My theory and i think people will agree is about John's family life as a child....... "your voice is small and faded, and you hide in here unknown..and your mother loves your father ..cause she's got nowwhere to go".... "and she wonders where these dreams go ...cause the world got in her way...whats the point in trying?...nothings changing anyway.." John almost speaks in the third person, and what he thinks his mother would have thought as he was growing up. I am a Goo fan who is extremely proud to admit that I know Robby. I met him several years ago when I was 16. I used to hang out with him when he was in a metal band called Lethal Weapon. We all practiced at the same warehouse in Kenmore,NY at the time. I knew Robby for 3 yrs. before I got married and moved to NC. It was right about that time when Robby started playing w/Johnny and formed the Goos. Robby is an extremely down to earth person. He is absolutely WILD with an incredible sense of humor. I wish him nothing but the best because he has worked so hard to get where he is. Thanks to all of you who support him and the Goos!!!! MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset="us-ascii" Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit X-Mailer: Unknown (No Version) To: undisclosed-recipients:; Goo Goo Dolls Reach Dizzying Heights With 'Dizzy Up The Girl' One Million Radio Spins and Counting BURBANK, Calif., Nov. 16 /PRNewswire/ -- The Goo Goo Dolls, one of the most impressive musical success stories of the decade, has achieved one of the rarest feats of any musical era; logging one million radio plays from a single album. Warner Bros. Records will mark this historic achievement with a special ceremony tonight at the Museum of Television & Radio in Los Angeles when the group will be presented with a special commemorative plaque. The occasion will also mark the triple platinum certification of the group's smash Warner Bros., Records release, "Dizzy Up The Girl," signifying sales in excess of three million units. Since its release in September of 1998, "Dizzy Up The Girl," the group's third album on Warner Bros. Records, has racked up four smash singles -- "Iris," "Slide," "Black Balloon" and "Dizzy." According to Broadcast Data Systems, a nationwide service that tallies radio play in major markets, the songs have together accumulated over a million plays, since "Iris" was initially heard on the Warner Bros. Records soundtrack album to the film "City of Angels." One million plays for songs from a single album is a remarkable achievement from any number of perspectives. For example, the single "Iris" alone accounts for over 527,124 radio plays to date. Compare that to the spins of such smash hits as Celine Dion's "My Heart Will Go On" (298,000), Ricky Martin's "La Vida Loca" (239,000) or TLC's "No Scrubs" (265,939) and the scope of the Goo Goo Doll's accomplishment becomes clear. Put another way, and again using "Iris" as an example, with a running time of 3:37 and spins to date of 527,124, the total accumulated time the song has been on the airwaves as of this writing is over 3 1/2 years. For "Slide," at a running time of 3:33 and 440,245 spins, total time on the air comes to nearly three years. "Black Balloon" at 4:09 and 129,353 spins equals a total air time of a little over one year. "Dizzy" with 34,932 spins at 2:41 each makes for a total air time of nearly 13 weeks. Add the total air time of all four songs and the music of "Dizzy Up The Girl" has been playing on radio for well over seven straight years in the United States alone. That, by any definition, is a hit... For further information, please contact: Mary Melia, 516-536-7572 SOURCE Warner Bros. Records CO: Warner Bros. In regards to MTV New Year's Events ... I've been to a few of them and they were taped before New Year's Eve. The ones I went to were taped at a local club and you had to wear "party attire" so that it would look like it was actually New Year's Eve. They then mix the taped footage with actual live footage for the broadcast on New Year's Eve. As far as getting in ... you usually have to depend on giveaways, know someone or get press passes. If I remember correctly, the performing acts fan clubs sometimes had limited access. I haven't been to one in a couple of years but I'm assuming they probably haven't changed all that much. Subject: Re: [GOO] new years eve!!! Message-ID: <19991117011434.23468.qmail@hotmail.com> In response to the goos not even wanting to be there - I can totally see that. Just think how you'd feel being on tour for like over a year, only wanting to go home and be with your families, and you've got to fly around the country with people you don't know (which is still cool because you get to travel to lots of places you most likely will have never been to), most likely screaming and being all crazy with you because they've never met you before (or maybe have) and are totally excited about being with them for new years 2000? It's a cool idea and everything, on MTV's or whomever thought of it's part, but I'm not sure, after being on tour and being away from their friends and families for that long, that the goos would be super enthusiastic about it. Think of how you'd feel if John or Robby weren't their usual spunky selves? ( Is this even possible? I didn't forget Mike - he's always nice even though he doesn't talk) You'd be totally disenchanted with the whole experience. Who knows - maybe they'll be great and tell jokes and stuff for whomever wins on the plane - I could be totally wrong (they may be in high spirits because they get to