Title: The 20-somethings Club
Post by iris3732 on Dec 2nd, 2006, 2:33pm
Somebody said we should start one...so here it is....

I'm 24...right at the place where you don't really know what to do with your life; you are still trying to figure it out...at least that's my situation.

Oh and the men out there are never ready to settle; they just want to have fun. Which is cool for a time and then gets annoying.

Woo 20-somethings!

Depends on what your idea of settling is. I'm not going to get married and have kids at my age, at least let me get a career going first. I do like long-term relationships though. I'd much rather wake up to someone and snuggle with her rather than thinking who the hell are YOU!?

Oh, yeah, I'm far from marriage as well.

I guess I am just frustrated by my current situation...I don't think the dude I've been hanging out with is interested in labels...or will be anytime soon..

totally agree about the who the hell are you thing, too.

Gah, he's not worth it then. If he's not gonna give you what you want, no use in chasing him.

However, I usually completely ignore that advice when I'm in such a situation..... ::)

I feel so included.  I'll be 23 at the end of the month.

I'm a girl with no desire whatsoever to 'settle down'.  I love being the age where I am old enough to do what I want to do and young enough that I don't have to be in a relationship where I have to compromise with anyone about what I want.  Sorta know what I'm doing with my life but I don't have any baggage to keep me from it.  :D

Hello, my name is Lauren, I'm 21 years old...My birthday is June 15th, 1985. I like candelight dinners and long walks on the beach....

LOL.

I recently graduated from the Graphic Design program at my local college on my birthday, been through some ups and downs with finding employment since then, have thought about going back to school for University. I'm at a point in my life where I am actually a bit happy to be at home and just cook and clean... not really interested in working, but I know I need to.

Wooo. Go Geminis. June 5th '85 here.  8)

I'm an aspiring actor. Nothing gives me a thrill like being on stage does. I take any part I can get. I think I just need to bite the bullet and study acting at a university however, the parts are few and far between.. I'll be taking singing lessons in the new year as well, I need to refine my singing voice as well.

I'll second that Kristyn. I've met some kick-ass people here. Sky and I are still friends, 5 years later.  ;D

Woot, so many twenty-somethings!! I'm 24 (4th Feb 1982) and doing a Post-grad degree in Computer Animation at the moment... 2 months in and wondering what on earth possessed me, it's much harder work than I expected. :P

What's with all the Geminis, eh?? Are there no decent eccentric Aquariuses out there except me??  :hat:

Never met any of you sadly as you're all on the wrong continent, but what the hey, it's been fun anyway. ;D I've been vaguely hanging around this board since 2001 - it's taken me through college, hospitals, Uni, graduation, a full-time job for a year, and back to Uni again. Crazy.  :eyeroll:

You'll get one!  It took me over a year after I graduated from college to get a job...and I'm still there.  I hate it, and it's not what  i really wanted to do with my degree...but it's a job.  The job market down here is horrible, and since I graduated the semester that the 9/11 attacks happened, I had an even rougher time finding a job.

My high school celebrated it's 50th Anniversary when I graduated.
They had a whole slew of reunions from the first year of graduates from 1953 to Recent ones that graduated in 2003(that was my year).

I didn't go but my mom did. Now since I've been out of high school for 4 years, I feel old.

I'm 23.

When I was 15ish/16ish, I remember listening to "Girl right next to me"...you know the line that goes "in all my dreams, I'm 23..." and thinking, "wow, I'm going to be 23 someday."

Well, on Oct 21, I woke up and I was indeed 23. And in "all my dreams," I'm about 21, back in college, learning exciting things (or doing something juvenille, stupid, and fun involving squirt guns and alcohol), and not getting up to go to a job that I don't like but am lucky to have because I majored in English and German.

eesh.

You know, we're gonna have to start IDing the posters in here.   :D

In high school I was "the smart girl".  My group of friends are that group who pretty much got along with everyone.  I was in band for 2 years until the teacher angered me and I wrote him a letter I probably should have been suspended for and quit... It was cool though, gave me more time for my science classes.  :D

And my 5 year reunion is coming up.  I'm totally against it, but my best friend will probably force me into going.

Hey guys! I'm 23, so can I join the fun in the 20-somethings club?

