Title: Re: I'm moving across the pond!... Post by tkc1989 on Oct 14th, 2007, 4:21am Hey guys, it's a gap year, meaning I have a year off before I go to uni, meaning I wanna have some fun ;D lol, I'm gonna be working in the mountains so I can pay my way (although the accommodation is already paid for) and then ski, snowboard, all that kinda thing for the rest of the time. So excited ;D ;D :nanner: :nanner:...I've been studying for 13 years, and when you're only 18 years old, that's a long time! |

Title: Re: I'm moving across the pond!... Post by Shannon on Oct 14th, 2007, 10:39am I love the idea of a gap year. I think it's a great idea and something most people need to do before they begin their college/uni studies. I wish we had that concept here in the States. I think when you're 18 many people don't really know what they really want to study. A year to experience life and figure that out is a great idea. |

Some people even take their gap year after their uni studies rather than before, depends on the person. But yeah it's definitely a good thing for those who aren't sure what they want to do in life, or those who just want to get out and work and see the world for a bit! I already have a place at university to study psychology, but I don't start the course til next october ;D :D |

Title: Re: I'm moving across the pond!... Post by Nicole on Oct 14th, 2007, 6:11pm I agree, I am graduating a semester early and going to work at a dressage barn in Vermont for six months. I didn't want to take a year off, but I still wanted to have that work experience and the independence of living on your own before I went away to college. I figured it would be one of the last opportunities I have to concentrate fully on my riding without other responsibilities. |

Title: Re: I'm moving across the pond!... Post by Christian on Oct 15th, 2007, 5:45am Any hiking/camping planned? Banff and the surrounding areas have some great spots. To really get what Alberta offers you need to get out of the urban areas. I went camping with my siblings last August to a group of lakes outside of Canmore, which is about half an hour from Banff and about 10 minutes from Banff National Park. Watched the sun rise here. (yeah, they're a little big :p) http://img151.imageshack.us/img151/7366/1001908an2.th.jpg (http://img151.imageshack.us/my.php?image=1001908an2.jpg) http://img526.imageshack.us/img526/4718/1001900wt0.th.jpg (http://img526.imageshack.us/my.php?image=1001900wt0.jpg) But yeah, have fun. Find the beauty in the place and don't let the locals scare you away. :P |
