Title: Going gaga for Goo Goo Dolls / Q&A with Robby Post by Shannon on Feb 22nd, 2007, 9:46am Going gaga for Goo Goo Dolls BY NIZ PROSKOCIL WORLD-HERALD STAFF WRITER The Goo Goo Dolls celebrated their 20th anniversary last year. The Goo Goo Dolls are, from left, Mike Malinin, Johnny Rzeznik and Robby Takac. They bring their show to the intimate Orpheum Theater on Saturday. To mark the occasion, the Buffalo, N.Y., rock trio released a new CD, "Let Love In." The disc, the band's eighth studio record, includes a version of Supertramp's "Give a Little Bit" and has sold more than 500,000 copies since its release in April 2006. Since the mid-1990s, the band has produced 12 top-10 hits, including No. 1 songs "Name," "Iris" and "Slide." The band is resurrecting those classics, as well as performing new material, on a nationwide tour, which stops Saturday at the Orpheum Theater. We caught up with bassist-vocalist Robby Takac for a quick Q and A to find out what he, guitarist-vocalist Johnny Rzeznik and drummer Mike Malinin have planned for fans in Omaha. Q. How is the tour going? A. The crowds are great. We seem to be getting a lot of younger fans out to the show on this run. Maybe it's Myspace, maybe it's just something in the water, but it seems as though the live performances are getting more exciting as the tour continues. * * * Q. What can fans expect at the show? A. Lots of big rock. No one leaves disappointed if we can do anything about it. * * * Q. The tour consists mainly of theater shows. How does the intimate venue affect the type of show you present? A. A smaller venue gives you the opportunity to play for a room full of Goo Goo Dolls fans versus having to play to crowds there to see many bands and save some of their energy for the other acts. * * * Q. What's on your plate for the rest of year? A. We're touring until October and then we begin a new disc for release in 2008. * * * Q. What else would you like to tell local fans about the show? A. Please help us out by bringing some canned goods to the show for donation to USA Harvest for the needy in your area (www.usaharvest.org). There's bins at the doors at the venues to drop the food in. No money changes hands, and you're helping people out right in your community. http://www.omaha.com/index.php?u_pg=1458&u_sid=2335492 **Hasn't this title been used several times before? :thinkin: This is the second or third time I've read about them starting the new record in the fall but the first time I've seen them wanting it to be released in 2008....let's hope! ** |