Anyway I know how you feel about being in that in-between time. I graduate college in May and that just sorta floors me. College has always been my security blanket and knowing it will be gone in 6 months is just crazy. It's also a time where friends are going to be leaving and that kills me. My friends are my life, they keep me alive, literally and just knowing we all have to part soon ... uh I don't even want to get into it. But without sounding like a wise old owl ... we only have the present, I'm living it to its fullest, I don't want to be 90 years old rocking my grandkids to sleep telling them stories of what grandma wishes she would have done ... I'm going to be telling them about all the things grandma DID do.

aw no you didn't!

has anyone else noticed how weird guys are getting now that we're in our twenties? i have or had these amazing three awesome guy friends and i'm pretty much down to one now. (i have more guy friends it's just that these three plus me made this awesome little tight-knit group) the one guy forever will always be that person i can call at 4am and he'll never get mad. the other two just over this summer totally got weird. the one that truly boths me the most, him and i were so so close and now i don't think he'd bat an eye if i died. we haven't talked since august and i sent him a message in november on facebook and he hasn't responded to it. i just don't get it. and i'm having the hardest time just letting his friendship die ... i let to many other friendships die in my past (some of which i regret) and i know he's going to pull his head outta his ass someday and wake up. so that's why i hold on hope but i'm just being stupid i guess.

okay that was a rambling bummed out post haha sorry i just had to vent.

Please, 20-somethings and others, I need to vent about men. It's gonna be long but I gotta get it off my chest.

Let me tell you this bullshit I just experienced.

3 weeks ago, I met a dude at a bar; we'll call him Steve. I was with my friend Beth and he was with his friend Tom. Beth and Tom start talking and Steve and I were talking the whole night.

He's 25, I'm 24; thought it was a good match. He was really sweet, called me a couple of days later and we planned a date. After THAT date he called me a few days later and we went out to lunch.

I invited him to a party I was having a few days later at my apt. Things are going great right? Well, except for the fact that he had never tried to kiss me, which I though was odd especially since we'd been hanging out a lot. But, as stupid as this sounds, I thought he was waiting for the right time or something.

Anyway, after he came to my apt I don't hear from him for a week. I'm like, whatever, he's not into me. So I delete him from my cell and stuff. Tonight he calls and says, "Hey, a bunch of us are downtown; why don't you come meet us?" I said sure. He says to call him when I get down there.

Five minutes later his friend Tom calls me and says, "I wanted to personally apologize to you because I won't be able to come out tonight." I was like "whaaat...?" I said "uh, why are you calling me? Is Steve trying to set us up or something?" And Tom says, "No, no...uh, what are you doing tomorrow night? want me to give you a call?"

So I'm REALLY confused at this point. I mumbled something about "sure..yeah." Then I left to go downtown.

I call Steve and he ignores my calls. Finally he answers and says "Did you talk to Tom?" I told him I did and that he wasn't coming. Steve says, "Oh well then I don't know what to tell you. I'm going to a strip club with my ex and we're going to see lots of naked ladies and have fun."

what the HELL? I felt like someone punched me in the face. This came out of left field. Then he hangs up. I try calling him back to find out about the Tom business; he ignores my calls. Finally he answers and says, "This is Steve, I don't like you but Tom does so I told him to call you."

what the fuck. I didn't even TALK to Tom the first night I met Steve. Steve and I went out twice.

I try calling Steve one more time and his ex-girlfriend answers. She basically told me that Steve is one confused boy and changes his mind about things often. That's fine but don't fucking throw me to your friend.

So I just left a voicemail for Tom basically saying I don't know how there was a mixup; I'm sorry but I'm not interested; good luck with life.

I feel like a fool. Should I have seen this coming? I thought stuff like this stopped after grade school.

Yeah, it's never happened to me before either...I was totally thrown for a loop.

And definitely there are other fish in the sea...hopefully I'll find someone normal....apparently now when I give my phone number out I should to follow it with a disclaimer: This number is intended for you and only you. It is not to be passed around without previously gaining permission from owner.

And who rubs it in my face? That was sooo sleazy.

What gets me is when I met him he said, "Well, I go to church. I read the Bible. I'm a good person."  I never knew why he felt the need to tell me that.

