The world takes all kinds and living takes accepting all kinds and their ideas. I personally think that a private Goo concert would be incredible, but no one has asked (and that is the operative word here ASKED, no one is proposing the Goo's be drafted into slave labor) the Goo's themselves how they feel. If someone were to ask them how they felt about it and they said yes, those of you who are busy flaming away, would you all stay at home because you thought the concert was an unjust cause ? Would you ??? I did not read the original post but I'm quite sure the person's intentions were honorable. I mean come on we are all fans here, I think all of us think a private concert would be cool. Yes they have private lives and have been on tour but dont forget that they have been blown up huge as faras popoularity goes. I dont know them personally and will not speak for them but from everything I DO know about the band, they would appreciate this concert more than any other because their most deicated fans planned it. We are NOT using the charity thing as a way to get concert out of the boys. I am a college student who has spent a lot of my life dedicating my services to charity causes and Im sure I speak for all of us fans when I say that this is not a selfish idea as you make it out to be. If we try to get them to do a concert right at the end of this tour it will be more difficult b/c they will want time to themselves. TOTAL CHAOS!!! i second having Missy (mptak@umich.edu) in charge....president if u want to call it that. she should probably be in charge of the locations of everyone (picking a reasonable place for the concert), updating us on any progress, and communicating w/ the other officers. other positions i guess should include (as someone brought up earlier) a treasurer...who can decide on a ticket price, fund raising ideas, and also would need some connection to the band (or to the person listed next) to be able to work out pricing and expenses for the band members and file for the non-profit status, etc. (someone good in economics!) we also need a person who is able to directly communicate with someone either in the band or the producer, or on the marketing team for the goo goo dolls, etc. they will be responsible for actually OKAYING the idea, setting a date, etc. another position is a person who can deal with and has experience with the technical aspects of this quest. for example, finding a venue, and contacting the charity, etc. any ideas, questions, or bringing up of possible flaws etc, should be emailed to the president, not to the list. i hope that Missy will put together a list of more specific offices, then post it, and people can email her if u think you want the responsibility and tell her why and how u could help. i hope this helps get things running smoother. i agree that we are all jumping on this idea way too fast, and i think this will definately help. these officers can keep the list updated on how the planning is going, but it will take a long time. so everyone be patient. and please, stop emailing too much to the whole list about this. PLEASE DON'T RESPOND TO THE LIST SAYING "GREAT IDEA, I TOTALLY AGREE!" OR "THIS IS WAY OUT OF OUR LEAGUE, STOP IT NOW!" or ANYTHING like this. let the president handle it for now. (now, i'm not saying to overwhelm HER w/ a million emails either, but just let's get this organized before we all start throwing a party). i really hope this helps. thanx for reading so much :) -diana ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 02 Nov 1999 20:07:31 -0500 To: goo@mailinglists.org From: ggd383 Subject: concert in nj!/get orgranized/title for story Message-ID: <381F8AD3.389AA5CF@home.com> hey dudes~ whoa, i leave for work, and come back and damn if i have another 100 e-mails! it's cool though, this whole concert idea is pretty neat. and it would totally kick ass if we actually could pull this off! and i think NJ is a cool place to have it! you could all come to my house for a barbecue! lol:) anygoo, okay, someone said designating jobs for this whole little concert thing, and i totally agree! i mean, yeah its cool to read about how the concerts gonna come together and all, but i'm busy with homework and making copies of tapes tonight, plus there's a huge storm outside, so chances are i'm not gonna get to check my mail alot. so please someone oraganize!!! okay, now i know this maybe the STUPIDEST question in the world, but i just read "the metamorphosis" in english class, and now we have to write a story just like that, where we metamorphosize (sp?) into something that kinda represents how you feel or how you are, and i chose a black balloon (kinda sad, but i really relate to that song!) anywho, i need a title for my story... its just about me changing into a black balloon, and how i feel and junk like that... any ideas? okay, later dudes! :) ~rachel s.n: ggd383 "if we had had fifteen more minutes..." ~robby, on the bands name ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 2 Nov 1999 20:33:17 -0500 To: "GooList" From: "Joe Haniszewski Jr" Subject: ALL LIST MEMBERS READ THIS!!!!! Maybe if this doesn't work, all of you could volunteer some time of your own to one. I really, really like the Goo Goo Dolls, but after reading all of your emails I am freaking out a little. People tease me for liking the Goo Goo Dolls so much and call me a groupy because I have been to four of their concerts and I am 31 years old. I live in NY, near the city, and if this thing actually ends up happening, i could help with finding hotels and stuff for people who don't live near here (that is, if it ends up being in the NY/NJ area). I think that whoever's running this thing (missy?) should pick a few people to find nice, inexpensive m/hotels in the area of the concert, so if it's in/near NY, i could help out with that. I'm sorry for adding to your already long e-mail list We're all tired of the endless e-mails, and of course I'm not helping, but I don't think some people are being unfair to others. We're all entitled to our own opinions and ideas, and nobody has to like them, but that's not a free opportunity to beat a person for their creativeness. I liked the concert idea when it was first introduced, but now I'm beginning to think it's not going to happen, there are just too many factors involved for it to work. It's an excellent idea, but if we really think about it, could we really pull it off to where everyone would be happy? There are just too many fans out there to cater to. I don't mind so much the 100+ emails a day, but what really gets me upset is the anger a lot of people show towards others. We're all devoted fans, and we should all get along and be nice towards others. Why can't we prove to the band that we're the most devoted and the best fan group there is. I'm sure that's what the Goo's want most of us, kind and devoted fans. Can we please work on this so we don't give this list a bad name? I feel that this list should elect a person to organize the e-mails as well as the facts and the questions. That's part of our problem, we're unorganized, which leads to miscommunication as well as arguments. The Goos probably make about at least (and this is the low side of it all) $10,000+ a concert. Now if the list wants me to I can find out how much it would cost to book the Goos for a private show BUT just realize it is gonna be a lot...and as much fun as it sounds I highly doubt many of you can afford it....not to be rude but most people on this list are under 18 and for the ones over I apologize. Anyways....if you guys email me privately or to this list thats fine but DO NOT get your hopes up for a concert it more then likely will be too much for anyone to afford....after all if you all cannot send Bryan (the list owner) a dollar or two...I highly doubt that you all can afford a concert Dawn Dawn ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 2 Nov 1999 22:09:08 EST To: goo@mailinglists.org From: RobbyTfan@aol.com Subject: Re: [GOO] Regarding Private Concert Message-ID: <0.83b25943.25510154@aol.com> Also be aware...I have planned several benefit concerts and even got some big names to play them for us free, but it is all in the timing and my magazine sponsored it and all our proceeds went to the missing children's organization. If that happens, it will be like an average concert!! there will be so many people there. So if the concert is to be as exclusive and VIP as possible, I suggest that someone take down the names of everyone on the list now, and restrict the invites to them alone, and of course you could still bring a friend or something, but not like a crowd of people. Anyway, this is just a suggestion.
