Title: need to know
Post by lemming on Jan 14th, 2006, 3:58pm
Does anyone know anything about the song acoustic #3, i really want to know what they wrote it about, what inspired it, also the song name

I don't know too much about the song, like the exact reason it was written, but the title, or lack there of, was to keep the song from becoming a single.  From what I remember, the original version was longer and probably had a name, but John apparently didn't want it to be a single and the record execs had their eye on it.  He shortened the song and didn't name it so it wouldn't be a potential single.

I thought John just purposely made it short because he didn't want it to be a single.  I don't know why it isn't named and I have read what it is about somewhere, but I don't remeber where.  I'll try to find it.

Not for sure on this, but I thought I rembered John stating that the song had personal meaning to him and he wanted to somewhat keep it personal by not allowing it all the publicity of a single.
and as for EOAC.... I think that is the version that was elaborated later with the strings (violins and all) the original was still acoustic only, and was longer, but was basically always with just John playing. Again don't quote me but I think I recall reading all that somewhere

yeah, that was the song they got other string instrumet players to come in when they "re-recorded" that song.

to me the song is about "being heard"

the version of Acoustic #3 on EOAC is just a remixed version of the original with an instrumental extension.  There aren't more lyrics on the EOAC version.

I always thought it was about his/John's mom. I didn't read that anywhere, I just thought that from listening to the lyrics and hearing what he's said, on Behind the Music and other places, about his parents.

Let the song mean what you want it to mean.  Let it be more personal for you.

In one interview, I remember Robby or John saying how they'll find a song they absolutely love and want to know what it means, but when they find out, the song loses its intimacy and mystery; they can't look at the same song in the same way again.  Sometimes ambiguity is what makes it beautiful . . .

This song was eventually put on Dawsons creek, so i'm not sure if it was written for that series or not but it was on there a couple times, well actually a lot.

I believe it would be safe to say that song was written for "Dizzy Up the Girl", not specifically for the television show "Dawson's Creek".  It probably appeared on the show because someone that worked on the production crew/behind the scenes found the song appropriate on more than one occasion.

That's always been my gut instinct/personal opinion too. That it was about his mom and her dreams and never quite being able to realize those dreams.