Ok. I'm over it. Thanks for letting me vent everyone :)

For some reason, the twenty-somethings boys are just one big mess.  Thankfully I'm no longer in the dating world, but my husband's friends all seem to have a few screws loose.  And the guys I was friends with all through high school & college...yeah...they all flaked out and disappeared too.  *scratches head*  I just don't get it.

For those of you twenty-something guys that are on here....do us girls do something that makes this happen?  Or are you all really just a little off?

Title: Re: The 20-somethings Club

Title: Re: The 20-somethings Club

not that i want to get into a battle of the sexes on here ...

but it's not bad to make a blanket statement like that. guy's classify girls in all kinds of catagories and ways just based on what they THINK we want or are talking about. this theory has been told to me and proven to me by my close guy friends. guys close off a lot and won't speak up so they just go with their assumption of us. so if that's okay then what we're asking is okay too. plus it's just a generalization of a statement of a group, it's not just pinpointing one person.

(if that came off bitchy i didn't mean too haha i'm just standing up for our questions)

Don't take any of this personally, I'm not attacking you. I've always loved a good debate and I can get rather passionate. I'm not arguing from a position of anger but from one of logic and reason.

Perhaps men you have known do classify women based on erroneous information. However, if by your own admission such classifications are incorrect, how can you use them to justify your own classifications of men?

Furthermore, I don't understand how you can say that a generalization of a group isn't a bad thing because it's not pinpointing one person. That's precisely why it is bad. It doesn't speak ill of one person, it speaks ill of many, and unjustly. To draw a parallel, I could say that a guy I knew in high school who happened to be black was a jerk, or I could say that every black guy is a jerk. I'm obviously not accusing you of holding such an opinion, I'm just trying to put some perspective on this.

Anyway, if someone is a jerk to you, it's because of who they are, not what they are. Nurture over nature and all that I suppose, in a sense. The statement "all men/women are jerks" is something that really should die in high school. People are comprised of more than just genitals.

I think this sort of devolved into a rant. Ah well. Time for bed.

Title: Re: The 20-somethings Club
Post by GlitteringGoo on Jan 9th, 2007, 4:09pm
The generalization is of this group of men we are talking about ... the assholes in other words, not ALL men. I can see how it could be taken outta context as one assumption of a group but that's not what I meant and I knew (for the most part) everyone in this thread knew that.

oh i know the feeling! when my friends and i go out we always have a "wacko/weirdo" escape route. it happened last week as a matter of fact. thankfully the place we were at had two floors so we disappeared upstairs for awhile and when we came back down he was leaving. my big thing is when you're so obviously not into a guy at the bar/club and they just won't give up. that's a huge turn off!

Title: Re: The 20-somethings Club
Post by rzezniksangel on Jan 9th, 2007, 8:25pm
Christian, I hope you don't think we were attacking you!  We're just baffled at the behavior of said "boys", and are trying to figure out why that happens so often in our age group...that's all.

Ugh, and I don't miss having to avoid the whacko/wierdo guys.  That was probably the worst part of bar hopping with the girls.  One of my friends in college and I bought matching silver rings and used to tell the guys that bothered us that we were "together" to get them to leave us alone.  The only problem with that was that some of them liked that idea....and that was when it paid off to be-friend the bouncers!  ;D

Title: Re: The 20-somethings Club

Oh, right. Ahem. My face is red. Anyway.

I think it has to do with our generation and the culture which we've been exposed to. A lot of guys seem to have it in their head that Friends is an example of pristine dating exercises.  ::)

I can't really comment on bars, seeing as how I've never been to one. I can only imagine the kind of people.  :kookoo: (Lord I love that guy)

Come to think of it, I can't really comment on anything to do with dating seeing as how I rarely ever go on dates. Painfully shy and all that.

i always wear a diamond band on my left hand. i know that's my wedding ring finger but i just like the band on that hand better. anyway when i'm out if a guy won't let up i turn it around to the non-diamond part and flash my hand in their face and they are like "oh sorry." my girls and i will dance with each other a lot too if creeps are out so it gives the illusion we may be together haha. my one guy friend can't go out with us anymore do to DUI charges (stupid he was for getting that) but when he could go out he was sorta my safety. we often just appeared to be together so no girls would bother him and no guys would bother me. hahaha aahhh the tricks of the trade haha.

