Now, the idea goes a little something like that: I have a friend who've recently openned an FTP which has GGD bootlegs, husker-du cds, replacements cd (wow, those two bands rocks!) and all in mp3 format. Now, it's based on a basit element: you upload mp3 of live shows or b-sides or even part of live shows, radio interviews etc. and in return you'll get to download a lot of other great shows that you have no chance in getting 'em. well, the FTP speed is very high (total of 256 Kbytes) so something like 30-40 users can be on the FTP and still enjoy high speed!. don't you think it's great???? Here's the page of my friend's site- it has all the info. about the FTP he has- i promise you you'll like it!!!! :) http://www.geekjuice.com/goo/ so get to this page- you'll like it! :) ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 9 Nov 1999 13:10:56 EST To: goo@mailinglists.org From: Star3857@aol.com Subject: Re: [GOO] SOMEBODY HELP ME!!!!!!!!!! It briefly explores some business and legal issues. Also, it explains the styles of and gives brief histories of both the Goos and Tonic. --Alice :) ^ÓMP3.com tour moved to Township; Goo Goo Dolls still on It isn^Òt often that a legalistic disclaimer accompanies a press release for a rock concert, but the MP3.com Music And Technology Tour is not just a concert, according to the sponsors. If you^Òre Internet-deficient in your knowledge of computer technology, you^Òd be forgiven for not knowing about MP3. Simply put, it is a technology that allows for the digital transfer of sound files on the Internet, a capability that has the potential to change the way the music business does business. MP3.com is a website that claims to ^Ócontain more than 160,000 songs from more than 27,000 artists.^Ô This is all free for now, until they can figure out some way of getting us to pay for it. The Internet is not a sure bet for anything, of course, and that disclaimer mentioned above includes references to ^ÓThe Company^Òs new and uncertain business model, uncertainty regarding acceptance of the Company^Òs products and services, ^Ó and so on. There was supposed to be an all-day MP3.com village outside the concert^Òs original venue, the Carolina Coliseum, but the event has been moved to the much smaller Township Auditorium, and the accompanying events around the show- a music and technology tent with various vendors participating and prizes available as well as local bands that have done well on the MP3.com site- are uncertain as of press time. Not that it is MP3.com^Òs fault, mind you- there was just a lack of advance sales for a general admission event. The big show will go on, however, and it promises to be a good one. Headliners The Goo Goo Dolls have come a long way in their decade-long career, from the heirs apparent to the Replacements^Ò ragged rock robes to their current status as MTV darlings and Top 40 staples. With their first albums in the late 1980^Òs, the Buffalo, NY trio were brash, belligerent, and a heck of a lot of fun. Their live shows were raucous affairs, and the albums were prized for both the nutty original tunes like ^ÓUp Yours^Ô to the punked-up covers of popular artists like Blue Oyster Cult, Prince, and The Rolling Stones. In 1995, the band achieved their million-selling commercial breakthrough with ^ÓName,^Ô an atypical acoustic pop song off of the Boy Named Goo (Warner Brothers) album. Decried by some as a blatant Replacements rip-off (but then, that^Òs an apt description of their whole career to that point), it was the hit Paul Westerberg should have had but never did. Since that initial chart success, the Goos have returned to the top with the ballad ^ÓIris,^Ô first featured in the City Of Angels soundtrack, and then on their most recent album, Dizzy Up The Girl (Warner Brothers). That CD has also spun off the hits ^ÓSlide^Ô and the new single, ^ÓBlack Balloon,^Ô both of which rely heavily on the upbeat acoustic formula of their first hit song. Tonic will be opening the show. An unavoidable presence on rock radio a couple years ago with the hit song, ^ÓIf You Could Only See, ^Ó the band^Òs postmodern take on Led Zeppelin^Òs pop-stomp style will be at the foreground again with the release of their new album this fall. Movie audiences got a taste of the record recently when the song ^ÓYou Wanted More^Ô was featured in the soundtrack to American Pie.^Ô --written by Ken Oliver --published in Columbia, SC^Òs ^ÓFree Times^Ô (www.free-times.com) (www.bestofcolumbia.com) November 3-9, 1999, page 27. ===== "You can't swim in the water without splashing someone, you know? Hello, my name is Basmati Kasaar. I am suffering from a rare and deadly diseases, poor scores on final exams, extreme virginity, fear of being kidnapped and executed by anal electrocution, and guilt for not forwarding out 50 billion fucking chain letters sent to me by people who actually believe that if you send them on, then that poor 6 year old girl in Arkansas with a breast on her forehead will be able to raise enough money to have it removed before her redneck parents sell her off to the travelling freak show. Do you honestly believe that Bill Gates is going to give you and everyone you send "his" email to $1000? How stupid are you? Ooooh, lookyhere! If I scroll down this page and make a wish, I'll get laid by every Playboy model in the magazine! What a bunch of bullshit. So basically, this message is a big FUCK YOU to all the people out there who have nothing better to do than to send me stupid chain mail forwards. Maybe the evil chain letter leprechauns will come into my apartment and sodomize me in my sleep for not continuing the chain which was started by Jesus in 5 A.D. and was brought to this country by midget pilgrims on the Mayflower and if it makes it to the year 2000, it'll be in the Guinness Book of World Records for longest continuous streak of blatant stupidity. Fuck them. If you're going to forward something, at least send me something mildly amusing. I've seen all the "send this to 50 of your closest friends, and an amazing wretched excuse for a human being will somehow receive a nickel from some omniscient being" forwards about 90 times. I don't fucking care. Show a little intelligence and think about what you're actually contributing to by sending out forwards. Chances are it's your own unpopularity. THE FOUR BASIC TYPES OF CHAIN LETTERS: ---------------- Chain Letter Type 1:----------------- * * * * * * * *scroll down * * * * * * * Make a wish!!! * * * * * * * No, really, go on and make one!!! * * * * * * *Oh please, they'll never go out with you!!! * * * * * Wish something else!!! * * * * * * * Is your finger getting tired yet? * * * * * * * * STOP!!!! Wasn't that fun? :) Hope you made a great wish :) Now, to make you feel guilty, here's what I'll do. First of all, if you don't send this to 5096 people in the next 5 seconds, you will be raped by a mad goat and thrown off a high building into a pile of manure. It's true! Because, THIS letter isn't like all of those fake ones, THIS one is TRUE!! Really!!! Here's how it goes: Send this to 1 person: One person will be pissed off at you for sending them a stupid chain letter. Send this to 2-5 people: 2-5 people will be pissed off at you for sending them a stupid chain letter. Send this to 5-10 people: 5-10 people will be pissed off at you for sending them a stupid chain letter, and may form a plot on your life. Send this to 10-20 people: 10-20 people will be pissed off at you for sending them a stupid chain letter and will firebomb your house. Thanks!!!! Good Luck!!! --------------------Chain Letter Type 2---------------- Hello, and thank you for reading this letter. You see, there is a starving little boy in Baklaliviatatlaglooshen who has no arms, no legs, no parents, and no goats. This little boy's life could be saved, because for every time you pass this on, a dollar will be donated to the Little, Starving, Legless, Armless, Goatless, Boy from Baklaliviatatlaglooshen Fund. Oh, and remember, we have absolutely no way of counting the emails sent and this is all a complete load of bullshit. So go on, reach out. Send this to 5 people in the next 47 seconds. Oh, and a reminder - if you accidentally send this to 4 or 6 people, you will die instantly. Thanks again!! ----------------Chain Letter Type 3-------------------- Hi there!! This chain letter has been in existence since 1897. This is absolutely incredible because there was no email then and probably not as many sad pricks with nothing better to do. So this is how it works: Pass this on to 15,067 people in the next 7 minutes or something horrible will happen to you like: *Bizarre Horror Story #1 Miranda Pinsley was walking home from school on Saturday. She had recently recieved this letter and ignored it. She then tripped in a crack in the sidewalk, fell into the sewer, was gushed down a drainpipe in a flood of poopie, and went flying out over a waterfall. Not only did she smell nasty, she died. This Could Happen To You!!! *Bizarre Horror Story #2 Dexter Bip, a 13 year old boy, got a chain letter in his mail and ignored it. Later that day, he was hit by a car and so was his boyfriend (hey, some people swing that way) They both died and went to hell and were cursed to eat adorable kittens every day for eternity. This Could Happen To You Too!!! Remember, you could end up just like Pinsley and Bip. Just send this letter to all of your loser friends, and everything will be okay. --------------------Chain Letter Type 4:--------------- As if you care, here is a poem that I wrote. Send it to every one of your friends. Friends A friend is someone who is always at your side, A friend is someone who likes you even though you stink of shit, and your breath smells like you've been eating catfood, A friend is someone who likes you even though you're as ugly as a hat full of assholes, A friend is someone who cleans up for you after you've soiled yourself, A friend is someone who stays with you all night while you cry about your sad, sad life, A friend is someone who pretends they like you when they really think you should be raped by mad chimpanzees, then thrown to vicious dogs, A friend is someone who scrubs your toilet, vacuums and then gets the check and leaves and doesn't speak much English...* no, sorry that's the cleaning lady, A friend is not someone who sends you chain letters because he wants his wish of being rich to come true. Now pass this on! If you don't, you'll never have sex ever again. ------------------------------------------------------ The point being? If you get some chain letter that's threatening to leave you shagless or luckless for the rest of your life, delete it. If it's funny, send it on. Don't piss people off by making them feel guilty about a leper in Botswana with no teeth, who's been tied to a dead elephant for 27 years, whose only saviour is the 5 cents per letter he'll receive if you forward this mail, otherwise you'll end up like Miranda. Right? Now forward this to everyone you know otherwise you'll have to look at me naked! Remember: "There are no stupid questions, just stupid people." -Mr. Garrison. ===== melissa_tuttle@yahoo.com __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? A Little bit of Goo news from a while back. I was packing up for Florida and found a September issue of Buffalo Beat = (Sept 23 - 29). It had an article on the www.johnrzeznik.com website. It = mentioned how the site was pulled, and the reason why. It basically mentions how Rich Kegler, owner of P22 Type Foundry, in the = mid-eighties was in a band called Beat Generation with George (former = Goo drummer). Kegler went to England to study, when he came back, he = found Robby in the band. Soon, John after the breakup of his band, the = Beaumonts was in it and Kegler was "squeezed" out of the band. The band = was called the Sex Maggots. (I typed partially what was in the article) In my opinion, Kegler seems to be still pissed off over this. The = article also mentioned about how Kegler did artwork for Hold Me Up and = Superstar Car Wash. It also mentioned how he had an idea for a Goo Goo = Dolls tribute album and board game. An elaborate box set, the package = included a hilarious board game, T-sihirt, and a tribute cassette and = other trinkets. It mentioned how John wasn't pleased with the idea. It also mentioned that Kegler was doing artwork with George for A Boy = Named Goo. They mentioned that it was going to be titled, "You ain't the = boss of me" and when George was booted from the band, the artwork was = scrapped and Kegler didn't get any money. It mentioned how Kegler was = selling the board games on the internet and that 20 were made. Then John = stepped in to stop him. So Kegler purchased www.johnrzeznik.com to put some pics up and some = gossip, witht he hopes of sitting on the site and John going solo. This = was Kegler could sell the site and pocket the cash when John was in the = need of a website. Basically, from what I read, it sounds like Kegler is still pissed off = and wants to get some form of revenge. The site has been pulled and from = the sound of it, looks like it won't be up any time soon. He owns P22, which is the company that supports George's band Bobo. = www.p22.com . Kind of a wierd twist to what has been going on with = internet web sites. The reason why I typed this out was because a couple = of people have been asking about that site and I remembered that I had = the article. One of these days, when my slow fingers get to it, I'll = type out the whole article, but it's basically the same. Any comments on this, please don't send them to me, I'm trying to = conserve on the emails until I get back from Sarasota, FLorida :)=20 Just email me if you are going to the Buffalo shows and aren't on my = list or if you want to send me gifts or money just for the heck of it = :) That's all from me for now... jOegOo joejr@pce.net GooGooDollsOnline www.pce.net/joejr ------=_NextPart_000_005A_01BF2B0A.93512820-- ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 9 Nov 1999 23:41:16 EST To: Goo@mailinglists.org From: Felix43229@aol.com Subject: Fwd: Returned mail: Host unknown (Name server: maillings.org: host not found) Message-ID: <0.bada5c55.255a516c@aol.com> --part1_0.bada5c55.255a516c_boundary Content-Type: text/plain; charset="us-ascii" Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit In a message dated 11/7/99 7:43:23 AM Pacific Standard Time, MAILER-DAEMON@aol.com writes: << never saw the part of the awards where John takes off his shirt and shows his tatoos to Gwenth, but someone on the list had stills they posted a few weeks back. News site. I thought I would share it with everyone because in the report it says that exchange users are vulnerable to this virus. We have confirmed this virus from several news and anti-virus sites. It looks to be a real threat and not a hoax. Wednesday November 10 3:31 AM ET New Computer Virus 'Bubbleboy' Found By Duncan Martell PALO ALTO, Calif. (Reuters) - Researchers have discovered what they believe to be the first e-mail-borne computer infection that doesn't require a user to open an e-mail or e-mail attachment for it to wreak havoc. Dubbed ``Bubbleboy'' after an episode of TV sitcom ''Seinfeld,'' the virus is known as a worm because it is self-propagating. Researchers at antivirus software firm Network Associates Inc (Nasdaq:NETA - news). received the computer infection anonymously Monday night at about 10 p.m. local time. ``Historically, as long as you don't open e-mail attachments you're safe from virus infection, but this changes all that,'' said Sal Viveros, a marketing manager at Network Associates. ''We've finally come to the point where if you're using e-mail, specifically (Microsoft Corp (Nasdaq:MSFT - news).'s) Outlook, you need to have some sort of virus protection or you shouldn't read e-mail.'' Although the Bubbleboy virus that researchers received last night didn't cause harm such as deleting files or stealing passwords, it won't be long before variants crop up that are indeed destructive, Viveros said. ``In this case, it's just sending itself all over the place but it could fairly easily delete files or steal passwords,'' Viveros said. Bubbleboy appears as an e-mail with ``Bubbleboy is Back!'' in the subject line and includes pictures and sounds from the Seinfeld episode that gave it its name. Bubbleboy follows other e-mail-borne viruses that have already swept the Internet such as the ``ExploreZip worm,'' which can erase files from a user's computer, and the Melissa virus, which gained notoriety for its ability to spread quickly but not because it destroyed any data. Network Associates gave Bubbleboy a ``low risk'' classification for now because customers haven't yet notified it that the virus has appeared on their computers. What makes this worm particularly nefarious is that if a user is running Outlook Express and has the preview pane enabled, the worm can infect the computer without the user even opening the e-mail. The preview pane in Outlook Express lets users scan e-mails to see their contents without having to open them first. Other e-mail programs such as Exchange and Lotus Notes are also vulnerable, Viveros said. ``Now just by reading an e-mail you can be infected, and if you're using Outlook Express you don't even need to read it,'' Viveros said. The worm will then send itself to everyone listed in that e-mail program's address book. Bubbleboy refers to a Seinfeld episode in which a boy who lives in a bubble because of a faulty immune system is a big fan of Jerry Seinfeld, who plays himself as a stand-up comic on the popular series. Jerry and George Castanza, a friend of Jerry's, visit the boy and play Trivial Pursuit. But the answer on one of the cards is misspelled, and the boy in the bubble and George get into a fight. The fight ends with George accidentally popping the boy's bubble. ``But unfortunately, this virus is not very funny,'' Viveros said. __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Message-ID: <19991110141247.89504.qmail@hotmail.com> Let's just get one thing straight ppl...JOHN-DOES-NOT-DO-DRUGS...I have faith in it's obvious nature alone...ok? ok ;-) When you (any of you) post something like, "...if he does, then I hope he gets help", then your elluding to the fact that he does and/or making others think he does...so don't even give it a second thought...whatever he did was in the past...that's from his own two lips! The thoughts you have about John's life beyond his music...keep it to yourself...or go to a chat and discuss it among ppl you trust....remember, there are feeble minds here, not to mention 500+ ppl...ppl who might take you word as gold, and that's how rumors get started. I am not being holier-than-thou, I have crossed the line at times too...but I've realized where to draw it. If Mr. Rzeznik wanted you to know about certain things about his life, he would post it on the internet for you all to see, along with a Q/A session...I consider us all lucky to know what we do allready...John's a very open person...but would it suffice me to say that the majority of us could write an autobiography, w/ the exception of a cpl of pages in his life??? Let him keep what little he has left sacred...for you would want the same for yourself I presume ;-) Trust me, your NOT doing John a favor by perpetuating this or any other issue regarding his personal life...that's one of the reason's the messageboard got shut down at thier previous site, cuss you get one lame as person who goes on there and puts "John does Cocaine" in the subject line, and next you have a million posts with the subject line "RE: John on Coca..." defending him, but regardless, ppl are gonna see that and think he really IS Coke head...and the next thing you know, in it's twisted, concocted nature, strangers at concerts are telling you they saw it on MTV. If you think it's even a remote possibility that the guys have come this far only to piss it all away, how can you have faith in them at the same time? I'm sorry, but I can't see John handing some 11 yr. old girl a guitar and going backstage to snort a cpl lines...leave that to the likes of Axl Rose (minus the guitar part) Part of being a fan is having faith in them, not waiting for them to fall through the glass ceiling. Besides, last I knew, John was reading spirituality books and meditating...kinda hard to lead THAT kind of dbl life I would have assume ;-) ~Introverted and Mouthy Spice~ (AKA wannabe freelance writer w/ her flamethrowing shield in tact =-Þ) ...and member of 'Gooless in Seattle' >From: Felix43229@aol.com >To: goo@mailinglists.org >Subject: Re: [GOO] yeah >Date: Wed, 10 Nov 1999 07:20:11 EST > >Truck stop speed (not pot)....and it is his life and we are just fans, but >lets hope he has some friends that would care enough to help him safe his >life....he has too much talent and too much heart too waste it away..the >world has seen enough tragedies from drug and alcohol use....let's hope it is >just a rumor. Yet Naughty by Nature is still at the Paramount's website for that date. And wouldn't this concert have been announced by now if it were on November 22? Because that's like 12 days away. I have a question that's been bothering me. I was watching an appearance that the GGD did on Leno the other day. I think it was the one where they played "Dizzy" but I'm not sure. Anyway, Jay Leno asked them what name they had before GGD and Johnny said he couldn't say it on the air. Jay said he could, but Johnny insisted he couldn't and whispered it to Jay. Jay laughed and said that no, they couldn't say that on the air. Then he said that he thought they had been called Sex Maggots. Johnny laughed and said something but I don't remember what. Anyway, it gave me the impression they had been called something else but I never remember hearing that. Does anyone know if this is true? ~Iris ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 10 Nov 1999 14:15:53 EST To: goo@mailinglists.org From: "Frosty !" Subject: drugs and 30's Message-ID: <19991110191556.87731.qmail@hotmail.com> Hey kiddies: speed, pot, cocaine, acid, they're all the same to me (I don't do drugs so I don't know the difference) - the are all drugs period. It sucks that people do them because they kill - in every sense of the word. Period. To whoever wrote about people in their 30's being old (I don't know if you were kidding about it or not - if you were - sorry) - shame on you!!! The goos are all in their 30's - does that make them old?? Nope. You'll still to see when you get older that the mind is still there and VERY willing - it's just that the body doesn't or can't keep up most of the time. Age doesn't matter - you are only as old as you feel - and it's totally that is what's inside that counts (as well as what's encased in that cranium of yours!). Most of the time, you're thinking doesn't change - you still want to go out and have fun, it's just that the way you used to have fun may be different from others. The years may (and will) pass, but it only turns out that you're a young kid trapped in an old body (believe me, from talking to my older family members - I've really found this to be true). The question is, are you going to sit around and complain and do those "I remember when..." stories, or do something about it and live your life to the fullest extent that you can? I think that it's great that those moms and older gals are out there at the concerts getting crushed along with the rest of us and spilling their guts out to us over email. God bless 'em for that! You guys rock! It's cool period that multiple generations can enjoy GGDs shows. That really says something about their music! That's just my two cents - sorry if I ticked anyone off - that comment just really bugged me. -Frosty! ~~~"You grew up way too fast, now there's nothing to believe, and re-runs all become our history..." - John Rzeznik ~~~ ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 10 Nov 1999 12:03:38 -0800 To: "goo@mailinglists.org" From: Robert Castleton Subject: East Coast Trip Message-ID: <3829CF9A.BE386524@earthlink.net> Hi there fellow GGD fans! I have a favor to ask......though it seems a long way off to us, I am planning my vacation for next summer. I am from New Jersey originally and now live in Washington State. During next summer my two kids and I are going home for a very long visit. We usually go back every couple of years for about six weeks without my husband and this year we are also planning to go to Niagara Falls since we have done some work in geography about it and it's surrounding area. I am wondering if there are any folks out there who live on the East Coast who can tell me of other interesting things to see and do and if there are any festivals to take my kids to during the June, July and August of 2000. We have no specific dates as of yet and are just curious about the different things we could possibly do.....I do know quite a bit of things to do in NJ but if anyone can pass on some info I'd really appreciate it. Thanks, Joann ------------------------------ End of goo Digest ***********************************
