit, I do think John is very attractive but that is not the reason I go and sing my lungs out at the Goos concerts. I would not pay 20 something bucks to go stare at a "hot" guy. But I would go pay 20 bucks and more to go see a great band that plays because they like to play and want to share their music with other people. You should not make generalizations about people that you do not know and the way they feel about things. ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 05 Dec 1999 10:48:16 PST To: goo@mailinglists.org From: "Traci Bedard" Subject: Happy 34th JR!!! ;-) Message-ID: <19991205184816.39177.qmail@hotmail.com> To the man who has made a difference in my life... The difference is very subtle, actually, just in the spoken word intro to the song. Since I am SUCH a nice guy (LOL) I've made an MP3 of JUST the intro of the song, so you can compare to the version on the Hold Me Up CD that I am sure that you already all own. Because I just encoded the intro, the file is very small (224 K), so even AOL users can receive it in their email. If you want the MP3, email me, and I'll send it out to you. Have a great day! I'm glad to see that some of you enjoyed it. But then the hate mail started to flow in about the "age thing", and I'm sorry I even brought up this whole topic. A lot of you took what I said WAY out of context. For the sake of ending this absurd "old vs. young" debate (didn't we cover this a while ago?), allow me to clarify and rephrase what I said. Original post: "It's a very sentimental song (which has a profound impact on my own life, by the way), and I would really enjoy hearing it if it weren't for all the 16-year-olds screaming "I LOVE YOU JOHNNY!!!" In retrospect, this is what I SHOULD have said (changes within the asterisks): It's a very sentimental song (which has a profound impact on my own life, by the way), and I would really enjoy hearing it if it weren't for all the *very rude people* screaming "I LOVE YOU JOHNNY!!!" I should have known that the 16-year-old comment was going to be controversial. I know that not all younger fans act that way, and I know that not all fans that act like that are young. In stereotyping the younger fans as participating in this type of behavior, I was dumb, and I was wrong, and I apologize. However, please keep in mind that the age of the fan wasn't my point. I was complaining about the lack of maturity and/or tact on the part of such people. Old, young, it doesn't matter - anyone of any age can have the capacity to be an immature jerk. I have nothing against younger Goo fans. After all, I was 17 (I'm nearly 24 now) when I first got into Goo, so I would have been considered "young" then myself. I'm happy that the younger people bring so much energy to a show (more than my "old" body can withstand these days). Hell, I saw kids at all three shows who probably weren't even BORN when Hold Me Up came out, and I think that's great! Just remember that there's a time and place for everything, and screaming like that during "Acoustic #3" is about as appropriate as wearing jeans and a T-shirt to a fancy restaurant. Just let the man SING! So, let's review: 1) People who act like jerks at concerts suck, regardless of age 2) People who are young do not necessarily suck unless condition 1) is true 3) I stuck my foot in my mouth, and I made nice, now let's forget about it 4) People who get drunk at concerts and puke on people still suck Got it? Good. Have a nice day everyone, Mike ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 5 Dec 1999 18:58:59 -0500 (EST) To: "Michael J. This little section is non-goo: So MTV had this little commercial on today. It was a commercial for 1999 being the year of rock. And in this commercial, with "year of rock" (or whatever rock-related slogan) running across the screen, the showed artists including: BSB, NSYNC, 98 degrees, britney spears, christina aguilera etc. I am not dissing these artists just...it was a ROCK commercial! Those would most definitely be pop artists, no?! Goo's on MTV: I was watching MTV Spring Break uncensored too. (ok, so i did nothing but watch MTV today...) Subject: young vs. old discussion Message-ID: <19991206003801.43989.qmail@hotmail.com> Hey kiddies! (no intention on saying people are kids - that's my term that I lovingly call my list buddies!) Now, why don't we just kill this young vs. old business. There are some posts that are getting to be quite nasty, and nastiness and harbouring feelings of anger and whatnot is not a good thing. Why can't we all just get along??? I do believe that Mike clarified his/her? post - no harm intended. Age, in my mind, does not matter - what matters is maturity level (and intelligence sometimes as well - but that's a different story). So - you can be one of the younger fans (which is really cool that you listen to the GGDs rather than Britney