I just e-mailed him asking about the supposed Seattle show, so we'll see if he gets back to me...and hopefully we can put this 'rumor' asideonce and for all (Thx for keeping us up to date my Goo friend Vic and thx to Alex for doing a lil' digging as well...appreciate it ;-) Just got my Rockstar in the mail (sorry Goobers, I no longer have the info on how to get it in case your wondering) but I couldn't help but notice the boy-band-like pull-out poster of Lance...lol...too funny! (luv the unique choice of attire Mr. Diamond :-Þ I shall post you to my wall and drool...lol. Lance rocks! Also got the Buffalo Beat (the one that came out a week AFTER the Goos) w/ my letter in the 'Letters to the Editor' section...nice to have a piece of Buffalo memorabilia w/ my name on it ;-) What a honor! Ya'll should continue to e-mail them and see if they do the same...promote the Goos til' the cows come home is my motto! Last call for anyone who wants pics of the GGD display at the Hard Rock Hotel in Vegas...it is $3 for 2 pics...e-mail me if you want more info ;-) I still have the Elmo sticker book up for grabs...it will go to $2.50 for anyone who wants it and e-mails me first ;-) It would make a nice addition to any present you send John-boy for his B-day! What was the deal w/ the WB awards...I don't know about ya'll in diff time-zones got to see, but in my neck of the woods, immediately after they annoounced the Goos as the winners, they cut to one of Tom Green's idiodic 'skits' ...not very Goo recognition...for I could still barely hear Rick Dees accepting it on thier behalf...or however they did it...who accepted it for them anyways? And I was a lil' confused as to why they picked 'Iris' of all songs won...that was ages ago...wasn't Slide a more recent hit on the charts? Don't get me wrong, I'm glad Iris is finally getting the recognition it deserves, but that was 98' not 99'??? While all the other songs nominated in that catagory were more recent like Slide...and more 'popish' (eck...I hate that word) at that...meaning all the other songs were more up tempo weren't they? ...hmmmn. Still, I'm ecstatic that they won...my shrill of delight at work proved so I think...lol...bout' time! I finally took up the opportunity to speak my mind and say my peace on the issue of "GGDs...talented band, or rip-off artists" ...and here is what I said if ya'll are interested: >I am offended that Rollingstone would decide to even make this a >topic...how old and dead is this topic anyways??? Temple U was the best Goo concert I've been to thus far...Uhh, I've only been to 2 other Goo shows, but this was still sooo much fun... My friend & I (note: not *Me & my friend*) got there before 5PM, so when they opened the door-thingies, we got to stand in the 2nd row of people behind the gate... Moke = okay Justin Clayton (?) = okay Fono = pretty good Thrillcraft = awesome Tonic = awesome The Goo Goo Dolls = mind blowing *laFF*...Well, the Goos were great...John didn't tell any of his stories, but the music was still really good...John & Robby moved around the stage a lot, so that was cool...I finally heard *A Thousand Words*...During *Black Balloon,* I blew up like 7 black balloons & threw them almost on stage (a lot of them fell into the place between the stage & the gate, so the guards just threw them back into the audience)...John even kicked one...I also threw this stuffed heart thing...On it, it had *Johnny, if you took your shirt off for Gwyneth Paltrow, can you take it off for me?*...Okay, so maybe it was a little stoopid, but it got his attention...He read it & said something like...*Haha...That was on national television...& did you notice how she wasn't even impressed?*...I thought that was pretty funny...(Uhh, obviously he didn't do what the stuffed heart told him to)...I also had this poster that said *Johnny, you should have been GQ Man of the Year!!!*...I held it up & he read it & laughed at it...I also threw up PEZ & a PEZ dispenser for Robby...I don't know if he could tell what the PEZ dispenser was, since it was still in its wrapper...John & Robby both walked past it & looked at it & kind of smiled, tho... I didn't get to meet anyone from the list...(I was wearing my cat-in-the-hat hat!)...*laFF*...But that's okay...I don't remember your name (sorry), but I saw the blue boa that someone told me they were gonna throw onstage for John (too bad he didn't wear it)... As far as I could see, the place was pretty much filled when the Goos came on...I wasn't pushed or poked or anything too much...But my friend got cut in the lip when the girl in front of her accidentally hit her w/her bracelet...But she's okay now... Unfortunately, I didn't get to catch any guitar pics...Or any candy that Tonic threw...Or anything at all, for that matter...(Actually, I did catch some confetti when they dropped it down on us)...I did however, pull a poster off of the bulletin board thing across the street from the venue...It's really long, & it just says something about the MP3 Tour,..There's even a small picture of the Goos on it...I also got a bunch of these smaller papers about The Village, & a bunch of MP3.com stickers from the bulletin board (They came off when I was pulling off the poster)...*laFF* I didn't get to meet the Goos, but hey, there'll always be next time, right?...I did see their tour bus behind the venue, tho...hmm...Okay, now I hafta focus all my energy on winning that Fly2K thing...*laFF*... So, anyone who was there, e-mail me...Anyone who wants any extra gory details about the show, e-mail me...Anyone who thinks that this whole letter was absolutely pointless & wants to send me hate mail, e-mail me too... ~~~dizzyupthisgirl1003~~~ insideout1003@hotmail.com ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 30 Oct 1999 12:43:27 EDT To: goo@mailinglists.org From: Mudd407@aol.com Subject: [ggd] question! The article in Rolling Stones is from the European tour. So anything could have happened between then and now. The most recent info on his status was on a telephone interview were he talks about a stalker sending stuff to his home in Buffalo and that if his wife sees the girl she might kick her a**. (something to that effect) So its still a guessing game. And I think he wants to keep it that way! I am not trying to sound mean or anything but, I think that they might want to keep it that was as well so that they may attract young teenage fans. Do you get what I'm saying (because John is 'attractive' and all...)? His manager might find it better and more 'commerical' that way, though, I know the Goo's, personally don't want to do this for only commericalism (that is what they have said in the past). I just wanted to say that Oct 29th's Latrobe concert was my very first and all I can say is total Euphoria!!!!!!!!! The guys kicked f**cking ass!!!!!!!!!!! It was a night I will never forget. Just recently I posted for info on backstage passes. Well I tried the tour bus thingy and it worked!!! I got to meet all the guys and got to talk to Robby for quite some time and he autographed my Dizzy cd cover. Johnny was so handsome in person. When he said "Hi, how are you?" I almost passed out- no joke! I know my encounter was not as gooey as most of your alls (can you tell I'm a hillbilly) but it was a magical night for me. I find myself like reliving it over and over again in my head. Wondering if all was like real. And ya know in a small sort of way I was sad because that memory which will last an entire lifetime for me, was probably erased from their memory in moments. Well I'm going to drink a few and reminisce and drown in my memories. Cheers all you guys. Message-ID: <7111-381BCB3F-1947@storefull-611.iap.bryant.webtv.net> Hi everyone!! Just wanted to write about my trip to see the Goos in concert. Well me and my friend Vicci left Columbus about 10:00 am on friday. We got to Latrobe about 2:30 pm. It was a really beautiful day. Latrobe is a really nice little city in PA. There is giant hills all around. Oh well any way, went over to the college about 4:oo pm and walked around the mp3 village for a while, and then went up to where the doors to go in Kennedy hall was. There were only about 5 or 6 people up there when we got there so I sat on this wall for awhile to rest my feet from driving , LOL. I asked some of the girls who were sitting there if any of them were from the list and one of them said she was , and looked away. She never even asked me what my nic was. I stood at the doors until about 6:10 when they finally let us in. All it was , was a big gym. The stage was set up at one end , and bleachers were pulled out on both sides. I was glad it was a small place because you could see really good!!! Sometimes I feel a little funny because you see I am 39 years old. I have loved rock&roll since I was 12 years old. When I was a teenager I went to concerts all the time. I don't look or act 39, but I saw all those college kids and younger kids and I just felt a little funny I guess. When I first got into the goo goo dolls I had not been listening to music for a while and then I started listening to them and I just really got into them. I am a very lonely person and the goos music filled a big void in my life. Its so hard to say what you feel on here but I just really want to say this.; Sorry this is so long!!! You don't know how many people in my life cut me down for going to a rock concert at my age and nagging me about liking the goos. The whole thing started to make me feel guilty about liking them, well to hell with those people who do that to me!!! I am sorry I just had to vent those feelings. Back to the concert (finally) anyway at 6:30 the lights went out and mp3 presented 4 bands who all played abit one was mode, I sorry I forget the others. Then about 8:30 or so Tonic came out and played. I had never heard them but I thought they were great!!!!!!! That first song they sing "It goes Open up your eyessss" Is that on their CD?????? The lead singer of tonic said he grew up not far from Latrobe in Washington PA, and he said his family was in the crowd. After Tonic , the Goos came out about (9:40 ) and they were great!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I saw them in Columbus in August and this show was so much better. I sat on the bleachers about 8 foot from the stage. My feet were hurting so bad but I did not care. It was really hot in there. The goos show was so good . Johnny and Robby talked to the crowd and played the game were you clap above your head. I thought the show was just a little short. I did get a guitar pick which was great. I took pictures and you know I could see the details on their faces when I was there but the camera did not pick those up. I was bummed about that, so if anyone went to the Latrobe show and took like front row pictures PLEASE e-mail me ok!!!!!!!! After the show my friend Vicci and I went out and it was really chilly now and i was hot and sweaty and no coat but we walked back to where the Goos buses were, (on the way back there I got Tonic's autograph)and there was about ooo 30 people waiting out there. There was security everywhere but we stood out there for awhile"I was shriving the whole time" A tour bus pulled around to the back and first Nathan came out with a Halloween wig on and rode a bike around for a while laughing. Then Robby and his girlfriend came out and got right on the bus. About 10 minutes later Johnny came out and everyone started screaming ,"Johnny come here and sign some autographs" He stopped and then walked over and all those people swarmed him. It was weird!! I had my Dizzy up the girl CD cover just in case and I tried to get to him but it was a madhouse. I just stood frozen like a moment in time, and I could barley see his face from all the screaming girls. After about 2 minutes, He said , " I got go Ladies" I heard the tour manger say,"Lets go, I am in no mood for this shit!!!"" So Johnny got on the bus. It was the first time in my whole life I had ever seen anyone from TV up close. I was so so close to getting to meet him but I guess I am just not lucky. So I stood there freezing as the bus pulled away. It was a huge bus and I watched it go down the drive and disappeared into the night. I just stood there, I was so cold and so tired and I still had 4 hour drive ahead of me. You know its funny believe me I am no groupie or nothing , I just wanted to meet them and say hi to a band who has brought me so much happiness in my other wise sad life. I have always been so shy and scared to do anything like go up to a bands tour bus, but I did it , and even though I did not get to meet them it was an experience . I know this story will probley not be hip enough for some of you, but that ok cause you know what Johnny says," The hippest are boreing anyway!" I am proud to be a Goo Goo Dolls fan and nothing or no one can take that from me... Again, I am sorry this has been so long , Please don't write me complaining about how long, OK.. For those of you who enjoyed this story, I am glad!!! I have two questions. I'm going to the Goo show at the Bren Center in Irvine on November 17th. I'm becoming a little paranoid about going now because of the crowd surfing and stuff that's been going on at other shows. I planned on getting there early to get a really good standing spot...but now I'm thinking, should I really risk it? Here's the thing, I'm going with my mom. We're SHORT. I'm 5'2 at most, my mom is 4'10. I'm not really into the pain thing. I need some opinions....'cause I don't want to end up passed out, I don't want my mom to end up passed out...so I'm thinkin', maybe back a ways will be better for us. It would be AWESOME if we could get front row and all, but I'm truly worried for our health and shit. thanks. Please answer privatly. THe second question ties in. If I did decide to sit in seats at the Bren Center...would it be really far away or is it pretty decent? Could anyone make a rough guess as to how far away it is? Thanks again. Answer this all privately. Man...this time change thing has already screwed me up...i'm up at 4AM...it feels like 5 damnit! ~Ani >From: HEIDI1026@aol.com >To: ttb@onelist.com, goo@mailinglists.org >CC: HEIDI1026@aol.com >Subject: [GOO] Temple Show 10/28 :o) >Date: Sat, 30 Oct 1999 03:21:33 EDT > >Hey Goo World!!! Well, What is worse than not having the Goos around at all?...Having them in town but not being there. They will be in Atlanta tonight playing a Halloween party for star 94, local radio station. I wasn't lucky enough to win tickets over the radio and now I'm stuck thinking about it all day today. I know that I won't be able to sleep tonight. I just want to wish everyone who is going, I think there are 2 on the list, a great night. It will be a blast. Take lots of pictures and let me know if they come out. And if you think about it, tell them that Jessie, in Atlanta, is a huge fan and wishes she was there. So, that's my sad tale. I hope everyyone has a great day. I have had numerous questions asking about when I need John's presents by and how big they can be so I thought I would just post it to the whole list instead of having to reply to everyone. DUE DATE FOR JOHN'S BIRTHDAY BOX GIFTS/PRESENTS/CARDS ETC. IS NOV. 17TH, THAT MEANS EVERYTHING NEEDS TO BE SENT OUT BY THE 17TH, CAUSE IF YOU ARE LATE GETTING IT OUT THEN YOU CAN SEND IT PRIORITY MAIL AND IT SHOULD GET HERE BY THE 20TH. I have extended it because there is a concert on the 17th and some people wanna see if they can get there stuff to him at the concert. But I will be sending the box off priority mail, insurance and everything on the 20th which is a Saturday. I have not put a limit on the size of things you can send yet. Try to keep it moderate. If it is like some posterboard sign or something we can just roll it up so it won't get bent up. I have got the stuff to decorate the box with, I'm doing it in a sky blue sort of color with metallic silver puffy paint to write on the outside. If anyone has any ideas about decorating it please e-mail me. Message-ID: <19991101090243.94174.qmail@hotmail.com> For the most part, it depends on where your standing...I came to find out the hard way that smack dab in the middle wasn't a great idea what-so-ever! You can be standing right up front and not have anything happen to you; but take a cpl steps back and that's where all the action is...cuss your getting pushed from every direction, and all the pressure is focused RIGHT there. Here's another scenario...You take one person shoving into another, it falls on everyone like dominos...that happened to me; HOWEVER, I tried to prevent myself from pushing into my friend next to me, hence, I had the pressure of 5 or 6 ppl on me and it was getting to he point where I couldn't stand up. So finally I was able to locate the ONE person who was starting it, confronted her, and that's where it stopped. However, I had to miss out on a very good song! Also, just cause YOU didn't get kicked in the head or what have you, doesn't mean the crowd was calm...if the guys are having to stop mid-song, hey, there's a problem. But the thing that pisses me off most, is the ppl that go there to really watch them play are usually the ones who never dare to venture up close, or have a miserable time due to all the selfish ppl who go there to vent violently. I remember when I was in high school and this whole phenomenon took hold...and we would go to dances and throughout the entire evening, with every fast song, then men would be out there brutally bashing eachother to a pulp...and the only time the woman would get to enjoy themselves was during slow songs, when the men would 'suddenly' change back into thier former selves...so I highly disregard the theory that men must be this way on occassion...bullshit. Even my fiance, who's a REAL man, thinks it's stupid...stupid, stupid, stupid. Last time I went to a Goo concert with about ten other ppl there happened to be two ppl there that someone in our posse new...well, they tried to start moshing in a crowd of 7 - 40 yr olds and it didn't go over