The trip is already cursed. Flights aren't working, the hotel they want to put me in is full, I'm not old enough to get a car from the preferred rental agency...

Depending on the city your interview is in, maybe you could take a train.
They should be able to set you up in another hotel.
And if the car rental agency isn't working out, maybe you could look into one of these:

You'll figure it out. If you are having trouble making arrangements, let the company/firm/institution know, and maybe they can help you.
(Maybe someone here on the boards lives near the location where your interview will take place.)

Issues have mostly be resolved. I wasn't doing any of the work, I was just on the phone with the person arranging it all. She actually said "It should not be this difficult to get you here".
(And I think of everyone on the board, YOU live the closest to where the interview will take place )

I haven't used Zipcar, but someone was praising it, so I found the website and read up on it. It seems so cool. You track down any car, walk up to it, and drive away. I can't imagine the bizarre stuff that happens in some of those cars though...
