Title: The Goo Goo Dolls "Dizzy Up" Sacred Hear Post by Shannon on Mar 28th, 2007, 10:02pm The Goo Goo Dolls "Dizzy Up" Sacred Heart By: JP Porretta Issue date: 3/29/07 Section: Entertainment It was at 9 o'clock sharp when the lights went off, and the 4,000 people who sold out Sacred Heart's Pitt Center screamed in anticipation for the band of the evening, The Goo Goo Dolls. The lights started to pulse faster and faster, as Johnny Reznick and company took the stage, busting into their song "Dizzy." The Goo continued on with their 18-song set with their 1998 hit, "Slide," which got every person in the gym singing along louder than Reznick himself. Other highlights from the set included their hits "Black Balloon," "Stay With You," "Give a Little Bit," "Iris," "Better Days," and "Name"- the song that earned them mainstream success all the way back in 1994. After playing their latest single, "Let Love In," the band left the stage, while the crowd stood anxious waiting for an encore. Reznick then came back on stage to play the powerful acoustic driven song, "Acoustic #3." The rest of the band then joined him back on stage, as they played their final song, "Give a Little Bit." The Goo Goo Dolls played an hour and a half of the best live set I have seen in a while. They really knew how to please the crowd, continuously allowing them to participate with the vocals to favorites like "Iris" and "Give a Little Bit." Musically, they were flawless, playing not a single note off key. The Goo weren't the only good part of the night, though. The evening openers were piano rock group Augustana, a strong pick for many college students. Augustana released their debut album, "All the Stars and Boulevards" just last year, and have seen a large amount of success thanks to their first single, "Boston." I'm sorry FUSA, but it looks like Sacred Heart won this year's battle for best school concert. The Goo Goo Doll concert Friday night was hands down a much bigger success than January's O.A.R concert. That's not even mentioning the fact that Sacred Heart has a second concert, hard rockers Hinder, coming up in the next few weeks. Although FUSA decided on having only one concert this year I don't think that was the biggest problem with students. The main concern this year was the band that they chose. Maybe not everyone here at Fairfield are die-hard Goo Goo Doll fans and have all eight of their records, but I guarantee you there isn't one student here who hasn't heard one of their songs. Not only are they one of the more popular bands out now, they were also one of the more popular band nine years ago. Everyone has heard of the Goo Goo Dolls. I doubt you can say the same about O.A.R. Another plus to Sacred Heart's concert was the addition of a popular opening band to the bill. Augustana is a somewhat popular band on their own, and I'm sure the inclusion of them won quite a few people over in shelling out money for the show. Speaking of money, tickets for Friday night's show were only $15, ten bucks cheaper than Fairfield's O.A.R show. FUSA, us college kids are already blowing all of our money on fake IDs and alcohol. How do you expect us to have money left over to purchase a $25-$35 ticket for a damn concert?! Enough complaining, let's get back to the concert. All in all it was a well-organized show, with an impressive light show, a surprisingly large crowd and great sound. Those who walked into the Pitt Center already a Goo Goo Dolls fan left that concert pleased, while the rest found themselves a new favorite band to obsess over. Maybe, if we're lucky, we can get them to perform at Alumni Hall next year. http://media.www.fairfieldmirror.com/media/storage/paper148/news/2007/03/29/Entertainment/The-Goo.Goo.Dolls.dizzy.Up.Sacred.Heart-2809508.shtml |

Oh, yes, and there was at least one really off-key note during Broadway. I have a witness. ("Acoustic #3" is acoustic? Who knew?) FUSA=Fairfield University Student Association. I just love when they don't tell you what the letters stand for. :P |

Title: Re: The Goo Goo Dolls "Dizzy Up" Sacred Post by Nicole on Mar 29th, 2007, 9:18am The random pictures of a bear, a squirrel and a t-rex riding a pack mule named Sanchez, are a perfect touch. :D I was wondering what FUSA stood for "They really knew how to please the crowd, continuously allowing them to participate with the vocals to favorites like 'Iris' and 'Give a Little Bit.'" That did not please me. I wish John would actually sing the chorus of Iris. |

Title: Re: The Goo Goo Dolls "Dizzy Up" Sacred Post by DWG on Mar 29th, 2007, 11:29am We also sang "Smash" Robby-style. Literally. Much to the chagrin of the people in our vicinity. Tough darts. I am lost on the meaning of the animals in the thread, but that's okay; it makes our forum uniquely...weird and interesting. Everyone else just says "thanks for posting". Perhaps the animals represent members of the crowd that attended the show. That one beast riding atop the other (much |

I was there, and I didn't hear him sing "Hey". Besides, aren't both John and Robby supposed to sing "Hey" together? I would remember if I heard that. Saying the word "hey" causes me to answer back, "what?". Singing the song "Hey" causes me to eat the extra ticket. nuances. |

It involves making some very specific facial expressions. The way I sing it is more like singing "hey" when I'm supposed to sing "smash", or singing "crash" when I'm supposed to sing "hey". The old songs, so easily forgotten and tossed by the wayside... |