Spears or InSynch or BSBs and whoever else - my liking of them shows here - not even sure if I spelled their names correctly - I wish that I knew of the GGDs when I was in my teens - I wound up listening to New Kids on the Block - yuck - what was I thinking??), and be as mature as some of the older fans (I still consider myself young - I'm 22 - yet am rather mature - most would consider me to be near 30 with my maturity level) - and there's nothing wrong with that. Awesome - more power to you. You'll be way more equipped to dealing with the world and whatnot. Cool. Now, agreed, there can be some (well, multiple from what I've recently seen) older persons that can be as immature as hell - and well, that's how they work. Good luck to them. I do have to say that I have been rather impressed with the level of, hmm, how should I put it, maturity and expression that some of the younger list persons have been exhibiting by their posts. You've adequately proved your point (that was never the issue, however, cool that you did and expressed yourself in the manner that you did) - now, very politely, lets move on to something else, please???? Message-ID: <19991206015146.43748.qmail@hotmail.com> o.k. sorry this is going to be really long and some of ya are gonna wanna just delete it, but i had so many semi-goo encounters with the guys families and i even saw robby in a bar!! going to the buffalo shows on dec. 2 & 3 was definitely the best thing i ever did! o.k. so i'll try to start from the begining and not leave too much out but also try not to make this too long. so on thurs. morning we all woke up at 3:30am to drive to buffalo cuz i live in Grand Rapids, MI so we had a long way to go. by the time we got there it was 2:00 and so we checked into the Radisson, and all of the goos roadies were staying in the exact same hotel as us, and 2 of them (Rodney and Cindy) even recognized me and my friend from the Oct. 16 concert at MSU! so after we checked in we met up with Haley who's also on this list. (HI!!) and we were just hanging out in the lobby and stuff and we kept seeing all these roadies so we thought maybe we would see the goos but we never did. then we went to the venue at around 5. and we knew the local radio station was doing an interview so we tryed to get in to see it, but of course no one would let us in. so finally we just found this front door on the very end that was open so we decided to go in and check it out. my friend naomi got stopped, but haley and i made it in. so my one friend that got caught actually told on us so there were these people looking for us, so we hid in the bathroom and then after awhile we heard these bands doing sound check, and it was cool cuz we got to see all the opening bands do their sound checks, but not the goos cuz they had done their's earlier. then it was close to 7 when they were letting people in and we had to try to find a way to get out, which was even harder than getting in cuz there were all these people in there. so we just walked around like we belonged there and we were right in the middle of a crowd of security guards and they never said anything. we saw MTV and a couple local radio stations interviewing i think the opening bands. o.k. this is really long and this isn't even the best part so i'll try to hurry up. o.k. so i turned in my toy for the toy drive and i got my autographed pic. *sigh* and the concert was awesome!! i was in the balcony but you could still see everything. and they played 1000 words which was my first time ever hearing it and GooGooaLoo. but the crowd was just sitting there in the balcony and a lot of people had no clue what any of the songs from SSCW were, they played Another Second Time Around, and this one guy near me was like what the hell is this? but robby and johnny actually came off stage a lot and robby even kissed some people in the front row on the head! johnny told the BSB dream joke and the lottery joke. then after the concert i met up with some more people from the mailing list and haley pointed Laurie out to me, so that was cool that i got to stand like 3 feet away from john's wife!! then after the show we were waiting for the band to come out and we saw Dave leave on foot and we missed Nathan, but we saw both Johnny and Mike leave by car. see there was this decoy van that came out of the garage so everyone was watching it and they had someone in it that looked kinda like johnny, but i was like no way, so i turned around and they had actually come out right behind us and were in this i think it was a convertible. and johnny turned around and smiled at us! and then they were gone but johnny smiled at us so i was happy. and then we saw robby get rushed across the street on foot. and eventually everyone left and my friend naomi said that she could swear she saw robby go into a bar across the street, so we walked over there and there were 2 bars right next to each other. (i swear that entire town is full of nothing but bars and churches!! i mean it was a really awesome town, but it was weird..) so we walked past McCoy's this one bar and i just sorta glanced in the window, and i saw robby's face staring right back at me smiling!!! and i was so shocked i just gasped and pointed and said look! and my 2 friends turned and looked and then i waved to robby and he had his face really close to the glass and he was like making all these faces at us and stuff. and he was like a foot away from me with nothing seperating us but the glass!! so then haha we decided to try and get into the bar. but i'm only 16 and my 2 friends are 17 so it was kinda hopeless. but we were in there for like 2 mins. and haley touched robby's jacket! then we got kicked out. opps... so that was the first night, and if you're still reading this then you're insane. o.k. so friday haley had to leave ): and it was just me and naomi and we went to go see john's house cuz someone had given me directions and it looked exactly the same as the house in Vh1's Behind the Music but it was painted a little differently. then we saw all these places that are in the SSCW cd booklet thingy. and i even saw a funeral home called Amigone which was really weird and i saw all these other things that are mentioned in songs and stuff. then i met up with more people from the list and we met reena who was really nice and we got our tix for that night which were on the floor so i was happy. getting ready for the show we listend to the radio and heard all these interviews with johnny and then at the concert i brought another toy so i got another pic. and i entered a raffle to win a guitar signed by them. and we saw this one security guard for the goos for when they're in western NY and we had met him the night before and so he was nice to us and we talked to him for awhile cuz he's known the goos forever. then inside the venue we talked to robby's next door neighbor and just all kinds of people who had grown up with them. and the show was of course awesome!! and robby said hi to his grandma which was really sweet cuz she was there. and john and robby even wrestled on stage towards the end!! and of course they were throwing confetti all over the place and we saw the greed video right before the encore. and security was really strict about cameras but i managed to take only 3 pics cuz security was everywhere. then after the show i dragged my friend up to the stage, and i got a guitar pic from one of the roadies and then we went outside to try and see the goos again. and the guard with the accent (i don't know his name, but he's the one we had met before and so he was nice to us and stuff but most of the roadies were a lot meaner than i thought they would be.) so he told us to stay there and the goos would be coming out that way. and he started lying to everyone else and telling them to go around back and the goos would be out in a couple hrs. so it was raining and really cold, so a lot of people left. and we watched the roadies play hockey which was cool. and some guy brought us more guitar pics, and mine has been used so much that the picture is so faded you can barely see it. then finally just me and Naomi and these 2 other women were left, so the guard guy was like o.k. i'll show you what's really going on, and he led us to this place called the Trough Room by the Troughamadore (i so cannot spell!) Cafe. (i think that's what it's called) and he said the goos were having a private surprize party thrown by MTV. so there were a lot of guards and stuff so we couldn't get in, but it was cool that the goos were partying right over our heads! wow sorry this is so long, you probably won't even care about it all, but that was my goo weekend!! there was a lot more but i think that's enough for now! Bryan wrote those guidelines for us to follow so he would not have to moderate the list. I think everyone would agree, that we should be moderating OURSELVES, not having someone else moderate for us. So, please, please, take a few moments, and follow the link below, and re-read the list policies. I have had literally 2 dozen people write me in the last three days and tell me that they think the list should be moderated, and, the way the list is going, I see that happening in the very near future. But, if we all follow the rules, that wont have to happen. This list IS here for everyone to have fun, and share our love of the Goos, but, we've really been pushing it way too far. I'm sorry to sound like such an old-fart, those who know me can assure you that I am far from it, but, I for one don't want to lose this list, and I think, on that, we can all agree. http://members.tripod.com/~penberth/policy.html Have a great week! Also, I am looking for ANY pics, reviews, and encounters for my