It's not every day a professional rock band shows up at your high school. But, it's the perfect way to grab a teens attention for a serious issue. "Kids are charged about certain things across the board. One is loud music and flashing lights."

Robbie Takac of the Goo Goo Dolls brought Agent Me to City Honors High School. It's part of the "Music is Art" program, which is helping kids cope with mental health issues. The message is - you have to talk to somebody don't keep it all inside." Takac says.

The bands tell a personal story, and mental health organizations talk about how to get help. "They put it in between songs, which was a really good idea because it catches your attention and you listen." says one student.
Tod Kniazuk from MIA says Music can very much open ideas to kids. If you have some middle age guy in a suit talking about mental health awareness the kids may not pay attention."

An Erie County Mental Health official says this technique works. Kids are willing to reach out - as long as they know where to turn. "Stigma is key word this is generation doesn't buy." Thomas McNulty says, "They are very candid and open. They talk about eating disorders, cutting and suicide. They're more open. And that's our window to make sure get inside and have tools to deal with it."

The Tell-It program follows up after the concert. It gives kids more information on outlets for help.

That's really admirable and a spiffingly good idea, too. I know tons of kids who'd never pay attention to that middle aged guy in a suit.

But seriously; Tod Kniazuk. Does Robby pick his acquaintances based on their names or what? *giggle*
