Title: VIP
Post by Shannon on Apr 30th, 2010, 12:28pm
I was just reading through all the IM threads on the VIP packages and just wondered what you all thought of it? My general feeling is that VIP packages come from a separate pool of tickets than the IM presale tickets do. I realize it's a lot of money but some people actually do have it and will spend it.

I don't know. I just don't get worked up about this kind of thing. You either buy them or you don't.

Thoughts?

I'm not going into my thoughts and feeling right now, but here is a post I made at AG after looking through the numbers in the presale.  I honestly do not expect it to stay posted there so I'm posting it here as well.

I looked into the presale numbers at both venues that went on sale yesterday. If you use that little 'See More' button wisely and spend a little time, you can find out every ticket that is being offered through the presale.

No rules are being broken, nothing is being skewed, here are the absolute facts in detail for the PNC show. Assuming the GGDs and their people are confident that these presales are being done 100% fairly, posting this information should not upset anyone.

Capacity of venue (source: Google) - 20500
Number of tickets offered for AA presale - 874
Number of Platinum tickets - 6, or 3 packages
Gold - 44
Silver - 112
Regular - 712 (only 16 of these were in the $53 range, the rest were $43)

874/20500 = 4.2%
712/20500 = 3.5%

The agreement, per IM staff a couple years ago, was that the IM secured 4% of the venue tickets for the presale. Seeing as regular tickets at this venue account for 3.5%, it appears that the VIP tickets ARE part of the IM ticket allotment.

Platinum tickets - in the front row of sections 102 and 103

Gold (100% in the 100s level)
Best available - Section 102 row A
Worst - Section 102 and 103, row E
Seats are all located in rows A-E of Sections 102 and 103

Silver (100% in the 100s level)
Best available - Section 101 or 104, row A
Worst - Section 102, row S ($150, 19 rows back)
Seats are located primarily in the EGHish rows of sections 101, 102, 103 and 104

Regular (22% in the 100s level, 63.7% in 300 LEVEL. Only 2% of the regular tickets offered are the higher $53 price level, the rest are second level pricing)
Best available - Section 101, row Q (off center) or Section 102, row S
Worst available - Section 302 and 303, row O
Seats are primarily in the 300 level.

I have been a member of the online GGD community for 12 years and have never intentionally lied about anything to anyone. I can assure you that the numbers I have put up here are not lies. If any staff members need further information about how I found the information I did, please message me and I will be happy to show you more evidence in order for you to keep this information posted. I think everyone involved in the IM presales deserves to know what was available and for how much.

Perhaps a colorful pie chart...

Simpler terms

If you want to get tickets for the first 10 rows, you need to pay somewhere between $150-$2000 (not a typo, two thousand).  If you are only willing to pay face value, you will mostly only get 300 level seats, which is not good.

The shit hit the fan on the IM boards and they say they are going to change it, but I kind of suspect that's only because their inflated ticket packages didn't sell as well as they thought they would.

Which is why I'm happy with paying $12-$35 and going to a GA show....

I get it, but I do not know exactly why people are so mad. Are people saying that its unfair because no can really pay that much for a good seat, so everyone is stuck with shitty seats? Even so, it seems like thats the way life works, so I say deal with it! :)

I really didn't mean for that to sound bitchy, haha.
I do get why people are upset though.

Ha. Been there. Done that. Different band, same M.O. I don't do that any more.

People are mad because it implies their top priority isn't their fans, it's the people with the most money to toss around. Maybe that is "the way life works," but it's a really disrespectful way for them to treat their fanbase.

I can make sweet pie charts at some point in the future btw... :P

Here are my issues.  If you don't agree with me, that's fine.

1.  IM members pay for membership.  Part of that membership includes access to ticket pre-sales.  An IM staff member said that 4% of the venue was allocated for the IM.  Suddenly, that 4% is cut into by 'premium' packages which eat up the best tickets offered through the IM.

2.  There are price levels for seats set by Ticketmaster/Live Nation/promoters/whoever.  For the two shows that have gone on sale for the summer tour, the price of the best seats, the first couple rows, are priced at about $53.  The GGDs fanclub is selling these tickets for $250 (by adding in a t shirt and a poster..).  That's 5 times their face value.  They are essentially scalping their own tickets.

3.  If you have read any of the GGDs recent interviews or seen them during their spring tour, you have been subjected to them (mainly John) talking about the tough economic times and how we need to bond together.  You will have heard John say he is trying to be a voice for the everyday working man (I could start a whole new thread about that bullshit, but I won't) on this new album.  Trying to be the guy who speaks for the people who have lost their jobs and are struggling to make ends meet while selling $53 tickets for $2000 is mind blowingly hypocritical.  Saying 'I'm doing this for the money' and doing it for the money is infinitely more respectful to the fans than saying one thing and doing another.

Hold off your pie charts until the next summer show goes on sale.  I will provide you numbers to make 'before' and 'after' pie charts.

Oh ok. I missed the fact that IM members are supposed to get presale for the best tickets, it makes more sense now. That is actually, really unfair. I hope if they come to Canada (preferably Halifax again) they won't do that. They didn't have pre sales I don't think for that show, but I paid like 60 dollars and was on the gate. I was a happy camper.

Sorry if I seemed like a total snarky bitch. I would actually rather die than pay 2000 to see anyone. 200 would be my limit.

Think that's bad? Check out Ticketmaster VIP seats for Bon Jovi.

pirates.

:pirate: :pirate: :pirate:

Edit:
Oh, yeah, I almost forgot. If you're a fan fool enough to buy those VIP seats for a Jovi concert you get to suffer the indignity of having Jovi's security goons go searching the arena for bodaceous bimbos that they will place in front of you during the concert. So instead of seeing the band you get to see some chick bouncing her tatas around while she tries to make believe she knows one of the songs. Gawd awful situation. /end rant
