Goo Goo Dolls Hit The Road, Build Hometown Studio

Twenty years since the release of their first album, the Goo Goo Dolls continue to rev on all cylinders. The band's latest tour in support of 10th album, "Let Love In," launched Dec. 5 and blankets the United States through March.

Frontman Johnny Rzeznik tells Billboard.com the trio will then head to the United Kingdom and Ireland, followed by a shed tour back in the States through the summer.

The Goos are also building a record studio in their hometown of Buffalo, N.Y. "We're never going to make a dime out of it, but the city has never had a proper recording studio and it's something we want to do," Rzeznik says. "It's completely a not-for-profit thing for friends and family and some local talent that we want to help out. If we were trying to go into the studio business, we'd be killed and disillusioned."

In December, the group earned the distinction as the biggest act in the history of Billboard's adult top 40 chart, with 12 top 10 hits, including the recent "Let Love In." Its first was "Name" in 1995, followed by the No. 1s "Iris" and "Slide" in 1998.

On the road, Rzeznik says he is all about sharing those well-known titles with fans. "I've seen bands who almost get resentful of their hits; they look at success with contempt. It's a very artsy thing to do. F*ck that," he says. "I say, be grateful that you have the hits, because most people would give their left nut to have even one. Play your ass off and prove yourself every night that you have the chance."

I figured there would be more comments on the upcoming tour. UK and Ireland followed by a summer shed tour!!!!!

I wonder who they'll tour with this summer?

They won't tour with anyone.  They will release another song from DUTG, become wildly popular again, and sell out the amphitheatres on their own.  The setlist will be so long there just isn't time for another act.  The IM will get its ass in gear and give away the first 4 rows.






I'm trying the positive route this year.

Anyways, if you're not part of my optimism, I'm going to have to ask you to not mock my positive thoughts.  We just can't have another 2006.

Didn't Robby Takac start up that there "Good Charamel" studio not too many years ago? Am I the only one who's really confused by this whole comment/idea/debacle? :P

Sssssh.  Don't ask questions.  A new Goo studio in Buffalo doesn't hurt anything, just let it happen.  I'm confused as hell, but I'm gonna let this one go...

That's the funniest thing I've ever heard!

You do realize that those of us who joined right when the IM opened will have to renew our membership just to see if this actually happens....*shakes head*

I wish I could be optimistic.  I had the 2006 from hell...this year just NEEDS to be better.

Damn, that's a really good point. Hmm...well a few more months to go, isn't there? Didn't it open round April time?? I can't remember now, I must have a screw loose somewhere...:P

Anyways thanks for the article Shannon, it's very cool that they'll be coming back to the UK later this year...now to save those pennies again in preparation!! I've got SO many more people who want to come along this time too, just out of sheer curiosity about why the hell I'd want to go see the same band perform 5 times in the same year...ah well, it's all ways of promoting the band I guess. ;)

I like the fact that they are building a studio and are keeping it non-profit for local upcoming bands, friends and family :D