go home soon!). I'm just dying to find out what happens with them and 98 degrees together in the same plane! If someone from this list wins - you've GOT to provide me with details! Not wanting to be pessimistic - just being realistic. Plus, it's only my two cents! Doesn't amount to much of anything. -Frosty! ~~~"You grew up way too fast, now there's nothing to believe, and re-runs all become our history..." - John Rzeznik ~~~ ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 16 Nov 1999 18:28:48 -0800 To: "Christina Geisel" , , From: "Alyssa Moser" Subject: Re: [GOO] new years eve!!! Is it going to be posted at any time during TRL? Is anyone slightly upset by this time? And, on that subject, does anyone know if, say, you are unable to get to a TV/phone to see this, if you could have someone who is home call in and try to win for you? If you win, is this allowed, or will they be specifically taking whomever it is calling on the phone? Just thought that I'd ask. Any Bflo people on the list may know that they would play St. Joe's dances. An all-boys catholic school that would hire pretty cool local bands to play at their dances. I also remember seeing Sinead O'Connor at Buff State (her first U.S show ever) and and the band was standing outside the show and was telling everyone to buy their record. Now my sister tries to tell me that it was the Splat Cats and not the Goo Goo Dolls so if anyone recalls this event let me know. I really got into Hold Me Up in 1991 when the record store I was working in at the time had it in our play list. Lance's Prince cover is a classic. Well that's my intro! You're probably referring to a Goo mention in a special issue of Entertainment Weekly now hitting newsstands. The cover story is the Greatest 100 Entertainers of the Century or something equally grandiose, and inside is a special advertising section that includes what I'm pretty sure are the results of an online poll: who are the top entertainers of the future, something inane like that. One of the categories includes bands, and that's where the Goos fall, I think, at #9. No picture, no article, nothing but the band name in the Top 10 list. My copy's up on eBay, top bid right now is $45. That was a joke. If a bunch of you are going on the same day, you could make some flyers, and tell a few people from each row that after a certain song is played, everyone should stand up to sing happy birthday, and have people pass it on. Maybe the song should be Acoustic #3, as that seems to be a favorite, and also because John is basically alone on stage. the idea isn't too well thought out, but if anyone thinks it could be pulled off, see if you can figure it out! and have fun at the concert, you lucky few!!! Message-ID: <01c201bf30b9$ecbdadc0$94c91c0c@buffnet.buffnet.net> The interview happened already, but they did not air it on the radio yet. Rich Wall, the director from 103.3 was in LA with the Goos for the ceremony, and did an interview with them. But when I talked to Michelle, she said that she talked to him and he was going to call back. He hasn't yet as of this letter. Basically that means that they probably will be doing it in the morning or sometime tomorrow. I have a pretty decent pull with her and will see what I could do and if she plays it, I will post a time. Plus to help even more, log on to www.wedg.com and find her email and tell her how her show kicks ass and that you were listening to her all night waiting for the interview. She's real cool. I'm guessing Rich Wall didn't call back because he was at the ceremony and was pressed for time. We'll see what happens. Please don't email me regarding this because that's all I know for now and will get the info out as soon as I find out. jOegOo joejr@pce.net GooGooDollsOnline www.pce.net/joejr -----Original Message----- From: Dizzy Girl To: goo@mailinglists.org Date: Wednesday, November 17, 1999 12:03 AM Subject: [GOO] THe Edge Interview: Did it happen? >Hey... did the Buffalo radio interview happen yet? I know this is late but I wanted to give my review for the El Paso concert on 11-14 it was totally awesome. Me ans my friend got there around 2 just to see if we could meet them I didn't even think we were gonna get to go the concert but we did both. First we met mike he was so nice. He gave me a big hug and signed all the stuff I had and informed me that my B.B. single was rare, which I did not know. Then we met Nathan he was riding a bike I was the first one to know who he was I called his name he stopped to talk and I ran over to give him a hug and he signed everything. But as soon as everyone realized he was with Goo they swarmed around him and I decided not to waste anymore of his time. Then I saw Dave go into the bus get his jacket and take off with some people in a van. Then we met John he is the sweetest person I have ever met, his smile is even more amazing in person. He came over to me first and I told him I loved him and his music, and gave him the necklace I bought him and a hug. He said That's cool thanks I thought he was just being nice but I3umper informed me that he was wearing a necklace on stage and he wasn't wearing one when I gave it to him he tried to put it on when I gave it to him but he couldn't get the clasp so he put it around the wrist. He signed all my stuff and then went to go give other autographs. He came back to return my marker and I asked for a kiss the sides of our lips touched (totally by accident but I wasn't complaining) he hugged me so tight I thought I was gonna faint. After waiting a while and giving up all hopes of