Title: Cute Is What We Aim For
Post by Shannon on Jun 22nd, 2006, 8:46am
Have any of you Buffalonians heard of this band? They keep popping up in my alerts related to the Goos. Here's an article I received today from WGRZ Channel 2 news.

Move Over Goo Goo Dolls, Cute Is Here!

Cute Is What We Aim For is a new power pop, power punk band. The four members are from the Buffalo area. The new CD is already a big seller.

Shaant Hacikyan, 19, Fred Cimato, 17, Jeff Czum, 19 and Tom Falcone, 18 are the band members.

Their parents are super proud of their success.

"He's a good kid and I trust him," said Angela Falcone about her son Tom who is the drummer for the band.

It turns out the boys are living a dream and if record sales are an indication of future success, plan on hearing the name Cute Is What We Aim For much more.

Saying that Cute is What We Aim For is the next band to follow in the Goos' footsteps is pretty much an insult.  Their parents gave them money to build their band and they were immediately signed to a major "indy" label that supports bands like Fallout Boy.  The hype will be gone shortly.  Just be patient.

Only similarities are both bands having awful names and they're from the same general region (I don't know where CIWWAF is actually from, but I'm pretty sure it's not from the city of Buffalo)

That sounds like a HUGE insult to the Goos then. That's one of the things I love most about the Goos is that they've had to work hard for everything they've gotten. I can totally respect and admire that. It's hard to respect a band that's basically been spoon fed their opportunities.

Thanks for answering NMF. I was wondering about this band since they were in several of my alerts and I'd never heard of them.

I just saw this band open for Jack's Mannequin in Orlando last month and they were alright..Actually my friend is a drummer for this band named Veara..and she's actually really good friends with the drummer for CIWWAF..they just know each other cuz they're both under the same sponsor..but yeah..the band was alright..I wasn't too impressed..but we hung out with them for a lil' while after the show..and the drummer..I think his name is Tom (?)..he was really cool..a really nice guy...but like I said..idk if I enjoy the band too much... :-/..they weren't terrible..just nothing really all that different from a buncha other bands out there..

hearing another band say they are going to do better than ggd is just stupid. the ggd are the best and had to work to where they are at now, so it means something more. ggd will and do, get more respect because they had to work their way up.

What kind of a name is 'Cute Is What We Aim For'??

It just sounds like another Death Cab for Cutie to me...

Oh, yeah, total insult to the goos, who worked hard for everything they have gained over the past 20 years. No help from their parents at all.

It just irks me sometimes.

LOL, of course they do, Shannon.  You have to understand ... you cannot write an article that relates to music in and around Buffalo without mentioning the Goos at some point!  That's Buffalo Journalism Rule #18.  ;)