site! Please! I know a lot of you went to the Buffalo shows, can I use your reviews? I only have 3 right now, and 2 of them are mine! :oP Plus - I am hoping to make my site, Dizziness, (http://www.gurlpages.com/music/goo-goo-girl) more international. I had a gooey dream the other night and since some people have been sharing theirs I thought what the heck! I was at a goo concert in the 3rd row. Robby jumped off stage and came right to me and hugged me and spun me around. Then I saw Johnny start coming to the end the stage. He sat down on the edge so I went up to him and tried giving him a hug but he ignored me and suddenly turned into the Johnny from Rocker Room (before they were rockstars). Then the setting suddenly changed to my house and Johnny took a girl outside (it was at night) and they went off to f**k. My friend (I don't know who) and her brother (who was dressed up as a superhero) were at my house and we were outside. I was sad bc Johnny hurt my feelings. Anyway my friends brother decided to go find them and he ran off. My friend and I went into the house and then Johnny and the girl came running back in in their underwear bc my friends brother scared them. (BTW Johnny was still Rocker Room Johnny) That was my DREAM. So, sorry if the part where Johnny goes with the girl makes you mad, but it was a dream so please don't flame me. I have no earthly idea WHY that got in the dream. Bye! With today being Johnny's b-day, I thought I'd post what my newspaper said for the horoscope for those born today. so here goes: IF DEC 5 is your birthday, you are inquisitive - a natural reporter, investigator - and have insatiable curiosity. You also are attractive, dynamic and at times can be dramatic (DOES THIS FIT JOHNNY OR WHAT?) Gemini, Virgo, Saggittarius natives play major roles, could have these letters, initials in names: E, N, W. Throughout past year, you let go of obligations not rightly your own in first place. July will be memorable. -- "I believe the sun should never set upon an argument. I believe we place our happiness in other people's hands. Message-ID: <214-384BCFAF-20944@storefull-172.iap.bryant.webtv.net> This E-Mail is rated "G" and is suitable for all audiences..............Hey GOOHeads! Well, I am back from Buffalo (once again)!! I've caught up on some of my sleep, considering that I slept for only 4 hours the entire trip! I'm not into writing concert reviews and stuff like that. So, I'm just going to share a few thoughts on my Buffalo "experience". By the way, most of the stuff in here will probably make a LOT more sense to certain individuals who were there. Don't worry.....all the names will be omitted to protect the innocent (more like guilty)! Anyway, let me first just say that if anyone has pictures of RobbieBoy (NaMeD gOo) on their camera (especially pictures of me in compromising positions!), I will be expecting copies of them. E-mail me and I will give you my address to send them. I don't wish to see them on eBay! Hahaha Seriously, I must say that these past few days have had a deep and profound impact on me. I'm not going to go into details and specifics, but I know that I was definitely moved and "immersed" by all of it. (I guess that's why I came back to Buffalo, huh??) The shows were awesome, but that was only really a part of it. It really all comes down to one word....."People". Through my time in Buffalo, I got to meet so many interesting people from different walks of life. We all came together to share our common bond.....of The Goo Goo Dolls. It was that bond that brought us close together (some closer than others...hahaha) and united us. I am so grateful for having the experience to spend time with all those I met. It's great to put a face to the e-mail address. If I were given this opportunity again, I would definitely jump on it in a second. The effects were monumental for me! By the way, I must tell you that I won the official JoeGoo "Die Hard Fan Award" for all my efforts in Buffalo. It's so humbling to accept this from another "Goo Freak" and I can assure you that I will continue to live up to the expectations of this award. I will always live my life as "One Crazy Goo Fan"!!!!! Incidently, it also has been brought to my attention that there was some question or concern as to some "vacuum like" marks on my neck during this Goo trip. I can assure you that they are solely the result of being hit with flying confetti at the shows. They were by no means inflicted upon me by other individuals. Anyway, that's enough from me. Thanks for reading and thanks for being the awesome fans that you are! I know The Goos certainly appreciate you and I do to! :>) RobbieBoy (NaMeD gOo)!! ..........Remember to contact (or blackmail) me if you have any pictures! :>) Love Always, ~RobbieBoy~ ------------------------------ End of goo Digest ***********************************
