Title: GGD recorded song for Spider-Man 3! Post by Shannon on Mar 23rd, 2007, 8:54am Downtown dish When "Spider-Man 3" -- starring Tobey Maguire, Kirsten Dunst and Topher Grace -- hits theaters May 4, listen carefully: There's a Louisville link. The Goo Goo Dolls recently recorded a song for inclusion in the film at Downtown Recording, 515 S. Fourth St. That same night, Downtown's Brian Haulter was in Lexington, recording an Apples in Stereo performance for their upcoming DVD release. The Dolls found Downtown after their engineer peeped the two-story studio across the street from the window of his room at the Seelbach Hilton. "They were here all night," said Nick Stevens, who co-owns Downtown with Mark Noderer. "(Johnny Rzeznik) loved the room, loved the equipment." http://www.courier-journal.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20070323/COLUMNISTS18/703230311 |

Title: Re: GGD recorded song for Spider-Man 3! Post by Shannon on Mar 23rd, 2007, 9:03am No kidding. My son loves Spidey but this just gives me extra incentive. And, I can hear this song being super edgy like I'm Awake Now or Lazy Eye. Spidey just isn't a ballad type movie. OOOhhhhh I'm so excited by this. I should mention that this hasn't been officially confirmed by the band or their management. So we don't really know for sure in what capacity the song will be used. I guess we wait and hope to be pleasantly surprised. |

I can't wait for Spidey 3 to come out, and if they DO have a song for it I CAN'T WAIT to hear it, ahhhhhh I'm excited...and Shannon, it may be a ballad, remember Chad Kroeger's 'Hero'?- That's pretty much a ballad for Spiderman. |

Title: Re: GGD recorded song for Spider-Man 3! Post by Shannon on Mar 26th, 2007, 1:04pm I read this on the AG update today and thought I'd share. From AG..... many of you wrote over the weekend asking about an article that came out regarding the band and spiderman 3. all we are able to confirm for you at this point is that yes, john has written a song for it ... placement, inclusion, all of that, you're going to have to wait on. we can tell you that we have an interview with the studio where the work was done, and Nick Stevens, co-owner of said studio had nothing but fantastic things to say about the band. we'll have more on this for you in weeks to come, as confirmations come in, so please ... be patient. our email in-box was weary with the letters asking. Just a side note...speaking of the AG update. Letters to AG were posted today and there was one posted from IrisGoo and it was simply beautiful and touching about the power of 1 song. Go check it out. It made me cry. I understood exactly what she was saying. |

Title: Re: GGD recorded song for Spider-Man 3! Post by nmf016 on Mar 26th, 2007, 9:39pm Gather 'round, kids. A story of the online Goo community history... There is a Goo mailinglist that used to be very active, but it has pretty much died out these days. In 2002, when the tracklisting for Gutterflower was released, someone, Mark Crooks, posted the song lyrics for Big Machine. There was a big flurry of excitement, until it was realized that the lyrics weren't real. The poster had just made up a song based on the title. As I remember it, the made up lyrics were pretty good and would have totally been believable as John's. Further reading: Mark Crooks vanished from the list for a while. Then, in 2004, someone posted that they had pictures of John changing after the LIB concert. Again, big flare up. I personally was quite amused, recognizing that Mr. Crooks had reappeared after 2 and a half years for another gag. I sent him an email praising his dedication to wreaking havoc by lying dormant for that long. Anyways, your fake lyrics made me think about that. He's just about due for another prank... :D |
||
Title: Re: GGD recorded song for Spider-Man 3! Post by Pondering My Fate on Mar 26th, 2007, 10:01pm Hahahaha, amazing. I gave up on the mailing list about as soon as I hopped on that bandwagon... returning one weekend to find 201 e-mails arguing about the moral ramifications of making a marijuana joke in the Ross the Intern skit did kinda warm my semi-twisted heart though. I must've missed Mark by a few months one way or the other. :( Bless you, crazy people. |
||
Title: Re: GGD recorded song for Spider-Man 3! Post by nmf016 on Mar 26th, 2007, 10:14pm Ooh... the marijuana... that was a long long discussion. I'm still on the list, mostly because I'm too lazy to unsubscribe. It's down to 2-3 messages a week these days... |
||
Title: Re: GGD recorded song for Spider-Man 3! Post by Pon on Mar 27th, 2007, 1:39am I thought mailing lists are whack. I remember getting countless emails everytime somebody replied to a message. I'd even got into a fight with one person and I just realized how whack it was to get emails of that, so I stopped. Message boards are the way to go. |

This cracked me up too. I don't even know what you look like Nicole, but I have a vision of you whispering and waving your hand to gather us around you to tell the tale... As for Shade's lyrics, I knew it was parody, but maybe we should consider getting ourselves a "sarcasm font" or something, just so people know when we're yanking their chain versus reality. And this here: http://i135.photobucket.com/albums/q136/Shade88135/image039.jpg reminds me of those Spidey action figures you find in the toy stores, made with a spandex-type fabric, and Spidey's legs are so "muscular"...you just have to touch them. ::) |

She always remembers for us and shares with us in a humorous way. :D As for the sarcasm font. That would be nice to be able to add. But since I can't add anything we have to use what we have. Whenever I do sarcasm or emphasis I use italics. |

Title: Re: GGD recorded song for Spider-Man 3! Post by nmf016 on Mar 27th, 2007, 12:11pm I tend to use regular font. Because nearly everything I say has sarcasm and if you don't pick up on it, there's nothing I can do. I relied on the mailinglist way back when because I had dial up and getting sites to load was a nightmare, so everything going to your mailbox was convenient. Also, waaaaaaaay back, you didn't have many options of messageboards and the WOG site and the mailinglist were your best bets. |
