Title: Windsor Show
Post by laurengoo on Feb 20th, 2011, 11:12pm
I have to start this from the time I entered the actual casino, because it pretty much starts from there....

So I enter the casino with Clo (my friend who went with me) & we decided to have dinner at the Market Buffet. As I was walking by, I almost ran into Mike, Korel & someone else I didn't recognize. I looked at Korel & he smiled at me. Didn't eat much for dinner.

Got to pick up my tickets around 6pm & met up with Shannon & her hubby. I asked when I could pick up my m&g pass, nobody was really clear on what was going on, so I was told to come back in about a half an hour (during that time I played 1 slot machine & won $70 bucks!! Woot!) I come back to find a group of people waiting in line to get their pass by the Box Office. Shannon took a picture of me when I got mine!

We met by the main entrance of the Colosseum for about 45 minutes before they let us in to meet them. The VIP's who basically live at the casino got to go first. Walking down that hallway and actually seeing them there my stomach went into knots. I couldn't look up apparently, I got the words out, but I think they're used to this. They were really nice people I was so excited & still nervous & really red.

John said thanks for coming & as any Canadian would from 'Canadaland' ;) I thanked him. I felt so stupid for not looking at them but I was so nervous! It was an amazing experience, even if it was only for about 15 seconds.

They put on a really good show too! Came out with Sweetest Lie. I was literally the only one in my row standing. Really people! THESE ARE THE GOO GOO DOLLS! As soon as Name came on people BOOKED it to the front, luckily I got close. Got some great pictures. Which I will post as soon as I uploaded them. My favourite song of the night was SMASH. I love when Robby does it!! :D Shannon had gotten a set list which I am hoping she'll post too!

Best night of my life!!!!!

The BEST part of the Windsor show was Lauren finally getting to meet the band. That made my whole night!!! Her excitement was palpable all night. I was so happy for her.

Poor Terri called me Saturday and she was sick in bed and unable to go. We missed you Terri! My husband came with me instead. We literally drove through a freaking blizzard to get there. Thankfully it's only about a 1/2 hour drive from my house to the casino but the roads were AWFUL! We met up with Lauren and her friend around 6pm. I thought Caesar's Windsor was a beautiful casino. I also loved that the gaming floors were non-smoking. I could actually breathe. Lauren had to meet up for her m&g so Joel (the hubby) and I went to eat something. We ran into Lauren again while she was waiting and as we were standing there John walked right by us with security Mike. That's a first for me. I've never seen John just randomly walking around. I almost passed out.

The venue itself was huge. I didn't expect it to be so big. We had front row on the inside isle seats right next to the center section. GREAT seats. I happened to randomly be sitting next to two sisters from Windsor that Terri and I met at the London Goo show years back. It was nice chatting with them again.

The only downside to the WHOLE night was that despite having front row seats fans seemed to think it was a GA show and that they could just stand in front of us at the rail. There was a WIDE isle between our seats and the rail. Security told all of us in the front we weren't allowed to stand at the rail until Name came on. But everyone else at the venue took that as their shot to just stand in front of us. RUDE!!!! I have never been so appalled by fan behavior in my life. What makes a person think they can just stand in front of someone who has seats right there? At first we asked this group to nicely move and they just ignored us. Then we had to get mean and they still ignored us. Finally we had to get security to make them move. It was ridiculous. The security guys were really nice and agreed that it wasn't right they thought they could stand there.

Once the show started and we stood ... not at the rail. That same group of fans shoved their way to the front again. I didn't let them in front of me but they pushed their way in front of the poor people to the left of me. Appalling!!! As the night went on more and more people shoved their way to the front and tried to stand in front of us. I'm 5' tall it's not that hard to see over me. Especially when the people pushing were 6' tall men! It was just madness. I could not imagine myself ever shoving my way in front of someone else like that. Where are your manners people? Security would make them move behind us but they never returned to their seats. They stood behind us and continued to shove us forward inch by inch. At one point it got so bad the security usher stood next to me so no one would stand at the rail. Some woman literally shoved me out of the way to ask him a question. I don't mean accidentally bumped either. I mean she took both hands and shoved me forward. If I didn't have a hand on the rail she would have pushed me over. She had at least 100 lbs on me. Seriously people!!!! Once Name came on it was a free for all rush to the rail. I got my spot and my husband stood behind me to protect me from the madness. I've never encountered such rude fans in my life. And I'm from Detroit! It really put a damper on the night for me. But Lauren getting her m&g made up for all of that. Yay Lauren!!!!!

I really enjoyed Steven Page. He was unexpectedly funny. I knew most of his songs. But it was so fun how he was stop in the middle of a song and make fun of the audience. He and his keyboard player had such a fun banter going on. It made his show very enjoyable and fun.

The show itself was great and I managed to get a set list. Woo Hoo!!! I knew John had been sick but he still put on a great show. He was happy and gave out many smiles to us. You could see him cough every now and again and see him grab a candy or cough drop from the side. But he sang great. Robby and Mike were their usual energetic selves. Robby was very happy and smiley. Here's the songs in order ...

Sweetest Lie
Big Machine
Slide
Dizzy
Here is Gone
Smash
2nd Time Around
Can't Let it Go
Black Balloon
Home
Better Days
Stay With You
Now I Hear
Tucked Away
Name
As I Am
Iris
Notbroken
Broadway

The drive home was insane to say the least. Not one single road or highway had been plowed. There were no visible lanes or tracks on the highway. I couldn't go more than 40mph. We actually saw someone spin out onto the embankment and then keep right on driving. It was by far the worst snowfall we've had yet this year. And we were only supposed to get 1-3". It was closer to a foot! I won't even get into how long we waited for border patrol. We were the 5th car back and it took a half an hour. Apparently we got there right before shift change. The guy before shift change was searching cars and taking up to 5 minutes per car. Then we waited for shift change. Finally we got a guy who asked a few questions, checked our licenses and let us go. Crazy.

This is a link to the pictures that a local photographer takes of all the shows at Caesars. I saw him walking up & down the aisle beside me his camera was amazing.

I will post a few of my photos soon & the one from my m&g. If any of you have me on facebook, they have been already posted there.