my 20 year old love life vent

to make the longest story (that i actually told last night to a friend) extremely short....me and my current boyfriend have been dating for 8 months now after a 3 year "relationship" type esque situation...

during anytime before that we had been seeing eachother...but he was also seeing others too....

well back in march we were kinda official, but it was an open relationship (til may when we become exclusive) b/c i was away at school....

i was understood that during these 2 months we were allowed to see others, but we both didn't however.....or so i thought

as i'm saying this last night isee the smirk on his face...and say "right...." and he's like maybe...and so i say who

he tells me....and i had suspected it then but he would tell me no...this girl jamie at his school...who apparently helped him move out....

now i understand he's alloewd to see people....but i was underthe impression that an open reltionship you would tell the other and vice versa

and...after a difficult 2 1/2 years already he had told me in march that he did love me (and i know he as serious...you just might not understand and thats ok)....it just really hurt me b/c yes he's done all this stuff before but not when he's had all these strong feelings for me

so how can you do that to someone you love....and then tell me about it 8 months later, and not expect me to get pissed off.

nuigharfp@!!!!!

fucking boys....

Aw, PG, I'm sorry that happened. Seems like I have been hearing nothing but bad boy stories lately :(

I also thought an open relationship meant each person was aware of who the other was dating....sucks that you spent essentially 3 years of your time with this guy when there are others out there.

after a semi-intoxicated night my friends and i end up at this pizza place we always end the night with when we go out. and my one good guy friend starts giving off advice when my friend amanda picks his brain about why guys do this and why guys do that. well he comes off with this ... "guys are only friends with girls for one of two reason. 1. to get something from them that is not sexual or 2. to eventually bang them." so after a good laugh i'm like "oh really? then what's the reason behind our friendship?" and amanda's like "yeah why are you friends with heather?" (cuz honestly i'd never be with him he's just a friend) and my guy friend goes "well she's honest, a good person and offers good intellectual conversation" and i'm like "oh please! good backpeddling." haha i know he was saying it to be an ass and only semi-serious but with the way guys are anymore it does sorta make sense doesn't it? haha oh boy ...

Sometimes I think the reason that some women want men who are "bad" per say, is for the thrill of the adventure...

...that's how I feel...I love the thrill of feeling 'bad' sometimes...

But again, that's just me...

WOW!!!!

Ok well, I am 23 years old. Born 9-11-83( yea people tend to give me a look)

Heritage: Father's side is Irish and Creek Indian.
Mother's side is German I think.

I love midievil stuff. I am not gothic, I just love the history. My whole house has swords and Wizards and stuff everywhere along with some christian artifacts.

I love the outdoors, and I have no fear of getting hurt (physically that is).

I am not in any hurry to get married because I was engaged to a totally @$$hole so I am living life.
Got 2 older brothers and a sister,I play in a southern rock band with them. Been playing since I was 6 years old. I was raised in a penichostal Church. ( spelling) Not the ones that handle snakes but the ones that get loud and shout and shake. It's funny because my best friend is Catholic and she is totally afraid of my religion, and I am afraid of hers.(they deal with demonic things)I Love music. I played music in chruch. I love comedy. I worked as a Fire/EMS dispatcher (911) and sometimes you need to take something bad and find something that is funny to keep your sanity.
But now I work as an ACO- Officer with the Sheriff' department.
See? I like doing things were I could get hurt.
I love 80s hair bands and country too so. I am abit southern. Kinda like Jeff Foxworthy.
I'm a bubblehead. I do somethings that can't be explained. My boss is polish, his last name is Rzenik too but its' spelled with a "w" in there somewhere and he swears that polish people are smarter than me. lol.

Welcome Ashley! I'm 25 and I used to live in a town like yours, so I can relate a bit! And yeah the social life can be pretty dead...are there any clubs or things you can join, like a drama club or a book reading club, something to help you get to know more people? And I would definitely recommend getting your driving license, I just got mine and it's changed my life - in the words of BraveHeart, "FREEEDOOOOM!!" Caring for someone is a very hard job, so I admire you for that! Have you got any Goo shows to look forward to this summer?

