Good car, pain in the butt, lemme know what you think.

I used to own a Civic and I loved it. From what I've read and heard it's better now than when I had one.....roomier, more comfortable. I've owned Honda's for the past 15 years and never have any problems with them. That's why I keep buying them.

Thanks Shannon. I've owned the same Oldsmobile for 16 years, so I am having some trouble "letting go", lol. But we're still keeping it. It's one of my husband's vehicles that's gonna get traded in.
I think I have fallen in love with this red '07 Civic LX. I went to the Honda website and chose a color and options (none...everything I would need is stock on this model) and snooped around the lot today...and there it was. Nice looking car.
I'm not sure if I'm going to be able to get a new one or if I will have to go with something used. Gotta talk to "the man".

That's what's nice about the Civic and the CR-V. You can get them absolutely loaded and they're still affordable. When I was in my late teens my mom bought a used Prelude with around 70,000 miles on it. I bought it from her after a couple years and drove it until it had 120,000 miles on it. I never had a problem with it ever. I traded it in on the Civic because I just didn't want a stick anymore ... especially in the stop and go city.

So that's why after 15 years of no problems with Honda's it's hard to convince me to buy anything else. I have a mom Odyssey now ;)

Preludes were awesome!
Yeah, my car has something like 103,000 miles on it.
When I buy a car, it's for keeps. This one has been no problem at all.
I remember in the 80's my sister owned one of those Civic wagons. It was so cute. Then when she had kids she traded it in for a bigger car. The things moms do...   :P

Never owned a Honda myself, but I have heard nothing but amazing things about Civics.

Update:
Well, I did it.
I got a used 2004 Honda Civic Hybrid. (Yeah, I'm a tree-hugger from way back.)
I felt uncomfortable in the newer model Civic, and the used ones just "fit" me better, and I preferred the instrument/dashboard setup in the older cars.

So far I love the car. I especially get a kick when it goes into what I call "stealth mode" at a stop light. It goes real quiet while it uses no gas, and when the light turns green and you step on the gas pedal, it starts up again, and off you go. So cool.
I hope I have good luck with this car.

It looks like this:

I don't think I'd want them to pimp my "new" ride, or even my old ride. It's just stealable bling. I didn't even want power windows for cryin' out loud. I miss my crank, lol.

Christian, I don't know what the fuel economy is yet, since I've only had it for about a week. The EPA rating is 47/48, although they are currently renewing those for all cars, which brings everyone's numbers down to compensate for "real world" conditions.
I'll let you know when I have to fill the tank for the first time. So far I've only used about a quarter of a tank. There's this guage on the dash where I can see the instantaneous mpg. Depending on what sort of driving you are doing, it shows anything from 30 mpg while doing something like accelerating up a hill, to 140 mpg while coasting. So it'll come down to the law of averages, and learning how to drive it efficiently. I'll let you know how that first tank averages out.

i wish i had your car DWG...i just got my permit (lets not talk about it..my fear of the road is high and today i almost hit a escalade....seriously... ALMOST)

anywho....my sister somehoe late last year talked my dad into letting her get (with his help) a 2007 ford focus....and here i am...w/her piece of shit 96 neon.....

everything in the world is wrong with it.....water pump leaks....it has too much oil...the battery died on pirate day ( and forced ME to buy a new one for it)...it needs new tires (the car shakes when it hits 35mph)....and no power windows.....i don't like cranking when the AC doesn't work as well....

Nope, I also test-drove a 2005 Honda Civic that had "crank windows". I was like, "woot! Cranks!" They are so liberating...passengers can open their windows without having to beg the driver, "Can you leave the keys in the car while you go into the 7-11 so we can breathe??". I've always hated when my husband would leave us in his SUV and take the keys into...wherever...and we couldn't open the windows. I always had to open the door to breathe.  ::)
Now I have to remember to close the windows on my newer car before turning it off. I find myself turning the car off, then noticing the window is open, and having to turn the car back on...gimme my crank any day. Oh, well...compromises.

Kristyn! We were just wondering today if you'd started learning to drive yet. Congrats, and don't be too afraid. That's counter-productive. Be careful, be defensive, pay attention to everything around you, but try not to be too afraid. Good luck to you.
Get that car looked at though. I think it may need more than just new tires; have the front end aligned too. Jeez.

Aww...be careful Kris.

I suppose if you choose to live in a city with a good transit system you could get along without a car.

I wish I could ride a bike to work, but I get out at midnight...too dangerous.

Honey, don't do that to yourself!  Do you want to turn into my mother in law, who's afraid to drive and has to rely on other people to get anywhere?!  No.  Trust me, no, you don't!  With more practice behind the wheel, you'll be fine!  Eventually you'll think nothing of zipping along the 6-lane expressway.  Just buckle up, stay alert and obey all the traffic rules, and you'll be fine!  :)

Hey, Christian...I finally have an answer for you. I couldn't calculate the mpg from the tank of gas that came with the car, because it wasn't full when I got it.
I calculated the car's mpg rating once I got a full tank of gas to deal with. That tank took me 571 miles, and used up 12.066 gallons, which comes out to 47.3 mpg.
So it's right on target according to the "old" EPA figures of 47/48 mpg. They can take their new lower ratings and stick 'em up their tailpipe.

I did, but I figured the Honda would hold up much longer.

Shannon...

I test drove the new CRV and it was ok.  I thought there were a few too many blind spots.  Plus, I have kids that I cart from sport to sport and needed something a little bigger.  Plus my hubby is tall and my son is on his way to matching his height.  I am much happier with the Pilot.  It is actually shorter than my last car even though it feels larger.  I bought mine at CarMax and got a great deal I think.  The car is a 2006 and it only had 6,100 miles on it.  It is loaded too.

I'm hoping the Hondas hold up as well as I've heard. Geez, my Olds has lasted me 16 years, and this past weekend it did 42 mpg on the highway. It's nowhere near that good around town (about 20 mpg tops). I guess we'll keep it for a while longer.
I noticed a lot of the new cars have bad blind spots. That was one of the reasons I didn't get the new Civic. The older model provided better visibility all around.
How does that CarMax thing work? You look up cars online, and find one in your area?

Well I had a 95 Pontiac that just was not doing well and was not doing well for the past 2 years or so.  I was tired of it over heating etc.  So it has been at least 2 years that I have been wanting to get something.  I got lucky because my dad gave me a car.  Would have loved to have kept it, but it was a 2 seater.  Ummm thanks dad but where is everyone gonna sit?  LOL

CarMax you can look up cars online.  The one by me only sells used cars.  They will bring a car to you from anywhere really.  You don't have to buy it if you don't like it.  The one that I got had just come in so it wasn't online yet.  I let them take my cars for trade in as well.  They will buy your car even if you don't buy a car from them also.  The car I got had a Blue Book value $2,000 more than what I paid for it, so I felt I got a fair deal.

I got a chuckle out of the 2-seater thing.
That's pretty cool that CarMax will buy your used cars even if you're not buying anything from them. Sounds like you got a good deal on your trade-ins too.

Unfortunately, he has ALWAYS been like that.  Even as kids....we all piled in, or most of the time he had some kind of truck so before it was illegal we rode in the back.  WHATEVER!  I would have loved to have kept what he gave me though.....5 years to early though.
