Far too much work to switch gauges for specific songs. I just choose the ones that feel the most comfortable while playing.

Yeah I agree with Christian, i usually use a nice set of mediums, cuz they're nice n thick and i hate thin strings.

Oh god I snap strings all the time lol, some songs its best to either tune slightly lower and use a capo, or use different strings, eg. a b-string if u wanna tune the g to an A if that makes sense :S lol erm, if u use string and fret oils strings will supposedly snap less often too.

On acoutics,  I use light or Medium if made by Elixar.
Eletric, well If I play the Fender I use light. If I play the Les Paul,  I use extra light. Only because its easier to bend the strings on one guitar than on the other with out snapping. And if you ever get hit with them, It's a burn that will last for a few stinging minutes lol

Now on the bass, I use what ever.
