Rockers-on-the-rise to play Chameleon

LANCASTER NEW ERA -- This Weekend Section, p. 15 -- 03/26/98

"One of central Pennsylvania's fastest rising stars will visit Lancaster this weekend as Harrisburg-based rockers Fuel will take the stage at the Chameleon Club on Saturday night at 9 p.m."

"Joining Fuel will be special guests Modern Yesterday and Solution A.D. Doors will open at 8 p.m. for the all ages/21 and over event."

"Fuel will also be in town next weekend, playing at the village on Saturday, April 4."

"Fuel's stock has been rising for the past year, and with the release of their major-label debut LP, 'Sunburn' ready to hit the shelves on April 1, the band is ready to go over the top."

"The first single for the album, 'Shimmer' has been receiving heavy airplay on radio stations across the country, and Fuel appears poised to make the leap to big-time."

"Fuel's sound is a distinct combination of solid licks and pounding rhythms combined with commanding and catchy lyrics."

"The four-man lineup consists of Brett Scallions (lead vocals, guitar), Carl Bell (guitar, vocals), Jeff Abercrombie (bass) and Kevin Miller (drums). Bell handles the songwriting duties for the group."

"Formed in Western Tennessee in the early '90's, Fuel moved to Harrisburg in 1995, citing the central locale between big-market cities like New York, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, Baltimore, and Washington D.C."

"The strategy paid off, as Fuel soon began developing a following across the East Coast."

"The band's audience grew in 1996 when the band released its independent record, 'Porcelain,' pressing 10,000 copies. An early version of 'Shimmer' soon received local airplay, and the momentum soon carried Fuel to a contract offer from Sony's 550 Records after a performance for 3,000 fans at Millersville University."

"Fuel's first release with Sony was a college-only promo called 'Hazleton,' which enjoyed a long run on the College Music Journal charts. The band went on to tour with successful acts like Dinosaur, Jr., The Verve Pipe and The Toadies."

"'Sunburn' was produced by Steven Haigler, who has worked with groups like The Pixies, Quicksand and Local H. Tom Lard-Alge (Wallflowers, Dave Matthews Band) handled the mixing. The album was recorded at Long View Farms in Massachusettes, but the pastoral setting had little influence on Fuel's hard- edged, muscular sound."
