Bringing their catalog of hits to one of college football's premier bowl games, the Grammy-nominated Goo Goo Dolls are kicking off the new year as the headliners of Miami's Discover Orange Bowl, taking place on today, Jan. 3, at Sun Life Stadium in Miami Gardens. We caught up with band front man, Johnny Rzeznik, and chatted about tonight's performance, the band's latest album, "Something for the Rest of Us," and plans for the new year.

You just released your latest album, 'Something for the Rest of Us' last summer. As your ninth studio album, how was the process different this time around?
We were more involved in the production of the album than we had been in the past. We also wanted to write songs reflecting the times we live in.

What made you choose 'Something for the Rest of Us' as the name of the album?
The album is for and about everyday people.

Are you excited abut performing in Miami during the Orange Bowl half time show?
I love to play at these big events because everyone is so excited to be there at the game. It's easy to entertain them.

What's your favorite part about visiting Miami?
Going out in South Beach is always fun, the architecture is fantastic. The people are always beautiful and interesting.

Any particular restaurants or other venues you like to visit when you're here?
Da Leo Trattoria has got great penne all'arrabiata.

With a new year upon us, what would you say were your biggest highlights and challenges of 2010?
Putting the album out was great and touring the UK was amazing. I think the biggest challenges of 2010 for us was working around the decline of the record business.

Any new year's resolutions?
I'd like to learn to be a better listener.

The Goo Goo Dolls join a long-standing tradition of top entertainment showcased during the Orange Bowl halftime show, which has included Kelly Clarkson, Jessica Simpson, Ciara, ZZ Top, and the Doobie Brothers in recent years. The 2011 Discover Orange Bowl will feature the Virginia Tech Hokies against the Stanford Cardinals. ESPN will broadcast the game and the halftime show. Click here for more information.