Welcome Ashley. I hope you enjoy hanging out here. I know where Yale is. I'm from Michigan too. I grew up in Grand Rapids but now live in Livonia. I don't have much experience with super small towns but I can imagine what that's like. I like Saz's idea of joining a club to meet people. I think that's the only way to survive in a small town like that....you gotta have friends.

Ohhhh I need to visit the board more often. I forgot about this thread.

Uh..yeah, I'll be 26 in August. It's true what they say. Everything is downhill after 21.

Ok, not really but sometimes I'd like to slow the aging process down.

I heard that turning 29 is more stressful than turning 30 because you spend 29 going "oh my god. I'm going to be 30 next year!"....but by the time it comes around you are cool with it.

I think I am going to have a huge blowout bash when I turn 30. woooooo!

I'm already doing the "holy crap I'm gonna be 30 next year" bit.  It's bad.....

Although, I think I'll wind up being okay with it....at 29 I've been married for almost 2 years, just purchased my first piece of property, and will be a parent....I'm just bitter that my 20's are going to be over in 11 short months.  *sigh*

Thank you.  :) That is so refreshing to hear after my dad says, "I have some advice. Just don't get old."

Thanks, Dad. You're awesome.  ::)

Title: new here
Post by FeelTheSilence on Oct 13th, 2008, 7:48am
hey.
i'm new on here. my name's ashley. i'm 28. single. unemployed. live at home with mom and 2 sister's. one is mentally impaired. i take care of her when she's home from the adult learning center. i originally have 3 sister's and 1 brother. i've always wanted to settle down. have kids. the whole 9 yards. but, it never happened. i'm at that point, that i do want them. but, too old to care. so, my theory is, if it happens, it happens. if it don't, oh well. it's life. you know? lol. doesn't help i don't have a job either. or the fact that i don't have a license to drive either. failed driver's ed. in school. i was like 1 percent from passing the 1st 2 times, but they don't grade on curves. so, that sucked. and the 3rd, i got kicked out for failing 3 classes in school. by then, i graduated. and never went to apply for it. don't have the money for it. and finding a job in this small town sucks. so, basically for now, my life is screwed. unless, mr.right shows up at my door and changes everything. which, don't count on happening anytime soon. so, i'm stuck. ahhh... life in a nutshell. can't beat that. lol.

This thread hasn't been posted in for a whole year, which makes me kinda sad. Any new members we need to initiate? Did we lose anyone to the 30-somethings? How about any Important Life Updates?

...I think I'm just mildly disappointed that the off-topic forum is dead, don't mind me. :P

I'm a part of this thread now. Right now I have no idea what I want to do after school. I feel like my major is not the right choice for me but I don't want to change it now.

Haha. Easter Dragon.

On a side note I think part of the reason why this thread is dead is because a lot of off topic things are just posted in the Name Change thread (Which I don't have a problem with! Haha).

I am not in the twenty something club, but since I did start the age club trend.. I can break the rules :P

What is your major?

Title: Re: The 20-somethings Club

Psychology with a minor in Gender and Sexuality Studies

I love psych, but I'm not doing as well as I would like to. I'm not very good at memorizing lots of information and taking multiple choice style exams. It is much easier for me to learn to about theories and come up with my own argument which is what the classes for my minor focus a lot more on. There is a lot of overlap between GSS and psych so I'm pretty confident that I'll be able to do something with my career that combines both.

I got engaged a few months ago! :)

I am just up to being poor while saving up for the wedding next year :)

Nicole, I was where you are a few years ago. (I will be 28 in August.) But right after college, I felt so lost. I went to grad school and luckily found classes and an internship that lead me to my job today. Trust me when I say it will work out for you.

Hi all! I'm Tiffany. I will be turning 27 on the 31st...I am slowly edging toward 30.... I am ok with where I am at in life. My career is getting off the ground for the most part. I am living at home with the parents until my career is stable though. Once I move out, I am not moving back. That has been my goal since day one. So, I want to be ready when I move. No man in my life, I have decided all 20 something year old guys are just not ready for a girl like me.  :angel3:  :hahaha:
