Title: Christmas!
Post by Hysteria on Oct 29th, 2006, 6:51am
What are you doing for Xmas this year? Going away? Staying at home with family? And what's on your wish list?

Mine consists of money towards a car, clothes and CD's.
Btw, does anyone still get a stocking... cause i'm nearly 18 an my parents think that i'm getting too old to have one, but I reckon you're never really too old, or am I? I dunno. :P

Staying at home with family :)

And I'm nearly 18 too but my mum still gives my 22year old brother a stocking so I've got at least another 4 or 5 years of stockings ;D hehe

And I'm hoping for a semi-acoustic guitar, like the one John uses when they play SWY...that'd be so awesome :) :) :)let's hope father christmas thinks i've been a good boy this year...

;DI'm 21 and I still get a few items in my stocking, I hang it up every year. I'm a big Christmas geek. I love everything about the season.

I usually stay home with the family, Christmas Eve, my family on my mom's side, not including my grandparents, we attend an evening mass then go to my aunt's house after for goodies and the traditional movie. On Christmas morning we head to my grandparent's house, on my mom's side and get together to unwrap gifts and the usual family get together.

I really want a Nindendo DS, a new cell phone and some cashola. LOL. That's basically it.

Oh Christmas... I have a really small and messed up extended family so I actually have no idea what's going ot happen this year.  I assume Christmas Eve is at my house, but no idea about Christmas dinner.

I am currently a dirt poor grad student who just started a part time job and have been going without a whole lot for the last 5 months, so my list of stuff I need and want is crazy.  Stuff I want includes a new digital camera and some cds.  I NEED some clothes and shoes.  Thank goodness my birthday is 5 days after Christmas, because I have a big list this year.  :D

And me and my sisters still get stockings.  My older sister (25) got a stocking last year even though she was moved out and engaged.  I hope stockings continue.  That's where the money is!  :D

Christmas stockings are very useful for holding small gifts like gift cards and such.
...not sure whether the "Nightmare Before Christmas" stocking will fit into the decorating scheme, but it sure is cute.

Oh, yeah, and I have to work on Christmas...and Christmas Eve...and Christmas "Eve-eeeve". This is gonna suck.

Ew... what kind of lab do you work in that's open on Christmas?  Or is it a hospital?  I can hook you up with a toxicology job in WNY that's closed on major holidays.   :D

When in high school I worked as a florist on Christmas Eve one year from like noon to six.  It made me sad.  :-/

Title: Re: Christmas!
Post by the green o on Oct 30th, 2006, 9:02pm
Yup, it's a lab in a hospital. It's a dirty job, but someone's gotta do it.
It just stinks that the boss thinks it's better to schedule you for the "whole shebang" so that you get the other major holidays off. I'd rather do it like we used to. Maybe I would've had to work Christmas Eve, but gotten Christmas day off. Then had to work New Year's day or something like that. But noo...people decided it's better to totally trash a major holiday. I guess it's a matter of opinion, but I really don't look forward to working those three evenings in a row this year. Not like I have any choice in the matter.
If I lived anywhere near you, I would definately take you up on the toxicology job, Nicole. Definately!

WHY AM I FINDING OUT VIA MESSAGEBOARD THAT MY MOTHER IS WORKING ON CHRISTMAS? :(

CAPSLOCK OF RAGE!

Moving on... :P

Show of hand for people that definitely aren't going to be able to afford buying people gifts this year?

CAPSLOCK OF RAGE!
You sound like Pierre Bernard.

Methinks it's marked on the calendar of doom.
Of course, you didn't check the calendar of doom, now didja?

It's not so bad. Santa will arrive as always and put lame presents under the tree. And I don't have to go in to work until the "eve-eve".  ;)

You can always come to work with me and be my personal dj.
That would be cool, and totally rock. And it would drive my co-worker as crazy as he is going to drive me crazy.

We are taking the kids to Disney World for Christmas this year. My parents and brother's family are going as well. We decided to do Disney in lieu of gifts this year. Of course Santa will visit the kids and fill their stockings ;) but no major gifts this year from us or my parents.

My parents filled my stocking every year until I got married. I was 24.

green O.....my husband works in a hospital so I understand all about working nights, every other weekend and holiday weekends. My husband has to work Thanksgiving this year. I feel your pain.

Title: Re: Christmas!

Ugh... money for presents... I like giving gifts, but I find Christmas less enjoyable when you're spending the last $300 to your name on Christmas presents instead of gas to get to school...

I just started a job though, so hopefully I'll be buying gifts and gas.  Now all I've got to do is figure out how to make days about 5 hours longer.

People should never stop having their stocking stuffed(God, that sounds like a sexual euphamism). Christmas turns me into a 10 year-old.

However, I usually run into about 2/3's of my 50 or so cousins. That's not fun, especially when they're all younger than me.  :P

Ever since the beginning of November, this radio station has been playing non-stop, around the clock Christmas music. (Shannon it's 100.3)

The geek that I am, I listened to it in the shower today. I felt so jolly.

Purple O that's my dream gift as well. Although I just don't seem to think it will ever become a reality.

White O ... I can't stand when 100.3 does that so early. It drives me nuts. I can't listen to Christmas music until right before Christmas.

Yes, I find it too early too.
Me personally, I wish they would start playing it after you guys celebrate your Thanksgiving.

Then it wouldn't be so bad you know?

Apparently, it's what everyone has requested...:-/

It boggles my mind that it's a fan request because most people I talk to don't want to hear Christmas music until after Thanksgiving ... like you said. One holiday at a time....geez.

Or they could start with the Christmas song here and there, just not like dive right into the 24/7 Christmas tunes.

Other than that, Tara and I are planning to do some shopping while in London...ON WEDNESDAY.

Might pick up a few gifts...

i'll be at home for Christmas like always. we used to have Christmas at my MomMom's house but since she died almost 9 years ago now, we have it at my house. then during the week we will have family and friends visit. it's always a busy yet fun time.

and no! no one is ever too old for a stocking! i still get one and a ton of gifts too, some toys even. not that i play with toys still at 23 yrs old but i collect barbie's and other 'toys' like that so yeah. lol there's too much of life where we have to be mature, act our age and be grown-up, Christmas shouldn't be one of them.

So a Best Buy Christmas ad came on tv today, and it was the first one I've seen this year. My roommate and I saw it and we both just started gagging... it's way too soon for this!!

I don't even want to think about Christmas this year.  This is my first holiday season without my grandma, and it's going to be very hard to get through.

We were in Walmart last night, and they have this big sign near the door that reads:

Yep, I listen to it all the way out here; mostly because I see the ads on TV here
since we get the Detroit feeds of the American networks.
Thanks for the link; I'll check out 89X tonight :)
We used to have a station here with the X branding, but it sadly made way for our KISS station

Awww! :(.

Since I live right across the boarder from Detroit, I get a lot of American Radio Stations, TV stations, whatnot, so I used to listen to a station called 93.1 DRQ, but it got changed to 93.1 DUG FM, and apparently, they play everything, I have yet to hear a GGD song on that station, DRQ played songs every once in a while.

89X is the an amazing radio station, it's Canadian and American. So I don't have to call long distance if I want to call into the station to try to win tickets or anything!

Only in December should Christmas songs be sung. And December 1-10 is pushing it.

It seems our culture isn't interested so much in the actual holiday but the weeks and sometimes months leading up to it. Our entire society needs a smack.

Yes, we all are! I'm so excited I'm ready to leave now. I haven't been to Disney since I was 10...before Epcot. I can't wait to see all the changes. I'm hoping the weather cooperates and it's at least in the 60s....that would be perfect. It'll be nice to escape the biting cold for a week. It's hard to believe how fast the time has flown since we booked the trip.

Amusement parks in the winter are fun.  All of the locals in Florida think it's too cold to go out.  And when I went (November) it wasn't a big tourism time, so there were virtually no lines.  Hopefully it'll be the same for you!