convincing Robby to come and talk to us we went in. We got in right before Fono no words can describe them they were amazing. At first I didn't like them but they played a little more and I fell in love. I really enjoyed the short time we had to talk because they kicked a** and I know they are gonna be huge. I've sorta adopted them, as I like to call it, they are my little baby band and I'm gonna promote them as much as possible. Be sure to visit their site at http://www.Fono.net Then was Tonic, I wasn't really that big of a fan before but I loved all their songs especially the last one but I don't know the name. It was that one that goes If you could only see the way she loves me than maybe you would understand. The singer gave some really good advice. I don't remember the exact words but he said If you have a jerk in your life get rid of him because you don't need/deserve(?) that. Then was everyone's favorite band. It was absolutely amazing John sounded good Robby sounded good nathan mike and dave sounded good it was awesome. Someone had a sign that said Shake You're a** Like Ricky Martin. John was so funny he told the ricky martin but he explained it more he said after she said to make love like ricky he was just thinkin What a bit** then he told how ricky martin was probably giving a show and tellin the same joke about him and a dog. He said he'll probably regret telling the joke because ricky martin would beat his a**, then said here's a song about regrets then played Name. He also told the lottery joke. Some one threw a bra on stage and he said he loved when that happened and after he was done with it he'd donate it to a woman in a third world country who didn't have a bra, then he threw it to the side and told them to save it for later. The set list was as follows: 1. Dizzy 2. Long Way Down 3.Slide 4.Full Forever 5.Black Balloon 6.Naked 7.Name 8.Cause You're Gone. 9.Broadway 10.Another Second Time Around 11.Flat Top 12.Acoustic #3 13.Iris 14.Just The Way You Are 15.Burning Up 16.2 Days The crowd was great they sang along to a lot of the songs. I stood on my seat the whole time and sang along to everything I had such a blast. During Black Balloon I tried to sing along and blow bubbles at the same time. It was so amazing it was my first concert of any kind and I loved every minute I can't wait to see them again. That's all I can remember for now I'm still in shock. For those who care John was wearing a black tanktop (he had on a regular black shirt and hat when I met him) and his green pants and from what I could see airwalks. Mike was wearing a purple that I think said Fred's Chicken Shack but I can't remember I know it had chicken, he said he stole it from the bus driver, he was wearing forest green pants. Robby was in all black. Nathan and Dave were in all black but Nathan had a D.A.R.E. shirt. If any one has any questions about the concert and just wants to talk about it e-mail or IM me(GooGoo183) I thank everyone who read the whole thing and sorry if there are a lot of grammatical errors I didn't want to read over it. -Sonya Rzeznik ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 16 Nov 1999 22:40:34 EST To: goo@mailinglists.org From: Quickmoon@aol.com Subject: Edge Broadcast Message-ID: <0.7cd2c423.25637db2@aol.com> For anyone that heard it...could you just give me an e-buzz and tell me if it's been on yet or not....I have a few things to do...requiring sound and if I already missed whatever was airing...I'd love to know. Hope all is well. Anyways, I have had a few e-mails asking me if I was going to get a card and have people send me their names and put their names on the card like I did for Robby. I have decided to since some people wanna tell him Happy Birthday and are unable to send something. Last time for Robby's I posted it like 2 days before I was sending out the box and that was just a mess. So I'm doing it early this time so I don't have a load of e-mails the night before I send the box out. You have until the 29th (Monday) at midnight for e-mails and sending your name in for the card. You can have a very small message for the card since there is a limited amount of space, if you want a larger message just send an e-mail to be printed out and put in the box. My wonderful great friend Nikki is going to be helping me with this card thing. If you would like your name to be on the card from people on the list please e-mail Nikki at googoobabe@itlnet.net also when you e-mail her to tell her you want your name on the card put your name in the subject, if you have a small message too then just put your name and like message in the subject. She will then collect all the names and send them to me on the 29th, she is doing this so I don't have to sift through all the name messages and e-mails for John's box. If you have an e-mail just go ahead and send it to me. I'm going to get the card tomorrow probably and will let yah know what it looks like. Thanks all and remember if you want your name on the card send it to Nikki not to me. I have no idea if this is a repeat of the last show they did, or if it is new. And I'm sorry if this was already posted, but I didn't think I remembered seeing it. What if one person was in charge of the search for any and all Goo appearances..live, tv, radio, magazine..etc. (and not the type of sane fan search just anyone could do!) The person would need to have the knowledge and the commitment to hunt out all the who, what, when, where and how. This way the list could benefit and everyone be guaranteed to catch all the special, not so published stuff.
