"I was watching the Goo Goo Dolls on Behind The Music," McCain says, recalling the song's genesis, "and there's poor Johnny Rzeznik, going 'Poor me! Waah-waah-waah!' They were just complaining about everything, and I thought, 'This is such malarkey!' Then there was a whole segment about Johnny's writers block and I about puked on myself laughing at how stupid it was! You've got to be kidding me! We live the most ridiculously privileged lives, and the worst they can come up with to gain sympathy for these idiots is writer's block! Gimme a break! So I was sitting there laughing at him, with his chiseled chin and his hairdo and all that other crap, and the song popped out like 14 seconds later!

You watch Behind The Music - you can't help but watch, cause it's like a train wreck - and the ones that are really good are the ones where the rock star gets fucked bad! You want that karmic factor to come into play, like, if you're going to be a multimillionaire then you should have some pretty rough times. It's all 'Waah waah! We signed a bad contract!' - well you put your fucking name on it, moron! And they're all bad contracts! So I was having a hard time feeling sorry for Johnny, but it was brilliant fodder for my songwriting. I hope it gets on the radio and I hope it pisses a bunch of people off!"

LMAO, that's such a great aim!!  Did it do that, does anyone know? I don't think I've ever even heard that song; then again I'd never heard of Edwin McCain 'til I mistakenly downloaded "I'll Be" a few years back like Zeeba did, which said it was by the Goo Goo Dolls.

I really like the song, but I don't know much else about him.
I like the other version. I dunno who sings it, I'm trying to figure it out, because when I did a search it did have the lyrics for the song under Goo Goo Dolls.
