It really doesn't matter to me and I don't understand why it's such a big deal if you're 30 or 13. All that matters is if you're a real Goo Goo Dolls fan. I've been a fan since I was nine and I'm sixteen now. I don't want to be categorized as something because I'm sixteen and I don't think it's fair to judge anyone on this list because of their age. PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE...do what Caity said and use the CUT AND PASTE function!!!!! Failing that, please take a look at the "send to" box (before you hit the "send" button) to make sure your "personal" mail is not going to the whole list. Folks are starting to snap at each other because of some of this "personal" mail and quite frankly, if the problem isn't solved soon, I'll be saying Adios to this list. I can't take much more. For the most part I love this list..yes..sometimes the posts are trivial...but I've learned a lot of neat stuff by being here, too. Can we accept the fact that....as human beings, we are all unique? In the immortal words of Rodney King "Can't we all just get along?" CUTTING AND PASTING: Highlight the e-mail address of the person you wish to reply to. Once it's highlighted, click your right mouse button. A menu should pop up. Click on "cut". Go to "compose mail" (or if you hit the reply button on the received mail) delete the Goo List addy and make sure your cursor is in the "send to" box. Right click on your mouse again and choose "paste". The correct address should now be where it's supposed to be. I love you all because each of you are special in your own unique way. Have a wonderful day and God Bless. Hello everyone. Before I post my simple request, I'm going to tell you all a story. Yesterday, I went on to check my mail after 3 days of not doing so. Since Robby's birthday had passed, I was expecting to have at most 150 messages from the list. Dreading reading the enormous amounts of mail, I checked my inbox....absolutly SHOCKED to find I had 344 new e-mails. Three hundred and fourty four. I scanned every one of them...and saved two. There were two e-mails that I cared about...about 10 that were questions that I could not answer. The rest was stuff that would've been better left unsaid. This might sound like an un-necesary e-mail, also. But if it'll convince 10, yes, 10, people to reply PRIVATELY to each other, this e-mail is worth it. I may sound like an anal 40 year old, but I'm a busy 15 year old girl. I have band practice 4 days a week, football games one day a week, music lessons once a week, two choirs to practice music for, homework for my 5 core classes, some of which I am behind in depsite the fact that I don't waste any time online or watching TV unless I HAVE spare time. I'm not the only one on this that doesn't have TIME to read, or even DELETE 344 messages in 3 days. I just don't. The reason so many pieces of mail are getting sent to the entire list is because those of you who DO have a lot of time are simply too lazy, or too disrespectful to others, to check the "To" box, erase the mailing list address, and type in, or copy and paste the e-mail address of the person who SENT the e-mail to them. I understand that if you really lost someone's e-mail address, and you can't e-mail them privatly...sending it to the list. But if you have easy access to it, there's no excuse. It'll take maybe 30 more seconds to do this if you're slow. Don't tell me you don't have that kind of time...because the people doing this have a hell of a lot more time than me..and even I have time for this. About the "old" people calling the "young" people teenyboppers and vice versa...I honestly don't care, and neither should anyone. You should all get to know each other before judging, I agree, but I'm not going to change your habits that have grown over a period of years. If this teenybopper thing is your biggest problem, I envy you. I'm done now. Now PLEEEASE, to save those other people, RESPOND privately! I get out so infrequently I can't even imagine wanting to tow them with me...that's what husband's and sitter's are for...I guess if you just want to sit on the lawn or hang back with the upper deck crowd and listen to the music it might be ok (although I don't know how you keep a five year old amused for such a long period of time) but, really, I've never been to a goo show that vacated prior to eleven pm...shouldn't a five year old be tucked in with his blankie and stuffed animal lovey at that point in time? I'm not sayin I've never kept mine up late...sister's wedding, travelling to grandpa's house...but doing that for goo? Let them sleep and have fun with a sitter or relative/friend. You go have a goo- riffic time without 'em. Regarding goo concert language and stories...i think a five year old would be pretty oblivious to JR's "Walk of Shame" dissertation...I've always been more concerned with the naive ears and willing minds of the female yungin's on this list and Johnny's comments...REMEMBER girls {PLEASE}... It's a question. Since some people seem to be confused about what is considered a "necessary" e-mail...if you've read Bryan's rules to the list, you'd know that one is not supposed to e-mail the list UNLESS it is Goo related. He requests that people don't e-mail things like, "The Goos are on the radio right now in PA!" because it takes up space, but many people do not follow these rules. He moderated the list for a while, and warned, even kicked off some people, who did not follow the rules, but was flamed badly for it. I feel he had a right to do what he did. He puts in a lot of work and effort to keep everyone happy. If you don't want the list to be moderated again, just follow the simple rules. For example, if you want to post your age and an introduction, fine. But only do it if you have something Goo related to say. For example, ask a question that you've been wondering about. If you can't think of anything to ask or say that people will care about, simply DON'T e-mail the list. It's not that hard. Many other e-mail lists were created for people who like to talk about things other than the band. If you simply cannot control yourself from doing this, I suggest joining one of those lists. You get all of the same information, plus a bunch of e-mails like we've been getting the past few days. I don't know how to join any of the other lists because I am not on them, but I'm sure someone else could tell one if one is interested. The only difference is that everyone on those lists LIKE reading those e-mails. Many of the people on here would rather not. ~This is the second part. Message-ID: <3ee5cc2a.252966b5@aol.com> Hey everyone i got a ton of emails asking me to type this up so i decided to send it to the whole list so here it is!!! GOO GOOS WEREN"T ALWAYS DOLLS by: Wayne Bledsoe Goo goo dolls bassist robby takac says he imagines the group's new fans are in for a bit of a shock when they dig out the first goo goo dolls album, recorded more than 10 years ago. "I'm trying to picture some little girl whose favorite bands are like goo goo dolls and savage garden or 'n eync going 'aw, that johnny is so cute. I'm going to buy all his early records,' and putting it on and then screaming and running to her parents." While you couldn't tell it from 1998's sensitive ballad "Iris", the goo goo dolls began their careers cranking out garage-band thrash. Takac says he's happy the Dolls began with rougher sounds. "If our first records were to have sounded like this, i think we'd be a cheesy schlocky mess now," says takac from his atlanta hotel room. "I think the fact taht we grew out of this real garage-y-we're-still-learning-how-to-play-our-guitars, bear-with-us sort of a thing makes what we do now a little bit more real." Formed in 1986 in Buffalo, NY, the group (takac, vocal-ist-guitarist John Rzeznik and drummer george tutuska) signed with metal blade records the following year. Metal Blade was known for thrash and death metal, and takac admits the band was an awkward fit ont he roster. "Nobody really knew where to put us then," says Takac. "We had long hair and played really loud, fast music, but--I don't mean this in a homosexual way, but it was a little gay for a lot of people. Just happy and vaguely optimistic or deceivingly optimistic." As the group's sound mellowed, the goo goo dolls seemed even more out of place on the label. In 1990, metal blade became a subsidiary of Warner bros., which helped expand the audience for the quickly maturing and changing dolls. "Superstar Carwash," released in 1993, earned the group critical kudos, but it was 1995's "A Boy Named Goo" that put the group in the public eye with the hit single "Name." Ironically, though, while the album was going platinum, the group was going broke and nearly split up. "We sold and awful lot of records on 'ABNG' and left with nothing," says takac. The band went through an acrimonious parting w/ metal blade, moving to warner bros. proper. At nearly the same time, takac and rzeznik had an acrimonious parting w/ drummer tutuska, who was replaced w/ mike malinin. It was the movie "city of angels" that turned out to be the group's salvation. Warners tapped the band to add as ong to the movies soundtrack. The quickly written and recorded "Iris", with its aching chorus of "I just want you to know who I am," was the result. "It was weird," says takac. "We saw the rosterfor the record---it was like (peter) gabriel and U2 and alanis (moissette), Paula cole...We thought, yeah, it'll be nice to have a song on a record w/ a lot of big singles on it." It was "Iris", though that became the breakout, climbimng to the top of the Billboard top 40, Modern Rock, Adult Contemporary and Album Rock charts. It was nominated for three Grammys, and, according to AIRPLAY MONITOR, "Iris" was the most played song of 1998. Takac says the group was recording its album "dizzy up the girl" when they realized the musical monster they had created. "I remember we were watching the Stanely Cup playoffs at the studio and, like, in the same span of 2 hours we say "iris" on VH-1 and we saw it on MTV, and then we saw it for the windup on the hightlights of the stanely cup. "And it was like 'OK this looks like it is going to be big.' Then everything started coming in. We couldn't get on the road fast enough." The group has since had a No. 1 with the song "Slide", and the groups new single, "Black Balloon" is currently climbing the charts. Takac says the hardest thing the band has to deal with at the moment is waiting for their singles to drop off the charts in order to release new ones. "But theres worse things that can happen in your life than to have too many good songs." Wayne Blesoe is a music writer at THE NEWS-SENTINEL in Knoxville, Tenn. There ya go everyone, this isn't really an one on one interview w/ robby but i considered it an interview, since hes the only one who talks about the goos. but i hope ya'll enjoy it i did!! It seems to me that it makes it a lot more diffacult to send pointless e-mail to a couple hundred people by mistake when you have to type in the addy special. (Also, does this subject line change have to do with the renewal, and if it does are we still collecting $$$ for bryan, and if so then where do I send my share to?)anyway, this is approaching novel length, and if you would like to flame me for it that is just fine, and you can do so by sending e-mail to magwi11@hotmail.com, and if you put the word flame in the subject line I will know to delete it, so that would be nice... other than that, I did miss the list during the neverending week of stress, and I hope that we can get this volume thing under control. Later all, Maggie *TheNormal* TTB Yes, I want to get married and run away. And I by the way, am a member of this so-called teeny-bopper group, and all I have to say about this is who gives a flying f*ck about how old the people on the list are, we're all here for the same reason, let's remember that. ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com ------------------------------ End of goo Digest ***********************************