too well...needless to say, they looked stupid and no one invites them to our get-togethers anymore. And then I switch the channel to MTV and see last year's Family Values tour showing, and all I see are a bunch of dillwads beathing eachother up, and NO woman...not a-one-in-sight! Now, I KNOW there are a lot of female fans of Korn, LB, and such and such...but of course, they aren't stupid enough to venture down there...wish they might! I missed them ALL 3 times this weekend doing stupid Halloween stuff~ ~I like the fact that they AT LEAST had an advertisement of/for the Goos in thier mag...but I was kinda dissapointed that the wording was all blurry...ALSO, on page 417, it says the following, "What was the overarching significance of your selection of Beastie Boys over Goo Goo Dolls? Was it a nod to Beastie Adam Yaunch's smashmouth pacifism? An emphatic nuh-uh to the idea of Goo Goo? ...I take this to mean that the Goos didn't acctualy 'win' the slot reserved for band of the year...so why then were they 'chosen' or end up playing at the awards ceremony...don't get me wrong, I think it's fantastic and was rather disapointed to find out that more ppl (ok, men) didn't vote for our guys...Do you think they tried to get Beastie Boys to play first and they said 'no', or do you guys think the publishers wanted the Goos to play orig. and were just surprised by the voting? Message-ID: <0.bb90e1e1.254f5a6c@aol.com> I apologize for how long this has taken me to type out....I was home this weekend and had wayyyy to much to do. GOO GOO DOLLS: Life is good for this rock band *Then there is a photo* TOO MANY GOOD SONGS by J.D. Considine Ask bassist Robbie Takac how things are going for his band, the Goo Goo Dolls, and you can almost hear his smile across the telephone line. "It's almost like a dream come true," he ays, over the phone from a tour stop in Lansing, Mich. "I mean, our biggest problem with getting songso n the radio right now is we have too many songs on the radio -- which is not a bad position for yourself to be in, really." since releasing "Dizzy Up the Girl" in 1998, the Goo Goo Dolls have had two No. 1 singles -- "Iris," which also appeared on the soundtrack to "City of Angels," and "Slide" -- have been on the charts almost constantly. "Black Balloon," the group's current single, has been in the Top 20 for several weeks. Although the Goo GOo Dolls have been touring and recording since the mid-80's, most music fans were unaware of the band before"Name," the big hit off their 1995 album, "A Boy Named Goo." Still, Takac doesn't seem surprised by the band's sudden rise to the top. "I was actually surprised that all the other albums didn't (do that)," he says, deadpan. "No, I'm just kidding," he adds, laughing. In truth, Takac is grateful that his band is finally doing so well. He and the other Goo Goo DOlls hae used their success to help others, by having USA Harvest volunteers on hand at all the band's concerts to collect canned goods for the needy. "We just ask that people bring something to the concert," he says. "Any kind of canned good is fine." At the moemnt, the Goo Goo Dolls are on a tour sponsored by MP3.com, the online compnay that uses audio compression files to distribute music recordings. Takac admits that he's not much of a computer person himself. "We have laptops and stuff, but I really don't do much of that," he says. "I actually just got a WinAmp player (for playing MP3 files) just recently, but haven't used it. To be honest with you, I don't have the time to sort through 50,000 songs and find nine good ones." Still, he likes the idea of digital music ditribution, particularly since it will likely shift the balance of power between musicians and record companies. "The music industry is really getting worried about these downloadable audio compression files," he says. "It's really putting the record companies in an odd position. Like all of a sudden they're distributing singles online for no money." "You know, rock bands are used to getting ripped off, but record labels aren't." he adds. "I think that the artists will probably get a fair shake on this whole online thing. Which is good. I mean, we don't make any more from selling music on a CD. The record companies do." ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 1 Nov 1999 16:25:51 EST To: goo@mailinglists.org From: OpIvyGrl1@aol.com Subject: Cosmo girl Message-ID: <0.bc16604c.254f5f5f@aol.com> Hey Everyone I just was reading cosmo girl and there is a picture of Johnny in it.
