Takac, Goo Goo Dolls strike chord with schools
Business First of Buffalo - by Tim O'Shei Business First

Robby Takac cradled the bass guitar in his hands, intently focused through the yellow-tinted glasses that cast a haunting onstage effect during a rock career that has made him rich, famous and frustrated.

Takac listened and played, his ears and fingers following the voice of Grace Stumberg. Like Takac, Stumberg has long, dark hair and chocolate-brown eyes that offer a window into the emotions that music evokes. Like Takac, too, Stumberg has been both enchanted by song and perplexed at the proposition of making it a professional pursuit.

They are at opposite ends of the business: Takac, a 43-year-old rock star, one-third of the multi-platinum-selling Goo Goo Dolls; Stumberg, a high school senior, whose mom is a nurse, dad is a corrections officer, and who earns her spending money working at a pizzeria.

But right now, they were at opposite ends of nothing but a song - a song that Stumberg wrote, and Takac was helping her record. She provided the melody; he provided the bass.
