Hey everyone, I've been looking round on the web and I can't find out how many Number Ones the Goos have had now. Being a UK person, I don;t know these things. :P But I'd love to find out!

Um...am I the only one here who doesn't understand what an 'adult chart' is? ???

Here we just have a chart! It's all very straightforward...

Heh, this thread made me want to research Goo stuff, so get ready for the next question in Saz and Rogue's Goo Goos pop quiz ;)

What about album sales? Anyone know anything about the figures? Gold, platinum etc?

Just while we're on the subject of charts and sales and stuff.

I�m not sure what Billboards definition is of an *Adult* chart, but here is my take.
Musical genres that are aimed more at young adults and teenagers, such as hip-hop, rap, alternative, pop.... are usually ranked as �Mainstream�, they have their own charts. Very often, the more subdued genres and some �pop� artists are often geared more towards an �adult � listening group. These artists and songs will often cross from the �Adult� charts to the �Mainstream� charts, but it doesn�t usually go the other way. �Give a Little Bit� has been steadily climbing the Mainstream chart, but has been sitting pretty in the Top 10/Top5 on the Adult chart since it�s release. I hope that helps.

Now, onto your second question.
In the US, the RIAA (recording industry of america association) certifies albums/singles as gold, platinum, multi-platinum, or diamond according to their sales. In recent years they started certifying longform videos as well, but only gold and platinum.

albums/singles:

gold: 500,000 sold
platinum: 1 million sold
multi-platinum: 2 million + sold
diamond: 10 million sold

longform videos:
gold: 50,000 sold
platinum: 100,000 sold

that being said:
A Boy Named Goo:
In March of 1995 ABNG was released, it was certified gold in November 1995.
In February of 1996 it was certified platinum.
In July of 1996 it was certified double-platinum.

Dizzy Up The Girl:
In October of 1998 DUTG was released, it was certified gold/platinum in December 1998.
In March of 1999 it was certified double-platinum, in November of 1999 it was certified triple-platinum.

Gutterflower:
In April of 2002 Gutterflower was released, it was certified gold in July of 2002.

Live in Buffalo:
In November of 2004, LIB was released as a longform video/cd set.
In January of 2005 it was certified gold and platinum.

I'll first off say that I could very well be wrong, as I am thinking Canadian, and thinking radio rather than thinking American, and thinking charts... but it's worth a shot anyway.

When it says "Adult" it makes me think of the radio format "Adult Contemporary." There are a few variations of that, "Hot AC" "Light AC" etc... And the Adult Contemporary format is generally your typical easy listening station.

I work at a station called "EZ Rock" that has a base of Phil Collins, Celine Dion, Rod Stewart, Elton John, etc... and is "spiced up" with some Matchbox 20, Hoobastank, Shania Twain and of course Goo!

So yeah, when they say "Adult" it kinda makes me think of that. It's geared towards the 25+ market (mostly females.) Or I think of the Much More Music station.

If all that is way off... sorry. :-X

Well, I was impressed with them before of course, but I'm even MORE impressed now ;D

I wanted to know because someone said to me that people "weren't keen" on the Goos and I wanted to prove 'em wrong ;)

Those figures aren't bad for a band people 'aren't keen on', huh? ;)

Doesn't all this chart stuff get confusing?

Maybe that explains why OUR chart is always so full of utter rubbish. Because we just have the one. In other words, the Top 5 is decided by nine year olds ::)

Yeah, maybe if we had different charts for different genres or something, the Goos might get a look in rather than the rubbish... ::)
